## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**
The Charity was established by a Declaration of Trust dated 17 March 2009 and was entered on the Central Register of Charities under Number 1128730 on 23 March 2009.
The Trustees serving during the year ended 31 October 2023, were as follows:

New Trustees, if required, are recruited informally on the basis of their related experience and their interest in the work of the Charity. Nominations are approved and appointed by the other Trustees and briefed accordingly.
## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**
The Charity’s objectives are to advance, encourage, develop and maintain public education, in appreciation and involvement in classical music, by promoting a festival of public concerts for public benefit. Furthermore, the Charity seeks to advance arts, especially classical music, by the provision of a public festival of music and lectures in North Norfolk.
## _**ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**_
The 2023 Festival ran for 8 days with 12 concerts, the same numbers as 2022. Sales were excellent. Two concerts sold out and seven concerts were close to selling out. Sales for the song recitals were comparatively low but this was expected; we continue to include song recitals to create a properly balanced programme.
Once again, the Vicar and the churchwardens took control of the seating arrangements, which created a pleasing and well-managed environment. A few days before the Festival began, we discovered that more than a hundred new chairs, which had been ordered and paid for by the church, had not arrived from Poland - they have still not arrived as we write this, 11 Feb. 2024.) This could have been disastrous as no one had thought fit to inform of this! Happily, we were able to ‘borrow’ 70 chairs from The Yorke Trust also based in South Creake. Although we still donated £3,100 to the church, we also felt obliged to pay an extra donation to the Yorke Trust (also a registered charity) for their assistance. Together with the charges made by the church for cushions, increased from 50p to £1 since the year before and again done without any reference to us, NNMF continues to be the church’s largest source of income, another benefit to the community.
Musical highlights were many and numerous. The Festival opened with the largest choir we have had at The Festival, ORA. This sold out and brought in a number of new people from far and wide. The sheer numbers created a great deal of extra work for our volunteers, especially in terms of hospitality, therefore we are unlikely to invite them back. Pianists Alim Beisembayev and Louis Schwizgebel both returned for the second consecutive year. Soprano, Katherine Broderick, appeared in two concerts, interrupting her rehearsals for a Wagner opera in Klagenfurt, and Festival favourites such as Melvyn Tan, Tim Horton, Ensemble 360 returned. We had a concert with harpsichord and recorder, not the usual sort of NNMF fare, which sold well and was rapturously received.

Once again, we welcomed 24 Kirker dienls. Not only is this a welcome contribution to box
Off VenUe, Tt benefrts the region as they stay in a local hotel for 5 nhtS and wsits several
important houses and gardens.
We had to change our catering affangemenls and instead of offering Iwo cDurse served
Slbppers, we employed a h)cal resKlenl who runs a sandwich making business. High Tide
Picnic H8rnpers, in the summer. This was well enough received but for 2024 we will relum lo
the orwJinal fomiat with a new localty based Cater.
We announced our plans for the 2024 Festival during Ihe 2023 Festival. We are now pknning
a slvJhtly longer programme for 2025 which will see Ihe 20th anniv8rsary of NNMF.
Our Wnter Series of fwe Sunday afternoon ooncerts at Wells Mamings continues to grow in
popul8rily. We invite younger and less-established musicians, wf(h some ex¢eFAions, lo these
concerts. Wintef in this area is very quiet and our concerts give a focus to music lovers when
little else is taking place.
We welcomed a young double bass player as a volunteer for the enti Festival. He needed to
work as a volunteer with an orrJ8ni58tion such as NNMF. lo complete his training for the Duke
of Edinburgh Award and will be presented with this during the next few months. Ouf own
volunteers continue to do sterting wort despbte Iheir increasing years and fortunately stay in
good health. Finding new volunleers is IneasInglY diffi(JJh. something whid) shared by
organisations everywhere.
FINANCIAL REVIEW AND RESERVES
The Receipts and Paymgnts Account ofthe Charity is sel out on page 1.
Total receipts for the year were £98,354 (2022. £99,873) and total expendtture was £94,769
{2022'. £91.7421, meaning that net receipts were £3,585 (2022.. £8,131).
As 81 31 Ocaober 2023 unstriCted funds were £58,090 {2022: £54,505).

## **1 General notes**
Basis of accounting:
The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis. Accordingly no account is taken of amounts payable or receivable at the period end.
## **2 Transactions with Trustees**
The Charity does not have any employees.
Mr S Rowland-Jones, a Trustee, charged the Charity £3,900 for programme, website and administration work, as well as a recital (2022: £nil)
Mr B Cheeseman, a Trustee, charged the Charity £nil for the use of his own home as accommodation and administration (2022: £3,000).
## **3 Other disclosure issues**
The Charity has not given any guarantees charged or received a loan secured on any of its assets, or has at the year end any contingent liabilities. The Charity does not receive grants as a material part of its income.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ON THE UNAUDITED ACCOUNTS OF NORTH NORFOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL**
I report to the trustees on the examination of the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 31 October 2023 which are set out on pages 1 to 3.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the trustees of the Charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent Examiners’ statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
