While our worshipping numbers on Sunday mornings remain at a similar level to last year, it is noticeable that we have a variety of different people attendlng from one Sunday to the next. We are also attracting new people from across the age range. There has been a growth In numbers attending our Christmas services (including our parish carol service), Easter service5, and Forest Church. This reflects the nature of St Peterfs- a church reaching out to the whole community. The 1st Stepping Stones nursery, under Anuta's leadership, is proving to be a real 5ucce551 Bernard and Rachel were ordained to the prlesthood at a joyous servSce at St Edward Romford in September. Rachel took on the role of the lead in chlldren and families mlnlstry. Bernard was Ilcensed as full tlme Christian chaplain at Whlpps Cross Hospital. The new Green Link Walk la 15 mile walk through London's green spaces. startlng at St Peterfs and flnishlng in Peckham) ha5 brough even more custom to our café and has put our church on the map Iliterallyll. This information 15 Stored on Church Desk which is GDPR compliant and where we have a secure routine back up to preserve our data. GDPR Page 4 of 33 In 2024 there was a break in at Peterhouse where various IT equipment was stolen. Although Password protected the information Stored on Church Desk (access via these laptops) was enough for this to be reported as a possible breach to the ICO. The ICO have not taken this further but have recommended various courses of actlons that we need to take to ensure better data protection. Early In the year our Lay Mlnister Sally Holman moved 'up North, and a farewell Service was held and we wish her all the best in her new home. She wlll be sorely missed wlth all the work she has put Into St Peter's over the years especially with the music which continue5 to give great joy to the congregatlon. Sallls baton (pun attended) was temporarily taken up by Debbie Carson and a srnall sub-committee was formed to help wlth the worship music. Governance Early in the year a document wa5 produced by Father Alex re8ardin8 the governance of the PCC. From that the following were discussed., To establlsh flnance and bulldln85 commlttee. Approved. This group met regularly durin8 the year. To establlsh Mlnlstry, Mlsslon and Evan8allsm commlttee: Approved. Soclal commlttee-Approved but no annual budget set Appolnt Outreach Worker- Not approved but to review at a later date. Allocate Mlsslon, Mlnlstry and Evanglisrn of £14,700. The budget is based on a School year. The MME group to come back to PCC to regularly report on how they are progressing and then ascertain a budget for 2025. Approved to revisit in 2025 MME authori5ed to move forward- Approved budget of £SOO to move forward. Budget for Flower Arran8inE Team - this is not required at thls moment in time. To appoint a Muslcal Directorlco-ordinator- Approved but as expensive. it was felt to keep inhouse at present. Debbie to co-ordinate a sub-committee. Page 5 of33 Churchvard Notice Board - During the year a lot of work by George and Brian was around replacing the notice board in the churchyard Icorner of St Peterfs Path and Woodford New Road}? A lot of discussion with the council regarding plannin8 permission, whether required or not. slze of notice board etc.. Thls Is still on-going into 2025. There was a suggestlon of puttlng a temporary structure up between tollet block and Garden of Remembrance to ensure that the council do not strim the area for the gardeners to continue to work hard in that area. The Toilet block wall with the palnting was discussed and an alternatlve use for it was suggested - A Garden of Remembrance wall. A small sub-committee was Set up to oversee this work. Church Audio System: An ongoing issue and It was felt that some people project their volces better than others as well as the hearing aid loop not being conslstent through the nave, Thls Is still ongoin8. Break In - Followlng the break in, the insurano clalm was actively pursued and a suggestlon for ccrv to be installed was investigated. It was also suggested that there are more lights on and around the church. Red Balloon During the year Red Balloon moved out of Peterhouse and payment for hire of hall continued to cause high levels of discussion at PCC meetings. During early summer of 2024 a letter was received from Red Balloon asking for deferral of payment and a reply letter was sent explainSng different payment optlons, however later In the year the Company declared bankruptcy and unfortunately the outstanding amount Is probably not golng to be paid. Peterhouse Sally Lye continues to provlde excellent work In managlng and maintainlng the parish bulldin85 and lettlng5. However towards the end of the year there was a break-ln which caused unease regardin8 the safety of the family living in Peterhou5e flat. Extra Safety precautions were undertaken to ensure sense of security for the famil ChurchDesk wlll be replaced In next two years and Inve5tl8ations are ongolng as to what best system to replace It. PCC members received excellent regular reports on the church finances from the Treasurer. Maintaining a balance of the expenditure against the actual income and forecastlng budgets contlnues to be challenglng and members have appreclated the detalled updates from the Ruth our treasurer. The