Kathryn West, Pastoral A￿lStant, lioisu with the ¢leryJy to visit memb¢rs of tyjr p2ri$h who are
unable to attend ¢hurch due to si¢kn¢ss or a9e. The ministry team is available to visit church
member$ who have requested it. to celebrate COMM￿[0￿ with them either at their homes or in

The Tots service on Twdoy mornirys for pre-school children and their parents/carers eont4nues
to be well attended and has been welcomirg families to St John's for over seventeen years. Tn the
summer a presentation wos made to hlor9aret Hill. who led the Tots 9roup for mary years. The PCC
is delighted that Emily Ambrose has taken over the leadership role ot Tots.

invited.
The Remembronce Sunday service at the War Men￿rIal wos as al*ws very well attended.
A carol service held in St John'$ t)n 20 December.
For the third year. a'8ethlehem Moss. was held at 9.30 p.m. on ChrisFw*ts Eve. This was well
attended and it seems the nYLjority of ot5r ¢oThJregation prefer it to the traditio￿1 midni9ht mas$.
In October. ¢ight'Eucharistic Assislants" were authorised to ossist with the administration of
Holy Cornm￿10n.

The PCC is aware that the hi9h altar frontals are old and beyond reFoir. There ore orvjoiry
di$¢ussions abtyjt purchase of new ones. although the ct)st of bespoke f rontals was thou9ht to be
prohibitive.
The problem of pJrkir4J on St John's Road durirvj services hos been resolved. This involved the
painting of criss cross IFnes on the road denotin9 our boundary.

The St John'$ choir contir0￿ to pky a key role in our worship. thonks to the dedication of Chotr
members under Anne Broo￿ le4der$hip. The choir also m¢ets on alterrnte Saturday mornings for
choir practice. An appeal for T￿1 members has recently appeared in the Link ma9ozin
son￿ memb¢rs of the Coryr¢￿tIOn rn￿t at the 'Touchpoint' hub on Th¢Jr$day mornin9$ for
tea/coffee/luneh and fellowship.
Th¢ Craft Ladies (led by Arni Conroy and JU￿ Winter) continue to P￿ an important role in
fundraisiThJ for the church. together with Sumn Bone's condle sales.
An Autumn Quiz ¥Ks held which wms successful in terms of fell(MTship and fundraisiTrvJ.
The ¢hurch is a member of Churches Together in Stor￿ted (CTS) and representatives attend the
Fonjm meetings whi¢h are held three times a year. CTS a¢tivities inelude Harvest Supper, support
for Team$4u Christmas Shoebox appeal and the Celebration of ChristTrAs Service. which in 2025
was held on Forest Hall estate on knd n¢¥t to St Mary's School. Musi¢ supplied by the Bishop'$
Stortford Bond.

No Safe9uardiNJ incidents were reported in the year 2025. PCC members contir￿e to undertake
online safe9(wdin9 ¢ourses as required by the Dio¢esan Safe9uardirg Team.
The PCC have adopted ¢Jnd follow the Parish Safe9Ardiry Policy and the Parish Sofe9wrdErg
Handbook (2019) recommended by the Dio¢es& This 1$ infornied by the House of Bishop's 9uidance
on safeguarding Children and vuln¢rabl¢ adutrs and fully compli¢2nt with the duty under section 5 of
the Safe9wrding and Clergy t)iscipline Measure 2016. St John's recruitment proc¢sses for staf f
and volunteers are consistent with Dio¢¢san gUFdance. The PCC. Priest in Char9e. and the Parish
Sofe9wrdin9 tyf icer have worked hard to ensure that St John's Church is safer throLsh re9ard
for policy, saf er recruitment and training. The expectation 1$ that all vOlT￿teerS ond staf f member$
are safely recruited. have up to date Safe9(￿1rdIN￿ trainiTg and the correct level of D85 as
required. PCC ore 9rateful to Liz Lister for her work as Parish Safeg(￿rdlrg Officer durin9 2025.
The PCC hos a full meetirKJ in oltermtt months throtyhthjt the year, and met six times in 2025 with
on overage attendance of 80%.
The method of appointm¢nt of PCC members is set QLrt in th¢ Churth Representation Rules. St
JLihn's is currently entitled to ni￿ elected members. At St John's the membership of the PCC
consist$ of the ¢leryy, chur¢h*trdens, licensed wtoral assistant. Deanery Symd members and
those ele¢ted by members of the ¢oryre9ation who are on the ele¢torol roll of the thurch. All who

