Leadership Report (Elders and Deacons) 2021-2022

Leadership

It has been a year of significant change for MRBC. We stepped into 2021-2022 with Mike Asbery as the Minister at MRBC and we exit the year in Interregnum whilst supporting a Minister in Training.

In April 2022 Mike and Linda Asbery took the decision to move away from ministry at MRBC after 7 plus years of faithful service. Having served through almost 2 years of uncharted ministry territory due to the Covid pandemic, Mike sought a period of rest and reflection before moving on to a new period of ministry.

We have been blessed in many ways as we have continued to minister to each other whilst in interregnum. We have seen Sharon Cross step into the role of Minister in Training and the Deacons and Elders step forward to take the lead in key areas of ministry and particularly in seeking God’s call upon MRBC through a series of Away Days, some of which were facilitated by Duncan and Lesley Mclean. It has been a blessed and challenging period. It is our hope that, as we emerge from a period of listening and seeking God’s voice, that we will be able to establish ministries that God has laid upon the church.

We remain thankful for the leadership of those in positions of responsibility across the church. And we are also thankful for all who support those in leadership.

Baptisms

We have been privileged and encouraged by the recent baptismal service. It is hoped that we will see more such services in the future.

Preaching and Teaching

Mike Asbery took on the majority of the Sunday preaching up to his departure. Since his departure, the lion’s share of the teaching has been delivered by the Elders (and others of the church family) and a number of external speakers. This is likely to continue for a considerable period whilst the process of appointing a new minister is undertaken.

Thursday Worship continues to thrive under the guidance and leadership of Sharon (Minister in Training) and is a blessing to the many that gather on a Thursday morning.

House Groups

Post Covid, we have seen the re-establishment of House Groups. This work has been achieved through the hard work and dedication of Kathy Green. There are now 7 House Groups gathering in fellowship to share and enjoy each other’s company.

Prayer and Pastoral Care

Post Covid, we have seen the re-establishment of the Prayer and Pastoral team. It is a small and dedicated team led by Marinella Heath seeking to meet the many needs across the church family.

1

Alpha

This year we have been able to run both an Adult and a Youth Alpha programme. We give thanks for the people that have given their time to not only facilitate the programme but to also co-ordinate it and the vast number of resources needed to ensure that it runs well for all involved.

Children and Youth Ministry

We continue to be blessed as a church. We have a good number of children and young people at MRBC who are served through a number of differing groups which run on a Sunday or a weekday evening:

Oaks and Acorns

Connect

JAM

Cell Bulletproof Trogs

In July of this year we said a big thank you to Andrew Bullock for his faithful service as the Connect Co-ordinator, a role that he filled for 7 years. As he stepped down, we welcomed Caroline Atkinson into the role of Connect Co-ordinator.

Families Worker

With Sharon stepping into the role of Minister in Training this role is now vacant. To date no decision has been made around whether the role is to remain.

The Manse

As we entered into interregnum, we as a church family generously took the decision to allow the Manse to serve as a family home for a displaced Ukrainian family. The Manse will continue to be used in this way for an unknown period of time.

The Church at Binley Woods

As the church enters a period of interregnum following Rachel Jeffreys resignation, we pray that God will guide them as they seek a new minister.
