Deptford Methodist Church/Mission exists to share the love of God with all Summary of the main and to witness that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour of all. As a Mission it achievements of the charity serves the community of Deptford and works with others to improve the during the year lives of people in this diverse area with its challenges of poverty and other deprivation. We believe that our Christian faith should be seen in action serving others. The church is fully involved with the Disabled People’s Contact to help the elderly and disabled by having a day centre on its premises. The church encourages other agencies that are in sympathy with our general aims to use our building and help others. As part of the Southwark and Deptford Circuit it is committed to the wider work of the church in the world. As a Mission we take seriously John Wesley’s words ‘The world is my parish’. The church represents in its membership many different countries of the world, particularly from Africa, and so our service takes on a global significance. Deptford Methodist Church/Mission welcomes all by opening its doors to everyone whatever their situation.

During the pandemic the church continued to provide weekly worship, either in person when permitted or virtually in collaboration with other local Methodist Churches. Similarly, the church adopted a virtual way of study that has continued beyond restrictions in order to allow greater participation from members. The church has endeavoured to maintain contact with its members and community but recognises the increased isolation experienced particularly by those already disadvantaged. The support for the Contact Centre for older people continues. The last year has been a challenge financially with reduced direct giving and less income from rental streams given the uncertainties and general loss of income across different sectors.

The last year has seen a modest development in our provision for work among children and young people with the start of a monthly club. We encourage young people to participate in wider Methodist activities and now support this with local meetings. Ministry is provided through a team of three ordained staff, church stewards, trustees and staff. We have referred to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit whenever we plan our mission statement objectives, activities and assess our achievements.
