Incumbent's Introduction
Once again, I commend this Parish Annual Report to you all. Through it, we
ebrate the ongoing life of our parish.
Many thanks to David Morley, our PCC treasurer, for the hard work he has done
to ensure the clear presentation of bank accounts and funds that we see in this
Annual Report. This is the last time that he will prepare these accounts before the
appointment of a new PCC Treasurer. We owe him a huge debt of thanks for the
dedicated way in which he has stewarded our PCC finances over so many years.
This report continues to highlight the major challenges we fa￿ as a parish.
The first is the ongoing financial cost of maintaining our buildings. St Mary's
Church is Grade I listed, and St Winifrid Grade11. Both require regular ongoing
rna1ntenan￿, and the costs of heating lighting, Insuran￿ etc. From time to time
there will be major costs for repairs or, as we have seen at St Mary's, replacing
items like boilers. St Winifrid's has historic fabric funds that will help towards
meeting some of these costs, and we have the support of trusts independent of the
PC.. The Parish Clerk's Fund and Stainton Memorial Trust. But we could do with a
major Capital Fund on which to draw when big fabric or maintenance issues arise,
such as the replacement of the boilers or big roof repairs. This would ensure that
we do not need to stop paying our regular running costs as a parish such as the
diocesan Common Fund as we have had to do in recent years.
We are tremendously grateful for all who give regularly to the work of the parish.
Thank you for your generosity, and thoughtful, sacrrficial giving. But our Regular
giving falls far short of our regular costs, particularly in terms of paying towards the
di0￿se,$ Common Fund. This is the cost of providing parish ministry. Our hope
would be to cover the whole cost of providing a vicar for our own parish and to
support parishes less well off than our own. We do need to recruit new members
into our Parish Giving Scheme. Please do your best to encourage others to think
about how they might support the ongoing life of the church by regular financial
giving.
And a big challenge is that of people responding to God's call to servi￿. We could
achieve nothing without the dedicated teams of people who give of their time and
abilities in the upkeep and rna1ntenan￿ of our buildings, our social life,
preparations for and participation in worship, and reaching out in Servi￿ to school
and community. Thank youl But we need more people to give time and talents in
the support of and building up the life of our church. We need folk to step up into
key posts, such as PCC Treasurer, Churchwarden, and PCC members and to tske
on tasks that others, through ill health and infirmity, have had to step back.
I want to say a huge thank you to my fellow ministers, all our PCC members and
Church Officers who have served through 2025., and to the many groups
connected with the parish who make up our church community.
Aim and purpose.
The Parochial Church Council of Tickhill St. Mary with Stainton St. Winifrid (PCC)
has the responsibility of co-operating with the incumbent in promoting in the
ecclesiastical parish the whole mission of the church, pastoral, evangelistic, social,

and ecumenical. It also has Maintenan￿ responsibility for the church buildings
within the parish.
Objective8 and Activities.
The PCC remains committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship
at our churches and to become part of our parish community at Tickhill and
Stainton. The PCC maintains an overview of worship throughout the parish and
makes suggestions on how our services can involve the many groups that live
within our parish. Our services and worship put faith into practi￿ through prayer
and scripture, music, and sacrament.
When planning activities for the year, we have considered the Charity
Commission's guidance on public benefit and the supplementary guidan￿ on
charities for the advancement of religion. We try to enable ordinary people to live
out their faith as part of our parish community through-.
Worship, prayer. and communion (both in church, whenever possible, and by
social media), learning about the gospel, developing knowledge and trust in
Jesus.
Provision of pastoral care for people living in the parish, especially the lonely
and vulnerable members of our community.
Missionary and Outreach work.
To facilitate this work, it is important we diligently maintain the fabric of the
churches and the more recent digital link, which enjoys a permanent presence in
our pattern of worship across our parish and beyond.
Safeguarding and Health & Safety continue to take high priorty and are regularly
discussed at all regular PCC meetings. The PCC has complied with the duty to
have due regard to the House of Bishop's Guidan￿ in relation to safeguarding.
Achievements and Perfomiance.
Worship and Prayer
The parish church of St Mary, Tickhill is open daily, affording all visitors to the
church time for both private prayer and peaceful reflection.
There are moming and evening seNices every Sunday. Together with the inclusion
of a morning service on Wednesdays, 'Church Done Differently, and 'Sunday at
4.00, meet monthly to offer a rich variety in our pattern of worship. St. Winifrid's, our
chapel of ease at Stainton, has a monthly Sunday morning Servi￿ of Holy
Communion as another welcome contribution to the pattern of SeNi￿S across the
parish. We continue to provide occasional services in co-operation wth Stainton
Parish Council and the Village Hall Committee to mark Mothering Sunday, Easter,
Harvest, Remembrance, and Christmas.
All are welcome to attend services in our churches and through social media. At
present there are 122 parishioners on the church electoral roll, ￿e1ve of whom are
not resident within the parish. Six names were added during the year and six were
removed,. all having sadly died. The average weekly attendance, taking a typical
Sunday from each month was 51, down from 62 in 2023. The 'Church Done