attend our $ervices are encoura9ed to ¢ommit to Church membership by re9i$terirwJ on the ele¢torol
roll.. in so doirg they become eligible to stard for electi¢)n to the PCC.

St John's Church, Stamted Mountfftclrt Treasure￿9 R•port 2023 Accounts
In presentiTh3 these a(z¢JJnts I have a points to make for a better understsnding of the
figures before you.
1. The Ilrst two sheets, pages 1 and 2. Statoment of Assets and Liabilltles as at
316t Dèeombar 2025. Our Fixed Assets at £557.605 81 are regarded as long-tenn
investrnents from whith we reoive a constant stream of wular dNidends and,
over a period of time, Caprtal Grovth. We rely on these dividends as a regular
SOU￿ of income.
2. The Church Hall is shown in the accounts at build cost as part of the Chur&l's
Assets. This amount of £73,985 could be discounted as it is not realizable.
3. The Connect 120 Fund monies are hekl as agency funds- they are not induded in
st John's financial position as the Fund is for projects across all fve churches.
4. The Stansled Trust monies (Restricted - Charities) of £9,682.86 which are now
administered through the PCC acccmjnt, are also Agency fijnds.
5. The next pages 3 and 4, Income and Expendtture Comparatlve figure$ are just
that- they are not Profft and Loss Accounts As such fhey are a simple record of all
incoming funds and all outgoing costs within the year. As a result comparisons
with previous years a￿ not easy, and could lead one to a completety wtong
conclusion. For example, Gnl In￿Me shown is considerably less than in 2024,
but the reality is that year on year there is little differen￿. It is sirnply that claims do
not always coincide wrth calendar years. Aso, One-off Gift Aid gift5 In 2025 have
benefited from a very ￿ElCOMe gfft of £20.0￿ for vknid) we have been very
thankfijl.
6. Total giving by stsnding order has taken a big knock, parbcularfy during the last
months of 2025 and, while thts has onty ￿Ulted in an annual decrease of some
£2:000, it d￿S translate into an annual loss of approaehing £11.000. Aware of th18
situation, the PCC has agreed to have a major Stewardship drive dunng the late
Spring of 2026 and one of the Dit)cesan Advisors wll be helping us with this.
7 The final page, 5, sht)ws 8t Johns Hall Account where unfortunately several
long-term users have been lost during 2025 and, while some new users are now in
place, the net effect has been for the Hall to have incurred a deficit of just over
£1,000. Dunng the year. the lighting was updated and this has been reflected in
much reduced electriaty costs.
I would like to record my thanks and those of the PCC to Ann Lee who deals w7th all the
cash banking each month, to Tony Crosby deals vrith the Gift Aid Claims from HMRC,
and to Edmund Wlkinson ft)r On￿ again carrying out the A￿d[t of our accounts.
Overall. while the church continues to hotd a sizeablo amount in reserves, it is unwise to
draw on these for any period of time as this creates what anatysts call a °Dotsm Loop. _ as
total inveslments fall, so do dividends and further drawings beG¢)me necessary to achieve
the status quo. thus continuiro to reduce the Capital value ad infintium.
Therefore. in 2026 an Increase in Revenuè is absolutely essential. ￿lIe thrs would be
expected to come mainly from regular giving. increased membership of the 300 Club arKI
more social events are other obvious sources for generats.ng extra income.

