St Mary the Virgin Church, Riverhead with Dunton Green
Aims and Purposes.
The Parochial Church Council (PCCI of Sl Mary the Virgin has the responsibility of
cooperating with the clergy in promoting in the ecclesiastical parish. the whole mission of the
Church. pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. The PCC is also responsible for the
maintenance of both Church and Church Hall and for the general upkeep of ils churchyard.
(However, being closed for burials, responsibility lies with Sevenoaks District Council).
Objectives and Activities
The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible lo worship al the church of St
Mary the Virgin and to become part of that parish community. The PCC maintains an
overview of worship and makes suggestions on how services can involve as many people
that live within the parish as possible. The services and worship of Sl Mary the Virgin seeks
lo pul faith into practice through prayer and scripture. music and saGrament.
When planning activities for the year, the PCC have considered the Charity Commission's
guidance on public benefit and, in particular, the supplementary guidance on charities for th8
advaricement of religion. In particular, the PCC tries lo enable people lo live out their faith as
part of the parish cornmunity through.. • Worship and prayer,. learning about the Gospel,. and
developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus. Provision of pastoral care for people living
in the parish. Missionary and outreach work.
1. Worshlp and Prayer
The PCC is committed lo offer a range of services during the week and over the coursè of
the year that the community finds both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling. Sl Mary the Virgin
upholds the Anglican ethos of worship that offers a broad spectrum of worship, which
encompasses the Book of Common Prayer18am Holy Communion) and all forms permitted
under Cornmon Worship19'.30am Parish Communion and mid-week Communion) and
Servic8s of the Word19'.30am All age and Morning Prayer, Sunday and mid-week).
The regular pattern of 8am and 9.'30am servicè limes have been maintained on a consislenl
basis during Ihe year, along with a mid-w&8k service lime on a Thursday and occasionally
an afternoon or an evening act of worship.
Worship has continued lo take place commemorating key events in the liturgical Galendar,
being Harvest, Remembrance, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easlor. During the
year numbers allendin9 Christmas and Easter. of which returns are given lo the National
Church, were as follows (previous year in brackelsl..
Good Friday and Easter Sunday 146 (1341 and Christmas Eve and Day 502 (473).
As of 31. DoGember 2024. Ih6r& were 12611291 parishioners on the Church Elector81 Roll,
85 (881 of whom were resident in the Parish and 41 141 } of whom were non-resident.

Team services have taken place celebrating Ihe midweok festivals of the lilurgiGal calendar
on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Ascension.

2. Church Hall
The hall has returned lo full operatin9 Gap3Clty, serving both the Ghurch and community. The
hall is used for parties and regular and one off groups.
3. Pastoral Care
Home communion has been offered to members of the congregation in their homes as well
a5 general visiting undertaken around the parish.
4. Misslon and Evangelism
The PCC has given money to charitable concerns and good causes and events organised
enabling the community and congregation to gather logelher at Christmas, Easter, Harvest,
Remembrance and All Soul's.
5. Ecumenical Relationships
The church participated in the annual 'Ride and Stride, event raising money for many
Historic Churches Trusts enabling them lo make grants lo places of Christian worship

offer and sustain its ministry and mission through the year.
Flnancial Review
Income for the y881 8nd8d Decemb8r 31, 2024 axceeded expenditure by £8,864 (£4.1351
resulting in nel assets of £237,171 compared with £228,307 in 2023.
Reserves Policy
The r6Sgrves policy is that reserves should be a minimum of Ihr&e month's expenses.
Unreslricled reserves held al D6cember 31, 2024 were £186,9431£183,174}, so are
comfortably above this minimum. If possible, reserves should be maintained al the level
required lo provide for any major expenditure identified in the most recent Surveyor's
Quinquennial Report.
Structure, Governance and Management
The method of appoinlmenl of PCC members is sel out in the Church Representation Rules.
At Sl. Mary the Virgin the membership of the PCC consists of the Team clergy,
churchw'ardens, Licensed Lay Minister, co-opted members. deanery synod repr6sei)lalives
and member5 elecled by those from the congregaliori on the electoral roll of the church, All
those who attend our services I mem bers of the congregation are encouraged to register on
the Electoral Roll and sland for election lo the pnc. The PCC members are responsible for
making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance lo the parish including
deciding on how the funds of the PCC are lo be spent.
The PCC has mel on 6 oGcasions since the last APCM on 19th May 2024.
To conduct PCC business the Standing Commil'iee (the only commiliee required by lawl
now meets only when required, subject lo any directions given by the Council.

The benefice of the West Sevenoaks Team Ministry
Following the incorporation, by Pastoral Measure on the 12, of November 2019, into a new
Team Ministry, a Joint Council lo develop the ongoing life ol the Te3m was approved by all
three Annual Parochial Church Meetings in 2021. Representatives from each of the
churches serve on the Council and their work takes place within six sub groups. These are..
11 music, 21 worship, 31 children, young people and families, 4) Pastoral, 51 Mission and
Outreach and Gl Discipleship. The recommendations of the Jaint Council r8lating to the sub
groups are brought for agreement lo all three Parochial Church Councils. Oue lo a lack of
equal representation from all the Ghurches and challenges within the Team the Council has
not mel during Ihe past 3 years.
