For the benefit of Ihe public, lo relieve the suffering of animals in need of care and attention and in particular, to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the care and t￿atrnenl of such animals. 2. To promote humane behaviour towards animals by providing appropriate care, protection, t￿atment and s8curity for animals which are in need of care or attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstancès or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal w81fare in general and thè prevention of cruelly and suffering among animals. Summary ofthe main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the aclivities, projects or serVI￿S identified in the accounts. Pai8 1.17 and Our fundraising activities and donations from supporters (see next sections) have enabled us to carry out our main objectives ie. to rescue as many unwanted, mistreated and abandoned dogs as possible, give them Iveterinary treatment where ne￿$sary, microchip to | prevent future strays, neulèr and find them new forever homes. We have continued to offer lo lake in animals via stray .kennels and from members ofthe public who could no ,, longer care for their pets. We have also taken on a number of ex-racing Greyhounds due for retirement from their trainerslowners. Our policy remains lo take as many dogs as possible from risk of béing put lo sleep as we I believe they deserve a chance of life. They were given a 'full vet check, vaccinated, scanned for microchips and if appropriate, given necèssary medical treatment. All wer8 either neutered or we provided a free neutèring voucher. l They were also cared for in kennels or by one of our ,,fosterers until suitable homes could be found, Before ', rehoming, polential owners were usually subject to a 'home check to ensure premises were suitable and that Igardens were properly fenced and gated. We had to '.work round this during the Covid-19 pandemic and in i most instances vel referen￿ checks were undertaken .inslead to ensure dogs were being rehomed to responsible owners and wè also made use of Google Earth to check on premises. W8 have continued to adopt I this policy as it has proved to be efficient and successful. Individuals were made aware of the commitment needed to care for the lifetime of a dog and assurances sought that dogs wouldn't be allowed to stray, that they wouldn't be left for extended periods without companionship. that . booster vaccinations would be administered and that j proper diel and exercise would be given. Sandra Longbottom for helping out règularly, advertising our dogs and contributing monies raised from lombolas, car boot sales etc. All the kennel staff in Thorpe Hesley, Wath and Garforth, also Churchfield vels and Donaldson's vets for taking care of our dogs. Numerous regular contributors for their generous donations. Numerous volunteer dog walkers who help exercise our dogs. Helen for fostering Roxy following her major operation Other Achievements and Performance SORP reforence Rehoming of dogs showed some improvement compared lo the previous year however the high cost of living continues to be a factor preventing people from committing to the extra expense of dog ownership. Vel osts and the price of pet food remain very high and we continue to receive numerous calls and emails on a regular basis from members of the public asking us to take in their dogs. Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity's work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. Para 1.20 ' We have taken in dogs from the public and from SDK stray kennels via Jacob's pound. We have also worked with Good Life Dog Rescue IGLDRI and Homeward Hound to try and save as many as possible. In addition, we took in one dog via Barnsley Social SeNices as the owner was struggling to cope. We have also continued to help with the rehoming of ex-racing Greyhounds via the retirement coordinator al a local Greyhound stadium. They are a lovely gentlè breed, easy to look after and make great pets. One dog (Murphy the Spaniel} had a massive lumour al the side of his eye requiring an expensive operation. Another (Roxy the Saluki cross) ame in via a local vet with a badly broken leg requiring an extensive and costly 0￿ration lo pul plates in plus a lengthy period of rest and rehabilitation Our grateful Ihanks go the the veterinary teams for their care and to Helen and the 'Roxy care group" for looking after her until she was fil to be rehomed. Overall, we rehomed 60 dogs during the year, 16 more than the previous year. We would have liked to have taken in more dogs to givg people more to choose from but have been severely ¢onstrained by the amount of available kennel space. In March 2026, Vickie from GLDR secured some kennels in Garforth near to her home and we agreed to house some of our dogs with her which has also helped to increase ov8rall capacity for both rescues and to save more abandoned and unwanted dogs. Our Facebook page has continued lo flourish and is, in part, responsible for the number of dogs finding homes. Facebook attracts many visitors every week, we gel photo's and regular updates on dogs that have been rehomed and is really popular wilh our supporters. The Sighthound Social Club adopted us as their nominated chanty again and have received donations of cash. sardines, pet food and miscellaneous dog i accessories from their supporters. Thanks also go to I Stephanie and Paul at Treats25it4 for their help in storing and distributing donations. We joined the Sighthound Social Club for the Great Global Greyhound Walk again in September and had a stall there with a tombola etc. It was a tremendous success - an incredible 572 dogs Game with their owners, slightly less than the year before bul still making it the largest gathering anywhere in the world. We look forward to being there again at the end of September 2026. Calh, Mark, Claire & Lillie-may from the Greyl Yorkshire Walkers (another Sighthound group) are also promoting | our cause having adopted Greyhounds from us in the past. We met up wilh Ihe walking group at the beginning i of October and they presented us with a large donation i of cash collecled from members during the year. Also thanks to Keith who stepped in to help judge the dog shows. Val arranged a local gala and dog show which we are hoping to do again this year and the team also gave much needed help at the WenMorth and Wombwell events. Julie held I workshop at her home where paying participants made craft items. Janice did partiCLtlarty well making j and selling countless dog biscuit Christmas wrealhs. Ann & Steve have continued to raise funds as well, attending numerous local events. selling goods and ' through regular attendances al partnered Pets al Home I stores. The charity's principal sources of funds lin¢luding any fundraising) Para 1.47 I We charge an adoption f8e for our dogs but taking account of vet and kennel costs et¢, this is heavily subsidised. Kennel Gosls increased again this year and vet fees have also gone up. By taking in some retired Greyhounds we were able to get some financial help from the awners which went towards some of the costs of rehoming and therefore enabled us to maintain lower adoption fees for Greyhounds. The Greyhound Board of Great Britain have also provided backing via the Greyhound Retirement Scheme which is very much appreciated. , Thanks also go to New Lodge Post Office and Lloyds bank in Barnsley {w8 are their "Charity of the year'l for filling collection boxes on a regular basis and likewise lo Greensidè podiatry who also sold got)ds on our behalf. Epworth garden centre and Branslon garden centre have also been supportive, raising money via colledion boxes and helping us to sell goods. We also received donations from our Trustees and regular contributions from numerous individuals. Our grateful Ihanks go to them. We received substantial donations during the year from the Pets at Home Foundation and would like to thank all the Staff for their continued support and generosity. They donated monies we jointly raised during the Santa Paws fundraiser (Give a pet a Christmas dinner) and the Easter fundraiser at our partnered stores in Rotherham, Barnsley and Cortonwood. Finally, we re￿iVed a substantial bequest from the estate of the late Miss Gibson who sadly passed away in June 2024. Our van sustained damage from a falling tree branch during a fundraising event plus it needed substantial work to gel it through the MOT so the ', unexpected funding from Miss Gibson's estate more than covered the additional expense.