PCC is 8rateful to everyone who works hard to make Sure that the various services and actlvlties are carried out so successfully. We are also extremely grateful to all people who work in our churchyard, Peterhouse. the church and the cafe to make St Peter's a unique church. Pom Bollen- PCCSecretory Church Wardens Re ort This ha5 been a challenging year for the warden5. We were faced a number of worrying issues and we have been involved in some fire flghtlng. Among these were the liquidation of Red Balloon which left us with unpaid lettings fees of £16,CKIO. This ha5 been to some extent ameliorated by letting to a new and successful pre School nursery, 1st Stepping Stones Nursery School Ltd, run by Anuta Durcan. As the treasurer's report polnts out, the Page 6 of 33 church's finances are heavily dependent un lettinES income. a large portion of which came from Red Balloon and now continues to come from one source. After the demise of Red Balloon we gave thought to the desirability of reducing vulnerability by encouraging a wider range of lettings clients but in the end were persuaded by the urgency of losing our prlncipal source of income to reconcile ourselves to a similar dependence on largely one source. Here we should thank Ruth and Frances for the due diligence undertaken to ensure the financial security and suitability of the new pre-school letting. We have also had to deal wlth several security issues concerning the church and Peterhouse. The break-ins at Peterhou5e and in the previous year at the church have caused us to review systems and equipment, particularly as the Insurance claim for Peterhouse was unsuccessful because of breach of pollcy warranty. We can now report that improvements have been made to physical 5yStem5 and practices to ensure security of both bulldings. This has been expensive as has the loss of equipment not covered by insurance. Steps are being taken to control and prioritise future expenditures. Peterhouse has to be maintained to a level which ensures safety and attractlveness for letting, bearlng In mind that its Income is the principal support for the church and It5 work. Work is progressing on several improvements to the church and artefacts. These include a new notlce board which is now finally being completed by the provlders and wlll be erected shortly. Exten51ve negotlatlon was undertaken with the council to ensure compliance with plannlng rules. Overall, we feel matters are more under control, but much still needs to be done. One big worry remainin8 is the likely arrival of an enormous electricity blll and here on our behalf Frances15 fightin8 battle with the companV5 bureaucracy to try and resolve the problem. Partlcular thanks are due to France5 for all the work and help She continues to provide, and to Rob who provides handyman solutions to many of the little issues which frequently crop up and would otherwlse have to be paid for. Georqe Motshall and 8rlon Cook (Church Wardens) Electoral Roll Thi5 year we were required to renew our Parlsh Elertoral Roll, whlch meant that everyone who wished to be included had to submlt a new appllcatlon. When we last did thls, In 2019, our number went down from 90 In 2018 to 48. Membership increased each year after that, reachlng 59 in April 2024. Normally no one is removed from the roll unless they have either requested It, have died, or have been ordained to the ministry. With this year's revision, those who have lost contact with us are no longer counted. The final number for 2025 is ..... Final number available 4 May) Debbie Corson fElerton71 Roll OAficerJ Page 7 of 33 Curates Re ort Mr Rachel Summers Little Acorns has been relnstated, providing a free morning of play and activity in church for under 5s every Tuesday morning. It includes a bible story and songs, and we light and blow out a candle- as such, it counts as a fresh expressions service, and is entered in our service book. Numbers are not large but it is well appreciated by those attending. It works well to overlap with opening hours for The Rising Son, a5 we don't offer adults a coffee, and they are able to buy one if wished. Forest Rocks- our outdoor Sunday school runs monthly, mostly run by me and occasionally by Mike. It Is now our only Sunday School offerin8, but ensuring it is the same week every month (second Sunday) has resulted in numbers stabilising and beglnning to grow. Creative Eucharist- a8ain, ensuring this is the Same week every month Ifinal Sunday), has resulting in numbers growing for this as well. It has taken some grace and adjustment from the congregation and community, and I know how much this has been appreciated by the families joining us for this service. Forest Church- our Forest Church in April, on Easter Day no less, wlll be our seventh month of operating. Thls runs at 3pm on the 3rd Sunday of every month, again, ensuring this predictability is beginnlng to really notice as numbers grow. We have a regular con8re8atlon at thls. and for many of them It Is the only act of worship they take part In. For them, It is'church. We have two baptisms coming out of this at some point In the summer which is a real joy. I have had 50 much gratitude from this congregation that we are able to offer Forest Church- 'thank you for helping us flnd our way back to church again in a way that works for