Section D Achievements and performance
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year |
The appearance and spread of Covid-19 within the UK, along with the various restrictions imposed by UK and Welsh governments, had very great effects upon the life and ministry of the church. No meetings on our premises were held until 26th July, when Sunday worship services (morning only at first) resumed, with further gaps during the October/November firebreak and December lockdown . These services were conducted with the required restrictions (2m distancing, etc.) in place. Other than these Sunday services, no other meetings were held (Toddlers groups, Coffee Mornings, etc.) due to compulsory restrictions and other practical considerations. During the period when no meetings were held on the premises, recourse was had to services recorded by the Minister of the church at home, which were uploaded to YouTube, and also made available in audio form, accessible via landline telephone, for those without internet access. It was notable that the numbers of viewers and listeners were far higher than the normal congregational attendance. Persistent efforts were made to have a telephone line installed so that live streaming could take place from the premises, with new equipment purchased to enable that streaming once an internet connection was established. Unfortunately, by the time these things were in place, there was another lockdown , meaning that it was thought to be inappropriate to have even a small group on the premises to live stream . Only when services were once again permitted was it possible to broadcast services live from the premises. When Sunday meetings did take place, no singing took place, with recordings from past meetings being played as an inferior but necessary substitute. 1 Meetings for worship and the presentation of the Christian faith: As indicated above, there were severe limitations on our Sunday meetings, with some not able or willing to attend even when this was permissible. Older members in particular were concerned to remain isolated during the pandemic, or were unhappy to attend with all windows left open and face-coverings required. In order to minimise meetings on the premises, the main prayer meeting took place using Zoom Meetings. Despite many older members only being able to join via their landline telephones, it continued to be well attended , with three members also praying together on Saturday evenings by telephone. It was thought impracticable to meet monthly to study and discuss s Catechism, either in the building or online. : Towards the end of 2020, occasional Zoom mid-week meetings for young people took place, with some recorded material placed on YouTube in lieu of Sunday school. The schools work under the auspices of I.C.E. Wales, could not take place on school premises, largely due to the closure and subsequent irregular opening of schools. As a substitute, I.C.E. Wales provided recorded material to be used as required by schools. In addition, just before Christmas, the Minister placed some appropriate recorded material on YouTube for our local school. were unable to meet throughout the year. As there were consequently no voluntary contributions made, the church funds |

were used to donate to Morning for the sponsorship of a little boy. Our usual Easter Holiday Club could not be held on the premises, but the minister produced a Virtual Holiday Club on YouTube, for 6th-9th April.
3 Voluntary contributions: Because there was a very long period when services could not be held on the premises, it was expected that weekly giving would decrease, as many older members, without access to online giving, and attending only irregularly even when meetings were permitted, were unable to give in cash as they were accustomed to. However, instead, weekly giving actually increased. Members and others still donated generously towards the good causes supported by the church, such as Support for Romania, Morning Star entre (South Africa, for children with HIV/AIDS), and Christian missionary societies such as the Africa Inland Mission, the European Missionary Fellowship, UFM, Barnabas Fund, etc., though the giving decreased in comparison with normal years, probably because the majority is normally donated via monthly collections.
4 Community involvement
The monthly coffee mornings and weekly English conversation classes could not take place. As in previous years, nearly two thousand copies of a coloured wall calendar were distributed to homes in the area, with the distribution made this year by a delivery firm, rather than by our members. No meetings could be held , but a video was delivered, as very much a second-best alternative.
