The Dell PTA Chairs Annual Report 2021/22 August 2022

The Dell Parent Teacher Association

The Dell PTA exists to support the school and the community life of the school. These aims are achieved through the organisation of events such as discos, fayres, quiz nights and raffles, and applying for monetary grants and donations of goods and services from a variety of sources. With funds raised by the PTA, the school is able to purchase furniture and equipment to brighten up the classrooms and expand the scope of learning projects. Without the PTA it would be impossible for the school to make basic purchases restricted by ever decreasing budgets.

The PTA work closely with the school staff and leadership team to establish funding needs and priorities, and regularly review the current and projected finances to determine the feasibility of committing PTA funds for the school’s needs.

Charity

The Dell PTA is a registered charity (Charity Number 1129029) and is administered via monthly PTA Committee meetings which are usually held on a weekday evening on Zoom, or at various venues around Chepstow (e.g. local pubs!) The minutes of each meeting are circulated via email to the PTA

Committee/Volunteer/School list and are stored electronically within the PTA’s centralised on-line storage (Google Drive TM, which is part of our google account that is provided by Monmouthshire County Council via The Dell.) As of the date of this report the Trustees of the charity are the current Chair, Mark Turner, and the incoming Co-Chairs, Hayley Miles and Helen Tate. The annual financial returns are submitted to the Charities Commission each August, in keeping with the Commission’s regulations. Trustees can be changed as necessary as the volunteer base changes.

The Committee is made up of parent and school staff volunteers with a wider volunteer base that helps to arrange and run events. The continued operation of the Dell PTA is wholly reliant on the generous assistance and support of the volunteers , to which is extended our deepest and continual gratitude every year , and anybody who can spare time in this capacity is encouraged (begged!) to become involved.

Finance

The year 2021/22 has picked back up following the restrictions of Covid and the lockdowns of the previous year. While we have not been able to implement our usual array of events, we have undertaken remote events around Chepstow to promote seasonal holidays. The pinnacle of our fundraising at the end of the school year is the Summer Fayre and we were able to use the school grounds to enjoy the summer once more and go out on a high and enjoy being together once more.

A full financial report for the academic year 2020/21, produced with our thanks by our PTA treasurer (Hayley Miles for 2020/21) is available from the PTA webpage on the schools website. A breakdown of the year is provided here:

The PTA events and activities which were held throughout the year that provided non-grant funding went well given the circumstances, and once again our thanks go out to the many parents who volunteered. All volunteers undertook events by agreeing to follow Covid Guidelines and work in a safe environment for themselves and others by wearing masks and utilising hand gel as required.

Many events were remote and promoted isolation but continued to be fun and engaging while still raising money for the school.

The Future

While Covid and Lockdown has had a profound affect in the way we raise funds for the school, the PTA has seen growth in its volunteer base this year following the progression of the old team whose children left the school in 2020/21. I am thankful for their new ideas and enthusiasm in what seemed to be a dark time for fundraising. This new team have offered great commitment, and brought along a friend, to be able to spread the workload in support of the PTA and the school.

The last members of the pre-Covid team will be moving on this year and I am happy to advise the new team are supportive and have gelled together successfully to continue the PTA work into another school year.

The Coming Year

The new school year begins in September, as usual, and the Dell PTA AGM will be undertaken in October. In communication with the school we hope to be able to reintroduce our active and inclusive schedule of fundraising activities throughout the year where everyone is free of restrictions and can enjoy being together.

Due to the restrictions of the last year and the support of Monmouth City Council for school improvements, the PTA had no clear project we could work to for the school. This year we will be in discussion to guide our fundraising to a project worthy of the Dell school.

I entered this year as sole Chair of the Dell PTA and admit I was worried about bringing new volunteers in and to find a replacement to lead the PTA onwards while facing Covid restrictions and promoting a new agenda of fundraising that didn’t involve getting together. On the eve of the Summer Fayre I realised I didn’t need to worry. I thank Hayley and Helen for making their intentions known that they would take on the co-chair positions in the upcoming year. I also want to thank all the new parents who have ignored the PTA trope and stepped forward to help in any way they can to assist and allow The Dell be the fantastic school that it is.

Once again, I give my thanks to the volunteers who have helped at events, and also to all the parents who support the PTA events and make them such a success.

Best regards