us., I'm excited to see how this congregation grows not lust In numbers but also in a sense of being church together, Occasional offerin8S- there have been some occasional events that I have taken the lead In runnlng, eg Women's World Day of Prayer, Good Friday actlvities round the flre pit, a Bat Watch and survev, other flre pit activltles. Night Prayer Gang. every Thursday evening I lead night prayer on zoom for a group of parents of kids who have additlonal needs. It's a mixed 8roup of folk wlth a faith and folk without, who are all carrylng a lot and need somewhere to put it. Offering a space for prayer seem5 to provlde something qulte special. My curacy continues to be blessed by the balance of St Peter In the Forest alongslde my mlnistry at St Mary's Woodford. It find It really Ilfe glving to be able to step Into thls special place ID the forest and do church with the folk here. I'm really grateful for everyone's support and care. Fr Bernard Eaton Since the last APCM Fr Bernard continued to Serve the parlsh In various longstanding roles involving outreach. children's mlnlstry. pastoral minlstry - including, initially as a volunteer. at Whipps Cross Hospital. However, the collapse of Red Balloon and the cessation of support for children's mlnistry with which they assisted, eg with Who Let the Dads Out, Little Acorns and our Friday afternoon and evening offers, it was felt appropriate that Rachel should take responsibility for and review our Children's Ministry offers, which she now lead5. Working full time as a Hospital Chaplain with the Bishop's Licence, Fr Bernard necessarily spends fewer weekdays in the parish than before. His capaclty at weekends and after work is fully taken up by pastoral visits and care (including end of life care and bringing communion to our folk when sickl as well as his regular preachlng, preslding and deaconin8 at St Peterfs. In addltion to assisting at ad hoc services here Fr Bernard also provides cover for other churches and presldes there with Alex's full backlng. Of course. he a150 continues to support Page 8 of 33 and attend the PCC and other meetings. HIS mlnistry of pastoral care at the hospital takes in the whole range of a priest's work, including funerals, weddings. baptism, holy communion and other pastoral services. Fr Bernard adds, "l am $0 8rateful to Mthr Sue Diplock and to God for drawing me towards hospital chaplaincy which is both life affirming and splrltually rewarding. Page 26 of 33 Su lementa Curious Wild5 Curious Wilds has been involved in the life and ministry of St Peter in the Forest for the past couple of years, delivering the non-faith aspects of our outdoor chlld and family ministry. This has mostly been through the delivery of a weekly forest school session for under 55 and their parents and carers. This is booked through St Peter in the Forest. and we charge EIO per child, and sell up to twenty tickets. Curiou5 Wilds Invoices the church in order to pay insurance and to fund Rhea, who delivers/assists in delivering these weekly sesslons. Through the cold period of the year, we ger)erally break even Ilf numbers are too low for this, we have on occasion cancelled). Now the weather is nice again, numbers are regularly a sell out. Thls means that there is a regular church activity for families, as well as a weekly income for the church. Several of these families have become more Involved in other parts of the life of the thurch, with crossover into Little Acorns, Forest Church, a couple of baptism enquiries, some Forest Rocks attendance, and many of them coming to our Chrlstmas Eve crlb service. The familie5 appreciate the Rislng Son café, especially the dinosaur blscuits. and there are often toddlers who want to go and explore Snslde the building from forest school on a Friday mornin& which all helps them to feel that It Is 'theirf church, desplte the forest school offerlng not being in any way evangelistic in nature. Re orts Ruehelsummers Snaresbrook Crown Court Chaplalncy St Peter's (along wlth our other MMU partners in mlsslonl continues to be part of the Snaresbrook chaplaincy team, co-ordlnated by Mark Spencer-Ellls from St Mary Woodford. The chaplaincy team provides a weekly Eucharist for the Crown Court and this year, Fr Alex Summers conducted both a remembrance service and a service for Ash Wednesday. She asked for our prayers for the small communlties of Christians in that country who worship in secret and are in fear of the ruling regime. We celebrated our Patronal festival after our service at church wlth a Lunch at Peterhouse, a great tlme to relax and chat. 20th Jul As thls was an Olympic year we had a quiz, we all enloyed testing our knowledge, and we did not have to be an expert at sport. 