The objectives of th¢ charity arc to proinote. iinprove, develop and maintain public education in an appreciation of the
art and 5cieiice of music in all aspects by th¢ pres¢iiia¢ion of publiG concert5 and recitsls and by 5ucli of the way5 as the
members shall determine from tiine to tiine.
The charity has a policy to undertake its activtty within historicol buildings urithiii the North York Moors, in particular
histori¢ places of worship. The TTUSt 2Ctively seek5 to support the upkeep of tliese buildings ihrough the promotion.

Aehievements and performance
The Trust was able to produce a two week Summer Festival using the same formal as th¢ pr¢vious yea¥ with a matn
tnarquee venue and four chur¢h¢s spread across the North York Moors National Park. The 2023 theTlle 'lnto the
oking Glass. which con5j5ted of 14 concerts. The (heme took its inspir2tion Lewis Carroll's Alice stories which were
explored through the prism of sound all expressed thmugli music. The iiispiration behind the 15th Festival came about
frorn questioning what music means in a world where our understanding of what is real or even nortnal has been
somewhat challenged over tlie past tl)ree years.
The main bulk of activity took place in the specially hired marquee in Welburn Manor which continued io draw new
audiences to the range of styles and mix of ¢omposers. OtheT Concerts were held in Coxwold. Danby, Lastingham and
Egton Bridge. The Trust were delighted to return to Laslingham after an absence of several years 2S It was the ad-ho¢
conccrts held here in thc 20005 whiGh led to the Festival beiiig foutsded., we were delighted tliat the coiicert Wds
cornpletely 501d out. Audicncc feedback continued to show a strong desire to maEntain the arrangcrncnt of a tnai
marquee venue with a 5tnall number of church concerts. The Trustees have continued to ivork hard on a model that is
financially 5UStainable to include ihe marquee. We are very gratefvl to Major arsd Mr5 J Shaw for their generosity in
hosting us at Welburn Manor for tsvo weeks which contribute5 significantly to making this possible.

Iihrougli a travel agency specialistng in classical tnusic tour51 wliicli resulted in a large number of attendees Tn the se¢ond
week. Tickel inconie remained very liealtliy and in¢r¢as¢d significantly on Previous yea￿. The Tn]stees continue tt)
ensure public benefit by allowing affordable acce5S to world class music in local settings. Once again effort5 were also
made to inarket and encourage younger people to atiend: this ittLluded discounted and free tickets.
Two additional concerts were lield duting year. Tlie first one iji May 2023 was held ai St Oswald's aiurch. L￿he. Tl)is
was a fvndraising concert for tlie Church Restorattort Appeal. but it wa5 also an opportuiiity for Ilie Tnjst io pay tribute to
JohaJJnes Setker. wlio liad died eaTli¢r in 2023. Jolidnnes lived locally. 2 liaTP5ichord maker by profwion aHd
lollg-standing Churchwardett of St Oswald'5. He was also a Trustee of Ilie Nortli York Moors Clianiber Music Festiv21
from 2013 20. The Trust were deliglited to raise £1500 for the appeal and share music with Johannc's fricnds and
family. A Launch Concert was held at All Saints. Helmsley in November 202i wliicli featured a range of piano music.
Thi5 was well attended.
The Trustees were able to secure suffi¢ient grants and donatioThs to ensure the 2023-24 p¢riod largely bloke even in
temjs of income and expenditure. The Trustees remain satisfied tliat the Festival is operating in a fjnancially stable
manner. The TTUStee5 met twice durin8 the year to review goveman¢¢ and finan¢ial reqLtiT¢m¢nts and tnake decisioTrs
regarding charitable aciivity.
Financial revlew
The charity relies on donations and grants as the main sources of iiicome. Effort5 to secure new funding sourcc5 have
continued since the year end.
Incotning resource5 for the year were £71,972. R¢sour¢es exp6nded during the year were £83.013 resulting in ao overall
n¢t d¢cr¢ase in fuTrds of £l1.041.
Th¢ amounts of reserves held at the end of the year were £116.899. £51,280 of which is unrestri¢¢ed and £65.619 of
thich is restri¢ted.
Reserves
Th¢ tru5t¢e5 have established a policy whereby a minimum of 5% of tn¢ome should b¢ held in reserves at all times to
cover any unfor¢seen ¢xp¢nditure.

The prTn¢ipal accounting polscies are summari5ed below. The accounting policies have bccn applied consistently
throughout ihe year and the precediiig year.
Basls of accounting
The chariry ¢otLStEtul¢s a public benefit entity as defined by FRS102. The financial statements are prepared under
the historical cost convention, ex¢ept for the revaluation of certain fix¢d assets, and in accordanLe with
Arcounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Re¢oiMtn¢nded Practice applicable to chariti¢s preparing
their accounts in accordance wrth the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland
{FRS 1021 leffcctive l January 2019) and the Companie5 Act 2006 and the Charities Act 2011.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling. which is the fvnctiotjal ¢urren¢y of the entity.
1.2. Cashtlow
The charity has iaken advantage of the exemption in FRS102 for the requirerllent to produce a cashflow statement
because it is a small charity.
1.3. Incoming resources
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities wlien tlie charity i5 entitled to the
incorne and the aniount can be quantified with reasoiiable accuracy. The following specific policies are applied to
particular categories of income..
Voluntary income is received by way of grants, donatioiis and gtfis and 15 included in full in the statenient of

The anonymou5 donation reprcsents monies received towards the commissioning of a commemorative painting.
The balance represents the undepreciated element of thc painttng.
The Sr¢inway Piano fund represent5 an anoiiymous gift received for the purcliase of a Steinway piano and
associated costs. The balance represents the uiidepreciated element of the piano and associated costs at the end
of the financial y￿r together with the balance of ihe donation which is to be used against future costs associated
with th¢ piano.
In the previou5 year donations wer¢ r¢¢eived towards the 2023 Sutnrner Festival marquee hire and site
expenditure.
The Nomanby Trust donation was to support the costs of staging the 2023 Summer Fcstival.
The Festival Bm¢huT¢ Fund r¢pre5ents a specific donation to partially c4)ver the cost of the produ¢tion of th¢
2023 Sur(uner Festival Brochure.
The Overfield Trust grant was to pay musician5 for tl)e fundraising concert for Lythe Church in May 2023.
The Siagtng Fund donations represent monies received towards the purcliase of portable staging used by the
charity. Tlie balance represents the undepreciated elenient of tlie slagtJlE 2t die etTrd of the fjnancial year.
