Otley Methodist Church delivers a regular Sunday morning service at 10:30aM including a monthly
service of Holy Communion. A Bible Study and prayer meeting also takas place on Wednesday
evenings, once a fortnight.
Joint services with other churches both wilhin the town. and within the Circuit. are also held when
possible. The usual monthly joint Circuit evening Servi￿ was put on hold throughout the Covid
pandemic period.
Again, due to the pandemic it has not been possible to hold either our café style servlces Messy
Church events or to invite the Unlforrned Organisations to join in servi￿5 with us. The￿ a￿ all
things w.e aim to pick up again as soon as we are able to do so.

The size of the congregation and the membership list has shrunk significantly throughout the
pandemic period. Numbers attending have averaged around 30 and the rnembership list currentty
stands at 88 having reduced frorn 110 in the last few year5.
Teaching of the Chrlstian Faith.
We continue to ensure that teachtng the Christian faith is a core activity and do this via 5emK)ns,
service, sheets, Advent and Lent groups. Bible studies and advertising wider Dlstr"ct. Regional and
Connexional Online/face to fa￿ courses and progrdmmes. We have also received and delivered
weekly pastoral letters from our M i nlster,
Pastoral care of the Church comrnunfty role.
Each of our members has a pastoral visitor{￿ visitor usually has about 10 members to care for).
Our minister also carries out pastoral vtsits, end of life and bereavement care. Access to Care
Home5 and our members w40 live In them. We h.ave a good number of pastoral visitors whowork
hard to provide appropriate support to members via phone calls, visits emails and letters.
Prornotion of Christianity through special event
All our speaal events and services throughout the year. Public health has been our main priorlty
through the pandemic and the implernentation of clear and tnorough covid guidance for the use of
buildings and for pastoral visits has been implemented rigorotssly in orderto give people
confidence to take part in safe and manageabje ways.
Chrlstian Nurture of The Young In Sunday Sthool And Unrformed Groups.
The Methodist church as an organisation has a long history of nurturing children arKI young people,
and this Is still somethirE we do today. We have several groups within the uniformed organisations
(Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides) running during the week. In August we
run a very popular holiday clubforprimary school-aged ehildren who enjoy three days of game5.
crafts. drama and Bible stories.
Support Of UK And Overseas Charities Financially And Wrth Prayer.
During the year we carried out a number of acttvities to support charities both in the UK and
overseas. We uphold the￿ charities in prdyer wtthin our regular SerVi￿s. and at the prayer
meetings on a Wednesday evening. Our ecumenicaj Lent Lunches help to raise funds for Christian
Aid as do a number of artivities in thristian Aid Week.
Impart of Covid
The Covid pandemic whiGh impacted our membership list and on ourfinancial situation (both
through decreases tn financial giving and more particularly through lost revenue from external
bookings) led to some major decision5 being taken by theTrustees. TheTrustees have declded that
the buildings are now too old. too restrictive, and too costly to maintsin. We also recognise that we
do not have the personnel to manage them well and so have tsken the decision to put them up for
sale. Lambert. Smith. Hampton Surveyors have been appointed to act on ourbehalf with the
disposal process and with trylng to find a newer, smaller, more flexible and cost*ffective

alternative. Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes have approvedthe sale process and we await
Its outcome. The congregation Is detemiined to continue in its life and rnission.
Public Benefit
We confirm that theTnistees have had regard to the Charitycornmission's guidance on publfc
benefit.
