Deptford Methodist Churchlmission exists lo share the love of God with
all and lo wrtness that Jesus Chnst is Lord and Saviour of all. As a
Mission it serves the community of Depfford and works wrth others to
improve the lives of people in this diverse area with its challen9es of
poverty arK1 other dewvation. We believe that our Christian faith should
be seen in action serving others. The church is fully involved with the
Disabled Peo￿e'S Contact to hèlp the elderly and disabled by havlng 8
day centre on its premises. The church encourages other agencies that
are in $ympalhy wrth our general aims lo use our building and help
others. As part of the Southwark and Deptford Circuit il 18 commffted lo
the wider work of the church in the world. As a Mission we lake seriously
John Wesley's words 'The wodd is my parish,. The chur¢h represents in
its membership many drfferenl countries of the world, particulady from
Afnca, and so our seNice takes on a global significance. Deptford

Summary ofthe main
achievements of the charlty
during the year
The church congregation has returned in smaller numb8rs as the
restrictions of the pandemic lifted. It has taken time for people lo regain
confidence and re-establish patterns of church going. Our work wrth
young Feople continues, though similarly affected by changdd habits due
to the pandemic.
The Disabled People's Contact Centre has retumed in person and
continues to meet the needs of those who otherwis8 would be isolated. It
provides a programme of food and activrties., the church offers a weekly
seNice of worship that enables people to attend church while al the
centre.
The church provides t)ffice and counselling space for vanous
organisations. rt continues the long tem relationship with Second Wave
Ihal works with young people in the ￿rOugh. Along with the shop that
r8ises money for the Disabled People's Contact Cenlre, Ihf.. space at
Depttord Mission is availab￿ for other community organisab'ons le.g.
Karate classes) and the church collaborates with other chufches In
resporKJing to the needs of poverty with donations to local foodbanks and
gifts for chiklren and adults at Christmas.

charity's policy on reserves
The church aims to hold about six months, worth of expenses in resetves,
wrth a small surplus to pay for emergency repairs. Our bad debt provision
is about £58k for rent receivable but the church is still recovering from the
effects of the pandemic.