Drfferently, & 'Sunday at 4.00,, are both relatively new Fresh Expressions at St.
Mary's which have provided an encouraging monthly average of 27 members of the
parish to our worshipping community. The average number of those attending
worship remotely, was largely maintained.
We have celebrated 12 Christenings (a decrease of 13 on the previous year), 8
Weddings (an increase of 3 on the previous year) and 34 Funerals (an increase of
16 on the previous year).
A grant is regularly made to St Mary's (CE) Nursery and Primary School which is
funded partly by the Churches and match funded by The Tickhill with Stainton
Parish Clerk's Trust (a regulated Investment Trust). Each classroom continued to
have a prayer corner and active worship continued to take place on every school
day.
We have two pla￿S representing our parish on the Deanery Synod which
provides the PCC with an important link be￿een the parish and the wider
structures of the church.
We have a team of volunteers who prepare the church for occasional services and
open the church daily, giving the community access for a time of quiet reflection
and private prayer.
The church website and social media platforms continue to be very active during
the year, being a valuable public relations resour￿ in broadcasting the life of our
Churches in the parish. and beyond.
The church continues to remain compliant under GDPR legislation.
Provision of Pastoral care
Pastoral work has continued with vigour in the parish, keeping in touch with the
lonely, the vulnerable and the sick.
Missionary and Outreach
Members of our Mothers. Union have continued to support the valuable work of
the Women's, Refuge.
The weekly notice sheet has been prepared and sent by email to approximately
100 members of the parish on a weekly basis.
Throughout the year we have continued to send significant monthly contributions
to neighbouring foodbanks.
Our monthly parish magazine is distributed by a team of volunteers and is also
available at the back of both churches. The magazine keeps parishioners informed
of important matters affecting the church and articles that help develop knowledge
and trust in Jesus.
St Mary s Church of England Primary School is supported by a committed team of
Foundation Governors working alongside those representing the staff, and those
appointed by the local authority and parents. The School Chaplain, Jenny Hosker.

supports the school's provision of pastoral care, collective Worship, and Religious
Education.
Ecumenical Relationships
Our Roman Catholic friends were able to meet for Community Mass in St. Mary's
church on several occasions during the year. This continues a long and very
welcome tradition. We continue to take part in the activities of Tickhill Churches
Together, including participation in The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Lent
Course, Good Friday and Easter United Acts of Witness, Christian Aid Week events
etc.
Volunteers
We would like to thank all the volunteers who work so hard within our church.
They are too numerous to mention separately, but to you all, without whose help
and commitment our church could not flourish, a heartfelt thank you.
Financial Review
. Total re￿iptS into the General Fund were £100,561 (£91,635 in 2024) and these
are detailed in the financial accounts.
£91,531 (£90,028) was spent to provide Christian ministry from St. Mary's Church
and St. Winifrid's Church.
The net resurt for the year, therefore, was an eX￿s5 of income over expenditure
amounting to £9,030.
We have been especially grateful for the increased number of donations received
during the year, partly as a result of the giving initiative which took place during
June. It is also pleasing to note an increase in collections and fees and also there
has been a welcome increase in contactless giving. On the other hand, regular
giving has fallen a little this year which is, of course, of some concem. Expenditure
was contained but we continue to be fa￿d with the challenge of the high cost of
energy and insurance.
The PCC remains most grateful for the support it continues to receive from its
congregation. The 100 Club once again raised substantial funds and remains an
important part of our annual fund raising.
Close monitoring of finances to meet the financial challenges ahead will continue to
be required, especially with responsibility of financing the upkeep of two buildings
and meeting our Common Fund commitments.
Reserves Policy
The PCC aims to keep bNo months running costs by way of unrestricted reserves to
ensure there is sufficient working capital to fund the running of the church.
In formulating this policy, the PCC has considered the need to make appropriate
contingency for unseen events, to plan for known expenditurelevents and to make
allowance for income sources, not realising expected budgeted levels.

