2. Review of Aims
Clapham Film Unit aims to train and equip local people to tell our own stories on film. We make documentaries and provide filmmaking advice to the community. We provide a network for filmmakers.
3. Recent Activities
We made “Bringing the Archive to Life “ a collaboration with Lewisham Local History Society Museum Archive, Deptford Market, DAGE - Deptford older people’s Group, Lewisham Pensioners and local schools, photographing and exhibition objects from the archive at Deptford Market. Objects were selected by visitors to the market via the photographs. The lockdown meant we had to move the project to online delivery and posting brochures out to participants.
We made “Quest For Peace” short film commissioned by L.S.E. They were di ffi cult to work with, delayed providing a contract, delayed payments, demanded a lot of additional work. We contacted the union, BECTU to resolve the final handover.
We ran “Animate at Home” animation sessions for families in lockdown, delivering art kits by bicycle. This was very successful and was the first project funded by Lambeth Council. We delivered a second series funded by Lottery Local Connections.
We received Heritage Emergency funding from the Lottery Fund to enable all the material gathered over the years to be transferred and backed up to new drives. We were also able to replace and repair equipment which had been damaged. The funds also enabled us to keep going as an organisation, able to pay accountants and insurance.
We received emergency funding from City Bridge Trust which we used to replace and repair equipment which had been damaged over the years. We also ran 4 micro commissions for filmmakers and made a short documentary Nuclear Dawn Rising about the repainting of Brixton’s iconic mural Nuclear Dawn.
We notified all the members of the film unit about funds available for artists during the pandemic. 3 filmmakers made successful applications to the Arts Council which helped them to survive through a di ffi cult time.

We finally moved to a digital banking system and also found a new accountant David Smith as our previous accountant Mr Terfe was no longer available.

## **1 Accounting policies**
## **1.1 Accounting convention**
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with FRS 102 “The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland” (“FRS 102”), “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” the Statement of Recommended Practice for charities applying FRS 102, the Charities Act 2011 and UK Generally Accepted Accounting Practice as it applies from 1 January 2015. The Charity is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The charity has taken advantage of the provisions in the SORP for charities applying FRS 102 Update Bulletin 1 not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows.
The accounts have been prepared on the historical cost convention, modified to include the revaluation of investments at market value. The principal accounting policies adopted are set out below.
## **1.2 Going concern**
The accounts have been drawn up on a going concern basis.
At the time of approving the accounts, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus they continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the accounts.
## **1.3 Charitable funds**
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of their charitable objectives unless the funds have been designated for other purposes.
## **1.4 Incoming resources and expenditure**
Donations are recognized on receipt.
## **1.5 Cash and cash equivalents**
Cash and cash equivalents include deposits held at call with banks.
## **2 Critical accounting estimates and judgements**
In the application of the charity’s accounting policies, the trustees are required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods where the revision affects both current and future periods.

I report on the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 5h April 2021, which are set out on pages 1 to 5.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. .
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
- follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner's report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair view” and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act
have not been met; or
- 2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
