## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2025**

## **FINANCIAL RESULTS**

We are thankful for the Lord’s continuing goodness to us as a church.

Although regular donations and giving to the church’s unrestricted general funds decreased in 2025, compared to 2024, unrestricted expenditure was also lower attributable to staff cost savings and a prudent approach to spending generally. There would have been a deficit but for two large donations received in the year which significantly boosted unrestricted income, resulting in a net unrestricted surplus for the year of £52,779 before transfers (2024: surplus of £28,540 before transfers, noting that this included the £30,000 legacy received).

We continued to apply designated reserves to funding the Pastor’s family accommodation rentals and related costs for which £27,146 was utilised during 2025 (2024: £25,790). The Pastor’s Accommodation fund was topped up with £2,465 of unrestricted funds to reflect the revised commitments through to September 2026, leaving the year-end balance at £20,577. The Trustees have resolved to extend the accommodation and related support by 12 months to September 2027 for which unrestricted funds will be designated when details are finalised.

The overall financial surplus for 2025 was £25,523 (2024: £744).

## **PURPOSE**

The purpose of the church is to advance the Christian faith and to

- worship God in every part of personal and corporate life,

- make disciples of Jesus Christ, who gladly obey Him,

- make known the Gospel of Jesus to as many people as possible,

- equip Christians for ministry and to encourage them to use every spiritual gift provided by God in love, in accordance with the Scriptures and enable the expression of such faith through lifestyle, social action and community involvement consistent with Biblical teaching.

## **AIMS**

Sandcross Church operates as an undenominational gospel mission work in conformity to the covenant on its land. This is achieved through all the activities of the church in an integrated manner. As a result, worship, teaching, training and mission are the reasons for every activity and aspect of the church’s life. This follows the Biblical pattern of church life in which there is a continuous cycle of disciple-making, disciple-equipping and disciplesending to make more disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ - all within a framework of worship and Biblical teaching.

## **PUBLIC BENEFIT**

The charity acknowledges its requirement to demonstrate clearly that it must have charitable purposes or ‘aims’ that are for the public benefit as set out below. Details of how the charity has achieved this are provided in the Trustees report. The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit before deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

## **REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES**

Sunday worship and Bible teaching services continued as our primary ministry to our members and visitors to Sandcross Church under the leadership of Pastor Gregory Park. Several speakers came from Christchurch Banstead during the year to support us with preaching and leading of our Sunday services, for which we are very grateful.

Other activities continue to be undertaken including:-

- Literature ministries, including Bible reading notes and library.

- Welcoming ministries, including housekeeping, building services, hospitality, refreshments and stewarding.

- Technical services, including audio, video projector, website and IT.

- Ministry support, including transport, church office, treasury, communion preparation, data management, child protection, safe guarding and health and safety, with Pastoral support including home visits, hospital visits.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES (continued) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2025**

## **REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES (continued)**

These ministries were predominantly delivered by serving members and others who serve the Lord in a voluntary capacity including the pastor’s family, and the Sandcross pastor.

We are grateful to all who have faithfully and loyally contributed to the ministry of the church during 2025.

## **SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THE YEAR**

## **Key Objectives**

- Develop the Biblical pattern of church life where worship, teaching, training and mission is focused on disciple-making, discipleequipping and disciple-sending.

- Maintain appropriate governance arrangements.

## **TRUSTEES, STAFF & MEMBERS**

We are grateful for our pastor Gregory and that churches in his home country of South Korea continue to support him financially. We provide housing for Gregory and his family and trust that we shall, at some point, be able to provide fully for him. Early on in 2025, we were able to extend the lease on their home by a year to September 2026.

Paul Rogerson, a trustee for several years, resigned on 31st October following his move to Norfolk but continues in the role of church treasurer. We are actively looking at enlarging the staff team and trustees from amongst our serving members and we are trusting the Lord that this will be possible, in His good timing.

## **MISSION INTERESTS**

The church has maintained its support of its mission partners and their ministries:

- Chris and Camica Hemborough; Project Mozambique Plus.

- Stephen and Irene Tucker; Wycliffe Bible Translators.

- Sparkfish (local school’s work).

- Lionel and Katy Clargo; Counties (retired)

- Hillary Millard; formerly Head Teacher at Amano Christian School, Zambia.

- Rick and Alanna Creighton, JETS Theological College, Jos, Nigeria

During 2025 we appreciated visits from Chris Hemborough and a representative from Sparkfish. Each reported on their mission work and thanked Sandcross for the ongoing prayer and financial support they receive.

## **CHURCH GROUPS AND EVENTS**

The weekly parents and carers children’s group “Tiny Tunes” takes place on a Tuesday morning and continues to be popular. In addition, the local preschool comes on a regular basis to hear a bible story and attended the Tiny Tunes Christmas Story.

