Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
UHST raises funds to support education in humanist schools in Uganda. Our funds go to schools that belong to the Organisation of Humanist Schools of Uganda: Isaac Newton Humanist Schools at Kateera, Masaka, Mustard Seed Humanist Schools, Busota, Kamuli, Katumba Parents Humanist Primary School, Bundibugyo, Kanungu Humanist Primary School, Kasese Humanist Schools. We also provide scholarships to allow bright but needy children to attend Humanist schools.

Uganda Humanist Schools Trust places considerable emphasis on keeping supporters informed about the progress of the schools. We normally visit the schools each year. We visited in February and October 2024. By having a trustee on the Management Board of each school we can play a full role as partners in key decisions concerning the development and management of the schools. We have improved the tracing of funds. We receive the accounts of the school board and can see that funds that we provide a properly recorded. Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

In 2024 our main achievements were to:
-
provide 166 scholarships to enable bright but needy children to attend the Humanist secondary schools.

We continued to promote independent learning by providing money for books, science and other learning materials.

Our provision of re-useable sanitary pads continued to maintain high level of participation by girls.

To promote collaboration among the Humanist Schools we funded a meeting the Organisation of Humanist Schools of Uganda in Kampala.

At Kasese Humanist School Rukoki Campus we funded major refurbishment and extensions to the library, science lab and dormitories. We also funded a major refurbishment of Kahendero Primary School.

At Isaac Newton Primary School we channelled funds from the Ethical Society of St Louis to build 3 infant classrooms, provided funds for a large open plan covered study space, a new toilet following storm damage at the girls’ hostel and site safety and security improvements.

At Mustard Seed we funded the moving of the computer and science labs to the main school sites to meet examination board requirements and in November we cleared the schools accumulated arrears of teachers pay, and payments for food, firewood and utilities.

At Katumba Parents Humanist Primary School, near the Congo border, we paid for repair of storm damage to verandas, bought a high capacity RISO printer, and paid course fees to enable the school Director to gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

At Kanungu Humanist Primary School we funded a major repair to toilets following storm damage, connection to mains electricity and sent funds for the construction of a school hall.

At Eagle’s View School a UHST supporter in Crete funded the construction of a smoke-free kitchen and rodent-proof food store.

We have increased expenditure on books, science materials, computers, sport and other learning materials and trips across the schools.

Academic performance in National Examinations is good and continues to improve across the schools.
