Annual Trustees Report for 2023-2024 

## Finance Report: 

Presented by the Treasurer and accepted with gratitude. 

Further financial contribution to the circuit will be delayed until the cost of forthcoming property repairs is known. 

## Property Matters: 

The Centre Manager spoke to the report, with the suggestion to move from British Gas/Opal/KCCLaser to Octopus for all utilities was warmly received. 

An insurance company contacted us claiming they already insured 50 Methodist churches and circuits. Centre Manager and TE will explore whether there is any case for getting another quotation.. 

Graffiti on the left-hand wall of the entrance to the car park: no-one knew who owns and is responsible for this wall but has now been dealt with. 

The Centre Manager confirmed the problem with the Porch and flood lights lay with the sensors and would get these repaired. The boundary wall is not deemed dangerous, but insurers have a record that it needs regular monitoring. The Centre Manager is liaising with the school over dates for these. 

The issue of security fobs has got out of hand and needed to be tightened up. 

## Formation of Property and Finance Committee: 

The inaugural meeting was held on 23 January. The committee's purpose is to harness the talents, experience, and time of members of the congregation to support the Church Manager and Treasurer in the efficient and effective management of their response to issues relating to Church Property and Finances. 

## Safeguarding and EDI Update: 

There is now an Incident Book in the church office. Both the circuit and the church urgently need Safeguarding Officers. Another evening training session at St Peter’s is planned later in the year. 

## Pastoral Report: 

It was reported that one would approach the current pastoral visitors and potential pastoral visitors to fix a meeting. The church’s membership list needs sorting out, and old lists should be destroyed to ensure compliance with the data protection act. 

It was suggested replacing the welcome leaflet. 

## Worship Update: 

Local Arrangement Services are much appreciated. 

Holy Week and Easter Arrangements were discussed. Worship Leaders’ and Preachers’ course availability was reminded. 

It was felt inappropriate to spend money rebinding the Church Bible unless it had been donated to the church. Renewal of the subscription to ‘Easy Worship’ was agreed. The question of which Bible version should be projected in services was discussed and the NRSV was approved. 

## Community Engagement: 

It has been confirmed for the appointment of the circuit’s third foundation governor for St Peter’s School. Political Meetings Policy: The Women’s Day booking has been accepted after confirming the group had an appropriate policy on inclusion. 

Heritage Day: There was general support for repeating this event on Saturday 14 September. Poverty in Canterbury: It was suggested inviting Professor Jan Pahl to speak as part of a service. Exploration to the revival of the Men’s Luncheon Club, but progress has been delayed due to administrative changes at a possible venue. 



Circuit and Church Mission Review: Churches are asked to identify their top three priorities and possible actions. Questionnaires were issued to the congregation to help determine these for St Peter’s. 

Vacancies in the Life of the Church: 

The church is suffering from a serious shortage of stewards. 

Any Other Business: 

It was suggested appointing welcomers to help newcomers integrate into the community of the church. It was also noted and to asked about the lack of information from Christians Together in Canterbury and to try and remedy it.