Deanery Synod Report 2025
The Dunmow and Stansted Deanery Synod met three times during 2025. We relaunched our
synod meetings this year. with the aim of enabllng one another in mission, Insplring one
another as we serve and supportin8 one another in ministry. All are welcome at our Synod
meetings. not just Synod members. It has been encouragingto see people attend to take
part in one or more of the'topics, we have discussed this year.
In January. we met in Felsted and the meeting had a focus on evangellsm. We were led by
Re¢d Colin Taylor and Matt and Mlchelle Sweeting who gave an inspiring talk about lego
church before setting us off to think about ways in which we could do evangelism in our
parishes. We had been awarded £50￿ per benefice for evangelism (from the diocesan
Mission and Opportunity Fund} which was distributed to Incumbents to spend as they wished
during the year. so this was a timely discu55ion. The meeting also took note of the Colchester
Area Mission Pastoral Cornmittee agreement to recommend to the Diocesan Mission and
Pastoral Committee. the commencement of the formal consultation on the creation of a
plurality (where two (or morej separate benefices are linked together in o defined structure
under the ministry of one incumbent) to include the benefice Stebbing wf(h Lindsell & Great
& Little Saling and the benefice of 8roxted with Chickney & Tilty & Great & Little Easton.
In July we met at Helena Romanes Sthool in Great Dunmowwith a focu5 on thlldren, families
and youth. We were joined by the Colchester Area Youth Advisor, Matt Williamson and Zoe
Licence the Children and Families Leader at Great Dunmow for a lively and encouraging
meeting. As agreed at the July Synod, we subsequently successfully bid for circa £30,000 from
the dlocesan Mission and Opportunity Fund for targeted youth work in Helena Romane5
School and Forest Hall School. Dunmov/s Youth Worker has offered to increase her hours to
work across the two schools and establish a Youth Drop In in Dunmow and Stansted. It is
hoped that lay and ordained people from across the deanery will support this by volunteering
as pupils from the two schools live in parishes across the deanery and it will be a great way to
make connertion5 and establish things locally in parishes In future. The details of this projert
are still being worked out.
In Ortober we met at Dunmow Crematorium for a meeting with a focus on bereavement
support and how churches can support families in our communities. We were grateful to
David Walsh from Dunmow Crematorium and to the Revd Becky leach, Chaplain at St Clare's
Hospice for leading our discussion. It is encouraging to note that bereavement support groups
are now being established in the deanery as a result.
We ended the year by saying goodbye to Revd Colin Fairweather and Revd Robert Stone and
we commit to prayingfor and supporting the parishes in the deanery now in vacancy.
Thank you to lay and clergy members who have supported Synod in 2025 and to those who
have come to a Synod meeting.

SAFEGUARDING REPORT FOR STJOHN'S APCM 23.03.26
Our bNo new PCC members, Malcolm and Sean. have completed the Safeguarding
training ne￿SSary for their roles.
The Safeguarding Dashboard was introduced to PCC members in September 2025. This
is an on-line tool designed to monitor safeguarding policies and procedures wthin the
parish. All PCC members have access to the Dashboard and are able to view what actions
have taken pla￿ and what actions remain to be implemented to ensure their church is a
safe place ft)r all those attending and for all who work for the church, whether paKJ or
voluntary.
Safeguarding Sunday was celebrated at St.John's on 16th November 2025. Rev Colin
Faimeather made safeguarding a focus of his sennon and encouraged everyone to be
aware of the Importan￿ of safeguarding wtthin the lrfe of the parish.
No safeguarding incidents within the parish have been reported to the PSO this year.

The PCC have adopted and follow the Parish Safeguarding policies and procedures as
recommended by the Dia￿se. This is info￿ned by the House of Bishop s guidance on
safeguarding children, young people and Vulnerab￿ adults and is fully compliant wth the
duty under section 5 of the Safeguarding and Clergy Discipline Measure 2016. St.John's
recruitment pro￿sseS for staff and volunteers are consistent wtth Diocesan guidance. The
PCC, Priest in Charge, and the Parish Safegijarding Officer have worked hard to ensure
that St John's Church is safer through regard for policy, safer recruitment and training. The
expectation is that all volunteers and staff members are safely recrurted, have up to date
safeguarding training and the correct kvel of DBS as required.
