2023 / 2024 has seen a significant increase in fund raising but regular giving has decreased slightly. The bulk of our donations in this financial year continue to come from the Folkestone School/Church alliance and the focus of our expenditure reflected this with the bulk of our work being with the Kodeni school project and its ongoing support costs. http://kodenischool.org.uk/ In addition money from a legacy was given to Aid to Burkina for some specific projects Some designated funds were allocated to help with famine relief experienced by displaced people in the North of Burkina Faso through terrorism; Microfinance projects; Dorcas girls project; water projects. Both income and expenditure are recovering following the dip post COVID19 pandemic and we are optimistic that fundraising will continue to build in the next few years while maintaining the projects we are currently supporting. Additionally the dispensary in Bana that was built some years ago and which has had to close because of administrative and staffing issues is scheduled to reopen now that the newly implemented appropriate documentation has been completed and the nurse practitioner has sufficiently recovered following his motorbike injury to restart work.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Burkina Faso is now at the top of the world terrorism list https://www.visionofhumanity.org/maps/global-terrorism-index/#/ The political climate in Burkina Faso has continued to be changeable throughout this year terrorist attacks in the North of the country creating much uncertainty about the safety of travel to the country. This appears to be changing as West African countries elect to increasingly distance themselves from ex-colonial French influence. Unfortunately local reports suggest that there is a growing struggle between China and Russia to woo various governments across west Africa. Advice from the UK Government suggesting that all but essential travel should be avoided because of the threat of terrorism continues to prevent us from visiting, although photographs of completed projects are sent to us by our local representative. Despite this, projects have continued, and most can be managed without personal supervision from the UK as systems have been put in place to reliably facilitate this.

We are pleased to report that despite the political challenges and questionable travel safety issues, Aid to Burkina continues to supply funding for the basic needs of the Burkinabe living in the South West of the country through clean water initiatives, free healthcare and educational projects and it is hoped that this will continue into future years.

Respective The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. responsibilities of The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year trustees and examiner under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given examiner’s statement by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
