Para 1.20 After a challenging couple of years caused
by the restrictions which arose following the
Covid pandemic, the Charity has been able
to resume nearly all of its activities and
increase some of its activities. In particular,
Brookside’s Saturday coffee morning is
now a weekly event with increasing
numbers offering a warm space to the
wider community, craft activities and an
opportunity for refreshments and to meet
new people.
Wesley Hall restarted its summer socials
with activities, tea and friendship when
many other local groups closed for the
summer
Brookside is part of the East Barnet
Anglican Methodist Partnership with St
Mary’s Church East Barnet and in
partnership with other churches and
organisations, it took part in the annual
Remembrance Sunday Service, Royal
British Legion Launch of the Poppy Appeal
and Memorial Service, remembering those
who have died.

The Charity welcomed back most hirers,
with new room bookings added.

Para 1.21 The Charity’s financial position has
improved overall. This was due to
increased giving lettings. However, this has
also increased costs associated with the
premises and a payment of £10,000 was
made to the Methodist Pension Reserve
following a request from the Methodist
Church.

Responsibilities and basis of report

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Barnet Brookside Methodist Church for the year ended 31 August 2022 set out on pages 10 to 11 As the Church’s trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Church’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and, in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent Examiner’s Statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which give me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

I have not obtained independent verification of all investments with the Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes or held in other trusts, bank balances and funds at the Central Finance Board of the Methodist Church which are individually in excess of £10,000 (ten thousand pounds) at the balance sheet date.