Sandcross Strollers continues to be very well supported with a collective walk once a month on a Saturday afternoon.

The Wednesday afternoon and evening “Thrive” and bible study group continues and is very popular. Once a month the Thrive programme includes a prayer meeting and Home Group sessions. A Beaconlight Course “Sharing Jesus” was conducted in October and we are most grateful to Paul Adams for presenting this.

An evangelistic curry evening was held on 26th February and was well attended.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES (continued) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2025**

## **CHURCH GROUPS AND EVENTS (continued)**

The men’s club met monthly on a Saturday, sometimes over breakfast, and a ladies group also started to meet on a Saturday in September.

Family outreach brunch services were held in March, June and again in November.

Open Church, where the church is available on a Wednesday morning, has proved to be successful for anyone wishing to come along for refreshments, prayer or conversation.

Our Annual Church Meeting was held in July. Serving members were reminded of the activities undertaken in 2024, updated on the church finances and advised of the works and programme in progress and planned for the rest of 2025 and into 2026. Testimony and encouragements were shared and prayers of thanksgiving offered for the Lord’s sustaining.

The weekly Monday evening zoom prayer meeting continues to be well attended.

The church held it’s usual Christmas services including a “Christmas Story” service for the Tiny Tunes children and the very well attended Carols by Candlelight service.

## **BUILDING WORK & I.T**

Replacement lighting in the main church building and prayer room was installed in January 2025, funded from Wesley’s legacy and improvements carried out to the fire alarm system.

The storage shed in the garden was completed and has been made available for the use of the children’s charity “Sparkfish” who required storage space.

A five year electrical inspection was carried out in April and all was found to be well.

L.E.D. lighting was installed in the front toilets together with a new electric hand dryer in the ladies toilet was actioned in May.

A new electrical heating system was installed in the main church and front foyer, comprising eleven heaters. This work was carried out in May and June. The heating temperature can be altered remotely making it easier to arrive at a comfortable temperature in the church.

A baptistry heater was purchased in November as we had previously needed to borrow one from another church, and a new projector purchased in December which has enabled the older projector to be made available for use in the back hall of the church.

Works were planned and completed in 2026, namely to install a new heater in the prayer room, the complete decoration of the church main area for services, new blinds in the main hall and prayer room and a glass door etched with the Sandcross logo into the church. This has also concluded the spending of Wesley’s legacy, for which we remain so thankful.

## **RESERVES POLICY**

The Trustees’ policy is not to accumulate available reserves unless deemed necessary or prudent prior to making a commitment to new ministries, projects, staff or facilities.

The Trustees have designated reserves specifically to fund our Pastor’s accommodation and related costs for the period to September 2026.

## **RISKS AND UNCERTAINTIES**

The trustees have considered the major risks to which the church is exposed (including financial misfeasance, health and safety, child protection, security and data protection). Overall, the trustees are satisfied that adequate measures have been taken to mitigate identified risks.

## **GOING CONCERN**

The Trustees are grateful for the Lord’s continued provision for this church and give thanks to God for the large net surplus in 2025 and the healthy reserves position going into 2026.

The church budget prepared in early 2026 indicates the regular funding requirements are manageable until at least mid-2027. The Trustees will continue to monitor the regular giving and take appropriate steps to manage costs as required.

In conclusion, the Trustees consider that it is appropriate to present the financial statements on a Going Concern basis.

**SANDCROSS CHURCH** (A COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE)

## **NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2025**

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES**

## **Summary of significant accounting policies and key accounting estimates**

The principal accounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial statements are set out below. These policies have been consistently applied to all the years presented, unless otherwise stated.

## **Statement of compliance**

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019) - (Charities SORP (FRS 102)). They also comply with the Companies Act 2006 and Charities Act 2011.

## **Basis of preparation**

Sandcross Church meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.

## **Preparation of accounts on a going concern basis**

Preparation of the accounts is on a going concern basis. The Trustees are of the view that the level of reserves will support the charity going forward.

## **Changes to accounting estimates**

No changes to accounting estimates have occurred in the reporting period.

## **Income**

## _**Recognition of Income**_

These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when:

- the charity becomes entitled to the resources;

- it is more likely than not that the resources will be received; and

- the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.

## _**Income with Related Expenditure**_

Where income has a related expenditure (as with fundraising or contract income) the income and related expenditure are reported gross in the SOFA.

## _**Grants and Donations**_

Grants and Donations are only included in the SOFA when the charity has unconditional entitlement to the resources.

## _**Tax Reclaims on Donations and Gifts**_

Income from tax reclaims are included in the SOFA in the same financial period as the gift to which they relate.

## _**Contractual Income and Performance Related Grants**_

This is only included in the SOFA once the related goods or services have been delivered.

