The process of auditing all our DBS and safeguarding trainire for all relevant volunteers is undenyay in order to work towards our statutory safeguarding requirements. The PCC has complied with its duty under section 5 of the Safeguarding & aergy fscipline Measure 2016. The fabric of the Church buildin& as recognised in the Diocesan Quinquennial inspection of Auiust 2021, still needs an ongoing proqramme of maintenance. We have an active pr¢>dramme of remedial works which 15 restricted by the funding available. We have dealt with issues of water ingress. gutterin& bell tower mainten?nce, electricllighting. We continue to monitor further falls of plaster within the buildi and other issues of fabric deterioration. We are looking into solutions to rerne these problems. and the health and safetytearn has forniulated a plan to address the plaster We are grdteful for all those who volunteer their time to support the churth cleanin& and including Gabrielle Stook and team. We have had working groups helping ti0 up both the churth •nd church h•ll...it make5 •n enorn)ous difference to have a tidy and clean environment. The churchyard maintenance is time consumin8, and we helped by Roger Triscott and Phil Smith volL¢nteering and Community Payback Team under the supep4ision of Plyrnouth Probation Seryices who have been attendin8 regularly, making a huge difference to maint•inin8 the hedges and qrass. We h•ve 11 Commonwealth War Gr•ves within the churchyard which are maintsined. We do h•ve an issue wth nDn<ompli•nt tributes on graves whlch we continue to address in a sensitive manner. Jane Banbury has been leodini on our 8reen approaches •nd the areas for rewildinq and encour•iing butterflies are developing. The Priory Site- we have en8aied in contact with the Plympton CNIC Sodety, and we now have local oversight of the Priory site which is within Plympton St Mapls curtila8e. We appreciate the support of Dennis and Steve who have taken on the responsibility of the h•ll garden, and this is reallytaking shape and lookin8the best it has for some years. We albcated a small amountof fundinito purchase plants etc that might be Y•red to improve this environment still further. The Hall management Is import to us •s it provides a venue for Ictsl organisations to meet and provide sessions, Includin8 Sports for all, U3A sessions, keep fit, dancin& private bookings immunisations and voting. All of which provide vital funds. Sarnh Duckworth is instrumental in ensurin8 that all runs smoothly for our hirers and as administrator she is also a central Int for us and St Maurice thurch's and the Team Ministry...many thanksl Social Committee- there have been fewer social events, due to limrted volunteers but have also supported new church events. Thanks to those who help and work tirelessly behind the scenes to make these activities and events successful. Marcia and John Knight ensure that the tabletop sale takes place monthly ak)ng with the refreshment staff who provide light refreshments and are great cake makers. This is our most frequent event and raise5 regularfunds towards our church income. Wethank all the committees who meet regularlyto supportthe safe runnini of ourchurch and the ongoing leadership of Revd LTrzzi Green whilst we remaln in our interre8nurn. An examination indudes a review of the accounting records kept by the chanty and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the a¢¢ounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees conceming any such matters. The team has also supported the Parish Safeguarding officer and the thurchwardens throughout the year ensuring that the parish femained legally compliant to H&S, safe8uardir8 regulations. The H&S team members fomi part of the Fabric Committee and as such ha¥e provided expertise, support and advlce to ensure effective and compliant maintenance artivities are conducted in a timely and safe manner. Plymouth Deanery Synod has met three times: in February June and Cctober last year. Each meeting was attended by our current deanery syMd representstNe. The meetin85 have been well attended overall with opportunities to meet with representsti¥es from churches across the deanery and to hear about changes that are happening within the diocese. We currently have one deanery synod representative but would very much like to hear from anyone who would like to become Involved. Ifs a really valuable experience and well worth the time involved. So what is the aim and purpose of the deanery synod?The Church of England is episcopally led and synodically governed: Deanery Synods can form motions that will io on to DioCen Synod and on to General Synod and is an opportunity for members of the deanery to meet together. Scott introduced himself and swke about his time in Plymouth and in Southwav in particular. He reminded the meeting briefly of the history of TPT and outlined the finan¢i41 challenges that have faced the organisation in the last 2 years. Scott has seen much that has gTrven hirn encouragement in the work of TPT and looks forward to meeting those who serve in Ptymouth tacklin8 the i55S of food poverty and the results of the coStf-1lvin8 Crisis. The Synod was asked to remember prayerfully the work of TPT. The presentation was continued by John Williams who reminded the Synod th•t TFry was an organisation that supported people to help themselves. TPT has supported foDd pro8r•ms with the help of Fareshare and it is apparent nowthat Fareshare are strLwglinq to deal with the demand. John rewrted that Plymouth City Council have contributed £250,CAJO to tackle these issues. Some of the activities run by local organisat5 and thurches Include HIVE and Feast of Fun addressing the need of holiday hunger. Families rely on the provision of xhool meals. and this often leaves gap during the school holidays. There were 8) meals served in 2023. Other issues included hygiene and accesj to hygiene products. Is there any way I can helpr lune 2024 Deane nod meetin The Rev'd Jane Bakker, archdeacon of Hymouth, introduced herself and dexribed her role. Jane explained that there are a lot of possibilitie5 with a city deanery. induding encouraging churches to be creative and develop yrtnerships. Plymouth is looking to create a new plan. Churth attendance currently is low in Plymouth and deprivation is high. Thls rneans the Church Commissioners will invest in Plymouth, but they won't invest in what 15 alrea 8oin8 on. The review will make recommendations, together with the bishop and the archdeacon. There is a big deficit in the di¢xesan budget and whilst there was concern raised about how the plans would be funded, the archdeacon said that the intention is for these plans to be funded centrally, which means that there will not be cuts in Plyrnouth. Jane explained that en8a8ement thjes not alway5 lead to greater ¢hur¢h attendaTh, so we need to be careful ab)Lrt measurables. when the review is completed. the archdeacon would like to have some way of measuring the soft outcornes. There has been much research on how youn8 people are engaging with the Christian faith. But what might it look like here in PlyrnouthP Data.. Growing Faith foundation exists to put children, young people and families at the heart of mission and ministry of the Church by changing the culture of the thurch of England. What lens are we lookin8 through? Points to note.. l. Use of technology to connect with friends and the world. No l an5 of connecting. 2. An increase in young people callin8 Childtine with suicidal thoughts. 3. An increase in CAMHS referrals. The values that youn8 people treasure most are authenticty and integrFty and acknowledgment of weakness. The need to look for this in their leaders. Jeremy then asked, "Do we include our youn8 people in our plans and discussionsy We need to raise the profile of young people in our churches as they are the future of the church. The current position is that only % of UK churches enga8e with youry people on a Sunday. This is an important p)int because it raise5 questions about how we can engage with families and children.
