This is<br>achieved primarily by donations received at<br>coffee mornings at both Brookside and<br>Wesley Hall. |Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|It is pleasing to report that room bookings<br>are approaching the levels achieved pre<br>the pandemic.<br>The Church is in partnership with St Mary’s<br>Church, East Barnet in the East Barnet<br>Anglican Methodist Partnership (EBAMP).<br>Shared activities with St Mary’s and other<br>churches and faith groups include Lent<br>Groups, the annual Remembrance Sunday<br>service and service to launch the annual<br>Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.<br>In addition, members participate in and<br>support a wide range of community<br>activities including foodbanks, community<br>centres, faith and peace walks and other<br>outreach work.<br>Wesley Hall has also been utilised as a<br>collection point for gift packages which<br>have been sent out to those in need,<br>including The Ukraine and Romania.<br>Both Brookside and Wesley Hall have<br>benefitted by the attendance of Police<br>Community Officers who have come to<br>coffee mornings at both venues and<br>warned of criminal activities such as<br>scammers.<br>Brookside has a craft group and celebrated<br>the King’s Coronation with special events.<br>Wesley Hall and Brookside provide<br>important indoor venues for the annual<br>Christmas fairs. For Brookside, this<br>included hosting an art and craft exhibition<br>for local artists.|

## **Financial Review**

Review of the charity’s  Para 1.21  By virtue of the increased amount of room<br>financial position at the end  bookings, the Charity’s financial position<br>of the period  has further improved from the previous<br>year.<br>Statement explaining the  Para 1.22  As well as holding 12 months reserves for<br>policy for holding reserves  general expenditure, reserves are being<br>stating why they are held  held for property maintenance and<br>upgrades for both properties.<br>Following the recent quinquennial<br>inspection, an action plan was<br>drawn up to undertake the required repairs<br>and maintenance. ## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Barnet Brookside Methodist Church for the year ended 31 August 2023 set out on pages 13 to 14  As the Church’s trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Church’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and, in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent Examiner’s Statement** 

I have completed my examination.  I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which give me cause to believe that in, any material respect: 

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the  Act; or 

- the accounts do not accord with the accounting records. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
