These policies are kept at the Nursery and are reviewed and updated annually.

Objectives and Activities:

At Catherington Nursery we aim to:

Catherington Nursery sees parents as partners in helping each child to learn and develop; and in which parents help to shape the service it offers.

Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. The care and education offered by the Nursery helps children to continue to do this by providing all of the children with interesting activities that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.

For children between the ages of 0 and 5 years, the Nursery provides a curriculum for the foundation stage of education. This curriculum is set out in a document, published by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the Department for Education and Skills, called Curriculum Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage Revised 2021. We follow this guidance. We are also regularly inspected by OFSTED – last inspection January 2022. We were graded Requires Improvement.

TRUSTEES’ REPORT (CONTINUED) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] AUGUST 2022

The guidance divides children's learning and development into seven areas:

EYFS has defined seven areas of learning and development. These are divided into three prime areas and four specific areas.

The three prime areas are the most crucial for a child’s healthy development:

The four specific areas detail the important skills your child will need to develop:

Summary of main achievements of the charity for the year 2021-2022:

In January 2022, we were inspected by OFSTED and graded requires improvement. We have spent the following months upgrading and improving our environment, both indoors and outdoors. We have had a major change of staff, which will help us go forward and embed better practice. There is now a development plan in place which we will be following throughout the next year. We are being supported by our local authority, and following their advice.

As a result of our grade, we were no longer entitled to two year funding.

Financial review:

We try to hold a reserve of approximately £5000 to meet any unforeseen expenditure. Our main source of funds is received through Early Years government funding for 2 & 3-year old’s. We also receive fees from children that don’t receive funding (funding is given to children in the term after their 2[nd] & 3[rd] birthday).

Once all running costs/expenditure have been paid, all remaining funds are used to provide the children with equipment and resources.

Future plans:

To improve the next outcome of our Ofsted inspection which will be due in January 2023.

The Trustees’, who are directors for the purposes of company law, present the annual report together with the financial statements of the charitable company for the year ended 31[st] August 2021.

This report has been prepared in accordance with the small companies’ regime under the Companies Act 2006.

The annual report was approved by the Trustees of the charity and signed on its behalf by:

CATHERINGTON NURSERY NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST AUGUST 2022

1 Accounting Policies

1.1 Charity information

Catherington Nursery is a charity limited by guarantee and incorporated in England and Wales. The registered office is Catherington Village Hall, Catherington Lane, Waterlooville, Hampshire, PO8 0TD.

Catherington Nursery meets the definition of a public benefit entity under section 34 of FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value, unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy.

The principal objectives of the charity are detailed in the Trustees Report.

1.2 Basis of preparation of financial statements

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (from October 2019) - Charities SORP (FRS102), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.

1.3 Income

Income is recognised when the charity has entitlement to the funds, any performance conditions attached to the items of income have been met, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Income from investments is included in the year in which it is receivable.

1.4 Expenditure

Resources expended are recognised in the period in which they are incurred. Resources expended are allocated to the particluar activity where the cost relates directly to that activity.

Charitable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activites and services for its beneficiaries. It includes both costs that can be allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them.

1.5 Tangible Fixed Assets and Depreciation

Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost less residual value of each asset over its expected useful life, as follows:

Fixtures and Fittings - 20% Reducing balance

1.6 Financial Instruments

The charity has elected to apply the provisions of Section 11 'Basic Financial Instruments' and Section 12 'Other Financial Instruments Issues' of FRS102 to all of its financial instruments.

Financial instruments are recognised when the company becomes party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.

Financial assets and liabilities are offset, with the net amounts presented in the financial statements, when there is a legally enforceable right to set off the recognised amounts and there is an intention to settle on a net basis or to realise the asset and settle the liability simultaneously.

The charity’s financial assets and liabilities consist of cash and cash equivalents, short term investments, trade debtors, trade creditors and accrued expenses. The fair value of these items approximates their carrying value due to their short term value. Unless otherwise noted, the charity is not exposed to significant interest, foreign exchange or credit risks arising from these instruments.

Term deposits of less than one year are classified as investments within current assets.

1.7 Deferred Income

Income is deferred where the charity is not yet entitled to the use of the resources. When the pre-conditions for use are met then the income is recognised.

CATHERINGTON NURSERY

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Catherington Nursery

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the company for the year ended 31[st] August 2022 which are set out on pages 3 to 7.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (‘the 2006 Act’).

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your company’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  2. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

  3. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities [applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)].

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