## _**Gifts in Kind**_

Gifts in kind are accounted for at a reasonable estimate of their value to the charity or the amount actually realised. Gifts in kind for sale or distribution are included in the accounts as gifts only when sold or distributed by the charity. Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SOFA as incoming resources when receivable.

## _**Donated Services and Facilities**_

These are only included in incoming resources (with an equivalent amount in resources expended) where the benefit to the charity is reasonably quantifiable, measurable and material. The value placed on these resources is the estimated value to the charity of the service or facility received.

## _**Volunteer Help**_

The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the Trustees' annual report.

## **Expenditure**

## _**Governance Costs**_

Governance costs include the costs of the preparation and examination of statutory accounts and the cost of any legal advice to trustees on governance or constitutional matters.

11

## **SANDCROSS CHURCH** (A COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE) **NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS (continued) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2025**

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES (continued)**

## **Assets and Liabilities**

## _**Fixed Assets**_

These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year, and cost at least £500. They are valued at cost or, if gifted, at the value to the charity on receipt.

Depreciation is calculated at a rate to write off the cost of tangible fixed assets on a reducing balance over their estimated useful lives charged to the SOFA. The rates applied per annum are as follows:

|Equipment|25%|
|---|---|
|Land & Building|Nil|

No depreciation is charged to freehold property as the property is maintained to such a standard that the estimated residual value is not less than cost. The useful economic life of these assets is so long and residual value so high that any depreciation would not be material. These assets are subject to annual impairment reviews. Provision will be made if there has been any permanent diminution in value.

## _**Liability Recognition**_

Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources.

## _**Debtors**_

Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial recognition at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received.

## _**Creditors**_

The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts.

## **2. TANGIBLE FIXED ASSETS**

Church buildings have been depreciated previously, but the trustees consider that having regard to the ongoing maintenance of the property (the costs of which are charged to the SOFA) it is not appropriate to depreciate the cost of church buildings. Land is not depreciated.

The annual commitments under non-cancelling operating leases and capital commitments are as follows:

Following a post year-end review by the trustees in early 2025, it was confirmed in that these funds were not subject to any external restrictions but had instead been internally designated for specific purposes by the charity. As such, the remaining balances at the year-end were reclassified and transferred from restricted funds to designated funds.

Specifically, the trustees have designated funds for the Pastor’s Accommodation costs and our Children’s Groups. Details of the amounts transferred and now held by the church as designated funds are provided in note 7 below.

**Minister Fund:** Reserves to support the ongoing accommodation, council tax and related costs of our pastor and his family. The Minister's Fund is an amount earmarked by the Trustees, and not donors. Therefore it was reclassified as designated, and the balance remaining at the 2024 year-end was transferred to designated funds.

**Mission Fund:** see Note 5 Grants above for details of Institutional and Individual donations. The missional fund is no longer active as all grants are spent from unrestricted funds. The fund is no longer recorded separately and was closed accordingly in the prior year.

**Children's Groups:** Attendance fee income received for children attending our Play Café and Tiny Tunes groups is used to fund the costs of running those groups. The balance remaining at the 2024 year-end was transferred to designated funds for the ongoing costs of Tiny Tunes.

This includes an estimated provision for council tax for 2026. A further £2,465 was designated from unrestricted funds during 2025 to reflect the increase in estimated costs to early September 2026. The trustees have resolved to extend the Pastor’s accommodation and related support by a further 12 months to September 2027 for which unrestricted funds will be designated when details are finalised.

**Children's Groups:** The designated funds also include a Children’s Group reserve to cover the costs of Tiny Tunes.

No employees received employee benefits (excluding employer pension costs) for the reporting period of more than £60,000 during the financial year. Support was provided during 2024 to our Children’s Groups leader but, as noted in the Report of the Trustees, the support costs of our Pastor are funded by his supporting Korean Churches for which the Trustees are very grateful.

The average number of employees during the year was: 0 (2024 - 1)

## **13. TRUSTEES AND OTHER RELATED PARTIES**

The Trustees have individually made regular donations to the Church throughout the year. No conditions were attached to these transactions.

During the year two of the trustees made lump sum gifts of £40,000 and £5,362.80 respectively, on which Gift Aid has been reclaimed. There were no conditions attaching to these donations.

No other payments were made to Trustees or any persons connected with them during this financial period, other than reimbursement for items bought on behalf of the Church. No other material transaction took place between the organisation and a trustee or any person connected with them.

## **14. PRIOR YEAR ADJUSTMENT**

In the 2024 accounts, a prior year adjustment of £138 was made to correct depreciation that was understated in the previous year due to a fixed asset addition being omitted from the depreciation calculation. This adjustment was recognised directly in reserves and had no impact on the 2024 period's surplus or deficit.
