Trustees, Annual Report Introduction l am pleased to introduce readers to the annual report of Littleover Methodist Church. We are a vibrant Christ-centred church at the heart of our community and this report about the scope and shape of the church's work and ministry goes to reinforce this. Aims and Organisation Our church vision is 'To live like Jesus, reaching out with God's hope and love., We seek to achieve this through our three key purposes of EncouraginE Maturity, Equipping for Ministry and Enabling Mission. all of this, in and through the power of Jesus Christ. The church is led by the Minister and Leadership Team and Eoverned by the Church Council and together we are working to make a difference to people's lives in and around our locality. Revlew of the year We are Littleover Methodist Church. We aim to be 'A vibrant Christ centred church at the heart of our communit. A worshipping people within the community.. Sunday morning average attendance has been in excess of 100, including 25 children 0-18. We have welcomed new members Wlthin the past year. Evening worship happen5 each week with a more informal group of up to 15. DurinE the week smaller groups meet in homes or on the church premises to encourage deeper bible study, fellowship and pastoral care. Church Council, the Trustee5 of the Littleover Methodist Church, who act in relation to the affairs of the charity and in relation to the provisions of the Methodist Church as Managing Trustees, met three times during the year to consider normal business. In addltiorbal there was an open General Church Meeting. The church Café is open three day5 a week to serve the daytime groups and anyone who called in for a quiet cuppa, and snack. Very popular toddler groups called 'Play Ark, meeting two days a week attracted many parents, carers and toddlers from around the community. The church Monday Lunch club for the elderly continues to meet an identified need in the community. 'Messy Church, take5 place on the first Saturday of each month. The Uniformed organisations contin(Je to thrive. The building continues to be used regularly by other community groups of all ages and abilities including Baby clinics. Pilates, Older People Exercise Group, Parkinson Singing Group and 2 table tennis clubs. There were also ad-hoc users such as Local Councillors and Police holding surgeries. The building has a150 been used as a Polling Station and by the wider church community for Conferences and Synods. Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals take place from time to time. There have been no changes in Staffing levels thls year. As well as our employed staff there were 99 Volunteers, many fulfilling multiple roles, without whom the activities in and around the church would not have been possible to run. 'Christianity Month, 2025 was launched in April ready for May with an emphasis on society transforming work carried out by various Christian charities including a Market Place with charities represented. The rest of May included a variety of different events, some indoors and on church premises and some out Littleover Methodist Church- Report & Accounts12024-20251 Page 2
and about amongst the community. This was the third year since Christianity Month was launched with the aim still being to celebrate the many positive changes the Christian Faith has been responsible for in the world and to invite people to find out more. The vision behind Christianity Month is gradually being shared wider and wider. You can read more detail about all the different aspects of church life at wMv.Imclife.or Income, Expenditure and Fund Balances An initial budget was approved by Church Council on 18th June 2024. A revised budget was approved on 12 February 2025 when the outcome of two, three years, grant funding applications towards three posts became known. Excluding a Restricted legacy received in 2021122 from comparative figures, we see that Income of £284k in 2024125 was an increase of £13k from the previous year. The main reason for thi5 was an increase of £23k of Grants towards Staffing costs. While there were generous one-off donations, they represented a £IOk reduction in the year. There w35 also increased regular giving from the congregation. Comparative expenditure for the year of £261k was just £6.5k higher than the previous year. See Reserves Policy on Page 6. Alms and Organisation We are part of the Methodist Church of Great Britain whose objectives are found in the Our C(ylling document of 2000. The Church ha5 four foci, namely worship, learning & caring, service and evangelism. Littleover Methodist Church's specific vision and priorities remain in keeping with this theme. The organisation and resourcing of regular public acts of worship open to member5 of the church and non-members alike. The teaching of Christianity through sermons, course5 and small groups. The resourcing of pastoral work including visiting the sick and bereaved. Taking religious assemblies in local schools. Promotion of Christiarhity through the staging of events and services. Provision of chaplaincy SeiCe5 to local schools, care homes and other institutions as appropriate and when able. Public Benefit We confirm that the charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by the Charities Act 2011 and FRSIO2. Structure. Governance and Management The governing document for the church is the Deed of Union119321 and Methodist Church Act119761 Detailed governance arrangement5 are outlined withln the Constitutional Practice and Discipline of the Methodist Church by order of the annual conference ICPDI. Day to day management of the church is undertaken by the Church Leadership team along with the Minister. Trustee Training A compiled trustee pack encompassing Methodist and charity commission trustee guidance 15 provided