Mid Glamorgan Mission Circuit exists to help people to grow and learn as Christians through mutual support and care, so that each individual will gain confidence as a disciple of the Lord Jesus. As Methodists, part of the world wide Christian community, we in the Mid Glamorgan Mission seek to follow and live out the teaching of Jesus and so to bring all people into the fellowship of the Kingdom of God here on earth.

We do not exist for ourselves, but as we grow and learn as Christians we continually seek to discover what it means to follow Jesus and so to share God’s love with everyone.

We take as our pattern for living the words Jesus taught His disciples to pray, the words known as The Lord’s Prayer, beginning “Our Father”. If God is our Father then everyone else are our brothers and sisters in God’s family. These two words define our relationship with God and with other people.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

To this end we strive to ensure our church communities are places of openness and welcome. The churches that make up the Mid Glamorgan Mission Circuit adhere to the Calling of the Methodist Church, which is to respond to the Gospel of God’s love in Jesus Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.

Inspired by Our Calling, we aim to:

 Increase awareness of God’s presence and to celebrate God’s love
 Help people to grow and learn as Christians through mutual support and care
 Be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice
 Make more followers of Jesus Christ

The Mid Glamorgan Mission Circuit Mission statement is “ to live out and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the Circuit and beyond”.

In the light of all the above statements the aims and activities of the Circuit are as follows, to:

 Nurture confidence in the Gospel and the church’s ability to relate to the post-modern society of today
 Offer opportunity to all for discovering and exploring avenues of faith
 Support the churches of the Circuit as they review

 Be a channel of communication between churches, the Wales Synod and the Methodist Connexion
 Provide preachers for Sunday worship through the quarterly preaching Plan
 Assist in the sharing of information and resources throughout the Circuit
 Encourage the widest participation of all ages in the life of the church
 Provide leadership and advice through the Circuit Leadership Team

All the above activities are undertaken in accordance with the practice and discipline of the Methodist Church and overseen by the bi-annual representative meetings of the Circuit Meeting.

The trustees of The Methodist Church had due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission in compliance with its duties under section 17 of the Charities Act 2011.

This guidance sets out two key principles:

The organisation must have an identifiable benefit.
The benefit must be to the public or a section of the public.

The Church exists, inter alia, to:

increase awareness of God’s presence and to celebrate God’s love;
help people to learn and grow as Christians, through mutual support and care; and
be a good neighbor to people in need and challenge injustice.

The trustees consider that for these reasons the charity meets these public benefit requirements.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year		We have assessed the achievements and performance of the Mid Glamorgan Mission Circuit under the four headings of the “Our Calling” document of the Methodist Church. Worship “We exist to increase awareness of God’s presence and to celebrate God’s love”. The church premises represent our spiritual home and as such the churches of the Circuit continue to maintain, refurbish and up-date their premises as required, recognising that the buildings need to be comfortable, clean, warm and inviting. Through the quarterly preaching Plan, ordained and lay preachers are provided most Sundays to lead worship, with different styles enriching the worship life of the Circuit. During the year we have had ecumenical and Circuit services which have been occasions of great celebration touching the lives of many people in our wider valley communities. It is interesting to note that people in the community will refer to our premises as “their church” even if they are not officially members. All our worship activities help us to express awe, wonder, thankfulness, praise and love towards God. Learning and Caring “we exist to help people to grow and learn as Christians through mutual support and care”. In our Mission Policy we state that “Mid Glamorgan Mission exists to help people to grow and learn as Christians, so that each individual will gain confidence as a disciple of the Lord Jesus”. To this end the Circuit has arranged study days, open to anyone who has an interest in exploring and deepening their faith. In addition, many churches have Bible Study and Prayer Groups on a regular basis. All of these activities are open to members and non-members alike. All our churches are strengthened by the voluntary work of pastoral visitors to assist the ordained clergy in this role. Through baptisms, weddings and funerals, the clergy and church members are able to reach out in practical and emotional support to a wide cross-section of our communities, touching the lives of people at crucial times of celebration or need. Section D Achievements and erformance p “We exist to be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice”. We like to see our church premises as community facilities wherever possible and as such welcome a wide range of community groups into our premises. Examples of public community events across the Circuit this year include: flower festivals, carol services, coffee mornings, strawberry and cream teas, craft fairs, all of which raised considerable amounts of money for various charities. In addition, some of our premises are used by the community for either regular meetings or occasional use, e.g. meetings of AA; local history society, U3A, local health forum, choir practice, polling station, collection point for “Operation Christmas Child” shoeboxes, computer club. Churches are encouraged to think about Trade Justice by using goods and items from agencies such as Traid Craft on church premises and for personal use. Congregations have also responded very generously this year to various disaster emergency appeals as well as supporting national and local charities. We do not exist for ourselves alone but to share the love of God through service and caring on our communities and beyond. Evangelism “we exist to make more followers of Christ” The churches of the Mid Glamorgan Mission Circuit aim to provide warm, caring, welcoming and friendly environments, where we encourage each other and visitors through “friendship evangelism . As we grow in our faith and journey with Christ, we hope to share God’s love with all those we meet, so that they too may come to know the joy of knowing their Lord and Saviour. In the words of a past president of the Methodist Conference, Revd. Tom Stuckey: “the church is called to be the vehicle of God’s tomorrow not the museum piece of God’s yesterday”.

Total receipts in the year were £425,606 which is above the £250,000 threshold for the accounts to be prepared under an Accruals Basis. However. it should be recognised that total receipts were dominated by capital receipts arising from the Sa of properties in the Circuii which concluded in the year. Given this. and the fact that ongoing revenue receipts were snI[anty below the accruals basis thshold, a Receipts and Payments basis has been adopted by the Circuit in the preparatbon of these accounts.