13th October: was our Harvest parish lunch where we celebrated the bounty of good food available to U5 Wlth a pie lunch. All money made at these events except the May cream tea goes toward our church funds. The members of the Soclal Committee are getting very old and tired. We are extremely fortunate to have such an accomplished musician as Jullan to serve us, not least with the organ voluntaries that enrlch our worship. The church pald Its thanks and said 8oodbye to Sally Holman, who moved away durlng 2024 after leading the cholr and expanding our repertoire with music from many cultures and eras. as a result of her enthuslastlc research and encouragement. With her departure as well as that of deputy organist Davld. we have relled on Julian more than previously. Not only does he play the organ most Sundays, but he also uses the organ's programmlng faclllty to play and set up in advance the music for the days when he is away. St Peter-in-the.Forest produced a well-attended Chri5trnas carol servlce. This was organlsed under the leadership of Peter and Colette Shrub501e, along with Jullan and other members of the cholr and congregatlon. In addition to the or8an, a small group of muslclans, led and organi5ed by Marlan Bradley, provlded the accompaniment. In addition, a great effort was made to attract people from the community to join the choir and this was qulte successful. Choir practlce takes place on Tuesday mornlngs, led by Jullan. A number of people from the community who lolned the choir to sing In the Christmas carol Service have remained in contact. A new member has been welcomed, while a few have moved away. We continually look for people to help us lead the singing at our services. Attendance at practi￿ is encoura8ed but not essential. Jullan has been responsible for ch005ing the hymns for Sundays and, In consultatlon with Alex and choir members, declding whlch settings of the mass will be used from time to time. Our Tuesday opening coincided with the cholr practice, they sUPPOrt the cafe very well. We do have a few very loyal regular customers attending also. Page 31 of 33 Friday opening5 also coincided with the sessions run by Curious Wilds at the fire pit. These mornin8s can be very busy and Sarah. our volunteer. does very well coping with 5u¢h an energetic group. Saturdays we get our regulars and surprise walkers trying out the Greenlink Walk. Some folk get transport to thi5 Part and walk back, others walk the other way round. A5 we usually have such a spectacular show of snowdrops in the churchyard, we opened the cafe the weekend of 24125th February offering a traditional tea and very popular Snowdrop decorated cupcakes. During Lent Elizabeth Peel held an Art Workshop on the Gallery In church, durlng Lent on Frlday5. This attracted regulars from church and some non members of St Peters. The cafe catered for a funeral wake, after a funeral had taken place at St Peter's and at the crematorium. Additionally on a Sunday we opened the cafe for the two weeks of the Art Trail durin8 June. Also, we opened on Sunday afternoon for the local Jumble trail towards the end of June. We did not open extra days for the Open house event but we had a few extra vlsltors to the buildin8. We have been open more tlmes thls year only shutting at Easter and Chrlstmas. This is the church's cafe. It has always been funded by the church. If It Is to open extra times, Sunday afternoons. We need, responsible volunteers from the congregatlon and church membershlp. Just to add we do get requests via email to volunteer, they are thanked for showin8 an interest and asked to come along when the cafe is open to meet U5 and for them to See the church. It is rather frustrating we do not get responses and no one turns up. But remember if you want to welcome folk Into our church one way Is to volunteer at the cafe. I have met some wonderful people who have become re8ulars and loln in events at the church, Why don't you try It? Fmnce5 Downlnq- Monaqer of Ri51ng Son Calé 22nd Walthamstow Rainbows It's been another busy year for the Rainbowsl We now have 14 girls, 4 leaders and a young leader who will be back with us after her GCSES. In the summer term 2024 we worked on our camp badge, including roasting chocolate bananas with Rachel at the St. Peters campfire circle. We also did a couple of trips, to a Ralnbow afternoon at Chigwell Row campsite and to watch Inside Out 2 at a special cinema screenlng for Girl8uidin8 members. Page 32 of 33 In the autumn we did our Explore badge and went on trips to the Zoo and to a Ralnbow & Brownie Day at Chigwell Row. We also celebrated Black History month in Style making carnival head gear, and did a challenge badge 5UPPOrted by Allergy UK to help the girls learn more about managing allergies. So far in 2025 we've worked on our First Aid stage 2 badge, our Feel Good bad8e (about wellbeing) and are about to start on Explore stage 2. 4 girls left to go to Brownles before Easter, 3 received thelr Gold Award, the highest badge in Rainbows. we're very proud of theml Emlly Muqhe5 IRolnbow Leoderj 22nd Walthamstow Brownles The Brownies have kept their numbers steady this year and we are always runnlng a full pack. Badges have again been popular with many 8irls 83ining gold awards before they move up to guides. Brownies went on Pack Hollday this year, for a change to a dlfferent venue and visited Tolmers Actlvlty Centre In Cufley. A lovely slte with some dlfferent activities today on slte the undertook tunnelin& shelter building and pedal carts all which they enjoyed greatlv. The glrls also visited Whipsnade zoo with other units from our Dlvlsion. The trlp was a great hit. The weather was not kind to us but it did not dampen the brownles enthuslasm as they managed to run from one anlmal to another. It Is a very large park the favorlte anlmals being the giraffes, the baby rhlno and mum, pengulns and the otters who put on a great show for us.
