REVIEW OF THE YEAR We are ricb. loved and have rnuch to Sho about in Oatlands. We are saved by gr through fth and this is not from ourselves so that n0-(e can tX)L8t (Eph 2..8-9). I believe thai has given us everything we need for life and godlin through our knowledge of him who ¢all¢d by his own glory and go(MJness (2 Pl 1.3). Give him thanks and praise for 2024 - another year to serve and glorify him as we wait for his return. It is in the context of these tnth that I rcficct on ow 2024 finan¢c5 and ask God to 'giv¢ us our d'1Y bread. for 2025. God is in the business of building his church and drawing people to himself. our job and joy is to see what is doing and join to be available semnts and ambassadors with the good wS of Jesus Christ. As we b8v¢ prayed for growth, I believe that God is answering. Our planned giving reduction of £3.600 in 2024 Iw already been met with incr¢as¢s in planned 8ivin8 in 2025. However, there i5 still a st¢ep h]'Il to climb this year, &$ w¢ need to shift from mainienance to misjion, shIng our riches and inviting others to join us. We need to start giving for 0wth- giving sacrificially so that we can cover our costs this year and ncxt ycar. planning to glow so thal can prlaIM ChrAst to all in our community. Our lon8-temi goal rnt be to move away from deF¢ndin8 on our flat to fill in the fjnance gap. instead seeking to usc it to how a ministy team {*ith an Up it wuld house a future curate.) We need to lai5e OUT plantKd giving to cov¢r our parish share (with the aid). then our hall income could be used lo develop the S[e for more ministry and community OP[unItieS as well support our office. T am splfiCallY trying that somconc within our church family would wiIIiDg to offer & home to Le0 our PAIS worker, which would save Sl. Mary's over £10,000 a ycar. This wDuld enable us to consider a second PAIS worker to help carry the load with thc ex¢itiD8 increase of young 0p1¢ on Frid Tri8hts. I Pettf 4..10 tells us that each onc should ¢ whatrver tsy have received to serve others. faithfully administeTing God's gra¢e in its various fornis. In other words. some of us can give more time than Money and others, more rnoney than time. We can all contnbute to buildmg God'5 kingdom in Oatlands in many different ways. Please aY and consider how you ¢an serve during this s¢ason of your life. Every ¢ontribution is valu8bk. A big thank you go to Brian and his tcttm for continuing to $ve trcasurer so diligently. You are heaplng up treasurts m heavcn rny friend Yours in Gospel Partncr5hip. Mark
FINANCIAL REVIEW Although l 7S abl¢ to r¢wrt a snwu surplus for the Ye cnded 31° December 2023, 1 regret to advise that our finarwxs have very rnh tsk¢n a nwn for the Worse in 2024.we Iued a dcficit of £40.000 in the year a-loss" of th magnitud¢ is both serious and concerning. The figures are set out on page 5 and I would draw your attention there to the nratIVe"Net IrornIng (Outgoing) rcsourc¢s" on th¢ l¢ft-hand si(k of the page. just over half way doThryL This shows a deficit of £36.717 in Unrestricted Funds and one of £3,587 in Designat¢d Funds. If you look furth¢r down the Icft-hand column, you will see that is a"Gain on Investments'of £25,101, mostly arising from the revaluatson of ow maisonette in St Mary's Road which reduL%s the d¢ficit to £15.000. Although this might sccm a bit comfortin& we. of coursc. need cash to run the Clwrch on a day-kn day basi$ and the fact that our'bricks and mortar" have increaqed iti value does not re411y help us very much from a p)int of view. The obvious question is "Why have we I[ed this deficiif sever factors bave come into play. W¢ had to cany out some WXted rcpaiTS on proptrty &t St Mary's Road at a cost of £3.540. The fenc¢ at the back of th¢ Church was in a px)r slate of repair and had been attracting adv$¢ con)meirt from our neighbours, so it was r¢placed at a cost of £7.536. Had we not done so, it would PTobably have blown dow at Icast in paTL in the gales last year. The vacancy also had impact, in that, although the proty is owned by the Diocese. the local Church is expectcd pay for any redecorats'on or other internal maintenance. which is deemed to be neL%ssary. The totsl of this expenditure. m05tiy rclakng to new M)(x4 flooring and carpctÉng. wa5 £6,546. It is important to mention in this context that Revd Mark and his son. Josi&l4 volunteered to repint the prowty throughout And this h&s. of course. saved us a considerabl¢ Amount of morw. We extend our gratefi thank5 to Mark and Josiah for this assislance. LaSy. our 4 year fixed price energy tsnffs expired in Dember 2023 (electiicity) and April 2024 (gas). Although new fixed pric¢ rA)ntracts had alrcady been agreed, their cost was significantly above the previous tsriffs, Ith'ng to an additional £8,0(K) being S on 8as and electncily. We will have to liv¢ with these higher tariffs until th¢ middl¢ of 2026. after which we have already fjxed our energy costs, which should &t that time redu¢e by approx £5.000 p.a. The of the expenditure mentioned above is £25.600 and is the major wtion of our deficit. It should also bc mentioncd tbat Planned Giving r¢ducvJ by £3,600 due lo Parishioners moving away or dying. In th¢ li8ht of the alK)ve, you will see ihe neoj for Planned Givin8 to iDcrease Revd. Mark h85 b¢cn wging us to review our giving aNI see wbat we call do to itKfc8se it. I am plewd to report that we are already seeing a good resp)nse to that. At the same time, part of the longer-terni solution must be to attwt new members to our Church. but Dot purely for this reason. because that is, after all. pfirt of our mission. However, if you have not recently reviewcd your giving to St Mary's, please do so and enquire about ways in whi¢h you can IKcome a gUlar giver, Af you are not already one. Lastly, I would like to thank all those Feople who 1p m¢ (XTry Out the role of Tre&sJJrer- Helen dc Fra1 who maDAges our letting4 the team of colkction COUDters (Rachel Bainbridgc, Liz Davies, Malcolm Jeffreys Anne Vrionides) and Helen Penkethman who helps with so many of the task4 which my role involv¢s.