to all new trustees prior to them taking up their appointment in September each year. Any office holders appointed by the trustee5 are also provided with the same trustee's pack. All trustees sign an annual declaration re affirming their commitment and understanding of the role of a trustee. Any update5 01 amendments to trustee guidance is communicated to all trustees prior to subinitting their annual trustee declaration. Related Parties The Church is part of the Derby Circuit (Charity # 11423411 which is part of the Nottingham and Derby District and is a150 accountable to the Methodist Conference. Funds transferred to support the work of the Circuit are known as the Circuit Assessment and are listed individually in the Statement of Financial Activities. Risk Management The major risks have been identified and recorded by the Trustees with professional advice taken as required. Part of the annual rycle of agendas of the Trustees Meeting is to review the risk register and record any findings. Income and Expenditure is being monitored in total and is compared with the approved annual budget on a half yearly basis to detect trends as part of the risk management process to avoid unforeseen calls on reserves. A 5-year financial projection is also reviewed annually to provide early warning of financial trends. Reserves Policy The Reserve5 Policy for the Church is to hold a general reserve amounting to a minimum sum equivalent to 3 months, average Unrestricted expenditure and a separate Building Maintenance Reserve of £50k. The general reseNe should be sufficient to allow the church to continue to fund planned activities, in the short term, in the event of any inability to raise the full expenses including the assessment payable to the Circuit. The Building Maintenance Reserve is to fund any unexpected items of building maintenance and £50k is considered appropriate considering the size and age of the building. With Unrestricted expenditure of E217k for the 2024125 financial year used as the basis, there is a requirement for a Reserves Policy of £54k in the general resee. As at 31st August 2025, the balance of the church general fund was £120.5k. This level remains significantly above the Reserves Policy. The Church Council had previously decided to appoint a Youth Worker given a reasonahle level of confidence in income and having funds in excess of the reserves policy. Safeguarding Every person has a value and dignity which come5 directly from the creation of tnale and female in God's own image and likeness. Christians see this potential as fulfilled by God'5 re-creation of u5 in Christ. Among other thin8S this implies a duty to value all people as bearing the image of God and therefore to protect them from harm. Methodist Connexional practice outlines commitment to the following principles: the care and nurture of, and respectful pastoral ministry with, all children, young people and adults. the safeguarding and protection of all children, young people and adults when they are vulnerable. the establishing of safe, caring communities which provide a loving environment where there is informed vigilance as to the dangers of abuse. We will careftjlly select and train all those with any responsibility within the Church, in line with Safer Recruitment principles, intlijding the use of criminal records disclosures and registration wlth the relevant vetting and barring schemes. We will respond without delay to every complaint made which suggest5 that an adult, child or young person may have been harmed, cooperating with the police and local authority in any investigation. We will seek to work with anyone who has suffered abuse, developing with them an appropriate ministry of informed pastoral care. We will seek to challenge any abuse of power. especially by anyone in a position of trust. We will seek to offer pastoral care and support, including supervision and referral to the proper authorities, to any member of our church community known to have offended against a child. young person or vulnerable adult. In all these principles we will follow legislation, guidance and recognised good practice. Littleover Methodist Church commits itself to ensuring the implementation of Connexional Safeguarding Policy, government legislation, guidance, and safe practice in the circuit and in the churches. The safeguarding team at LMC continues to ensure training on safer recruitment is up to date for various roles, role outlines, and volunteering to promote awareness and consistency in approach. In order to support conversations among church folks especially with those among our church community classed as 'vulnerable adults, in safeBuarding terms, we have provided a guide which aids such conversations with a particular focus on conversations needing to be encouraging, affirming and responsive, void of offering an opinion or advice or make any arrangements on behalf of any person cla55ed as vulnerable adult. The safeguarding team continues to review and identify those needinE to undertake foundation level safeguarding training, and those that are due a refresh to ensure these are acted upon. Littleover Methodist Church commits ilself to the provision of support, advice and training for lay and ordained people that will ensure people are clear and confident about their roles and responsibilities in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults who MBY be vulnerable. We have expanded the good practice section of our safeguarding policy to require that activity risk assessment5 are conducted prior to any activity taking place, with approval obtained from the appropriate individuals. Additionally, a written record of these assessments will be maintained sÈcurely. The update to the policy is to be agreed at Church Councll meeting on 15 October 2025.