Structure, Governance and ManagemenL
The Parochial Church Council is a corporate body established by the Church of
England.
The PCC operates under the Parochial Church Council Powers Measure. The
Parochial Church Council of Tickhill St Mary with Stainton St. Winifrid is part of the
Diocese of Sheffield within the Church of England. The PCC is a registered charity.
The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church
Representation Rules. At the Parochial Church Council of fickhill St Mary with
Stainton St. Winifrid the membership of the PCC consists of three churchwardens
(being ex-officio and two being in post since the Annual Church Meeting on
21.05.2024, leaving one vacancy), INO Readers are ex-officiol and its membership
elected by those members of the congregation who are on the Electoral Roll.
Everyone who attends our services, indeed all members of the congregation, are
encouraged to register on the Electoral Roll and consider standing for election to
the PCC.
At the APCM in 2022 the concept of a three-year term for elected lay members of
the PCC, by rotation, was agreed. It was then revisited at the APCM in 2023 when
the transitional arrangements were agreed, enabling its application and for it to
reviewed on an ongoing basis. This matter will appear on the agenda for the Annual
Church Meeting in 2025.
PCC members are corporately responsible for making decisions on all matters of
general con￿rn and Importan￿ to the parish, including deciding on how the funds
of the PCC are to be spent. New members a￿ayS receive initial training into the
workings of the PCC.
The Standing Committee, made up of three churchwardens (currently two in
Offi￿), treasurer, secretary and one PCC representative. It is available as a quick
decision-making group, where necessary. It regularly meets before the PCC
meetings to formulate the agenda and discuss pertinent issues.
The PCC met eight times during the year (as in the previous year) wilh an average
level of attendance of 84 % (unchanged on the previous year). Given its wide
responsibilities, the PCC has several committees each dealing with a particular
aspect of parish life. These committees, which include Mission, Fabric, and Events
and Social, are all responsible to the PCC and report back to it regularly, minutes
of their decisions being received by the full PCC and discussed, as necessary.
Nofeen Sweed was Deanery Synod Lay Chair, and Margaret Culloden the Deanery
Synod Representative, both being Ex Officio members of the PCC.

A¢countiDg Policies
The financial statements have been pr¢pared in accordance with th¢ Accounting and
reporting by Charities: Ststement of Recommended Practice applicable to cbarities
preparing their accounts in accordance wÉth the Financial Rewrting Standard applicable in
the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective l January 2015)- (Charitkes SOR
(FRS102} the Finaucial ReFx)rting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of I￿1alld
(FRSI 02) and th¢ Companies Act 2006.
Funds
Endowmenifyndw are fi￿ds, the capital of which must be retalned either pern￿entlY or at
the PCC'S discretion. the income derived from the endowment is to k used either as
restricted or unrestricted income fimds depelldll￿ upon the purpose for which the
endowinent was ¢stablished in the fitst place.
Restrictedfvnds represent (a) income from endowments which is to be expended only on the
restricted purFK>ses intended by the donor and (b) revenue donations or grants for a specific
PCC activity intended by the donor. IVher¢ these funds have unspent balances, interest on
their pooled investment is apportioned to the individual funds on an average balance b&sis.

Incoming Resourees
Planned giving, collections and donations are recognized when received. Tax ￿fi￿dS ate
recognized when the incorning resource to which to which they relate is received. Grants
and legacies are accounted for when the PCC is entitled to the use of the resources, their
ultinmte receipt is considered reasonably certain and the amounts due are readily
quantifiable. Dividends are accounted for when declared receivable, interest as and when
accrued by the payer. All incoming resources are accounted for gross.
Re$ources expended
Grants and donations are accounted for when paid over, or when awardel if that award
creates a binding or constructive obligation on the PCC. The Diocesan Common Fund
payment expected to be paid over is accounted for wh¢n due.
All other expenditure is generally recognized when it is incurred and is a￿OUnted for gross.

Fixed assets
Consecrdted and ben¢fice PToperty is not included ill the accounts in accordance with s.10
(2) (a) and (c) of the Chatities Act 2011.
No vatue is placed on moveable church furnishings held by the vicar and ¢bu￿b wardens (pn
special trust for the PCC and whicb require a faculty for disposal since the PCC ¢OELsiders
this to be inalienable property. All expenditure incurred dwing the year on consecrdted or
benefice buildings and moveable church furnishings, whether n￿1n￿nance or improvemenL
is WTitten off as expenditure.

In 2012, the PCC authorized the establislun¢nt of a 100 Club with the putpose of raisin8 funds for
the General Fund. Subscriptions are made either monthly, quarterly or annually and prizes are
distributed n]onthly. In view of this, the balanc¢ showll in the annual accounts as at 31" December
2025 does not represent fi￿dS available to the PCC. but merely represents the balance in the bank
accouot at that date.
