For the benefit of the public, to relieve the suffering of animals in need of care and attention and in particular, to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the care and treatment of such animals. 2. To promote humane behaviour towards animals by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for animals which are in need of care or attention by reason of sickness, mallreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and lo educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelly and suffering among animals.

Our fundraising activities and donations from supporters ' (see next sections) have enabled us to cary out our I main objectives ie. to rescue as many unwanted, mislrealed and abandoned dogs as possible, give them veterinary treatment where necessary, microchip to prevent future strays, neuter and find them new forever homes. We have continued to offer to take in animals via stray kennels and from members of the public who could no longer care for their pets. We have also taken on number of ex-racing Greyhounds due for retirement from their trainerslowners. Our policy remains to take as many . dogs as possible from risk of being put lo sleep as we believe they deserve a chance of life. They were given a Ifull vet check, vaccinated, scanned for microchips and if appropriate, given necessary medical Irealmenl. All were either neutered or we provided a free neutering voucher. ' They were also cared for in kennels or by one of our '. fosterers until suitable homes could be found. Before rehoming, potential owners were usually SLtbject to a , home check to ensure premises were suitable and that gardens were property fenced and gated. We had lo wotl( round this during the Covid-19 pandemic and in , most instances vel referen checks were undertaken instead to ensure dogs were being rehomed to responsible owners and we also made use of Google Earth to check on premises. We have continued to adopt this policy as it has proved to be efficient and successful. ', Individuals were made aware of the commitment needed lo care for the lifetime of a dog and assurances sought Ilhat dogs wouldn't be allowed lo stray, that they wouldn't be left for extended periods without companionship, that booster vaccinations would be administered and Ihat proper diet and exercise would be given. Policy on social investment including program related investment Par8 1 36 We are indebted to our volunteers. They have helped us lo raise fvnds, publicise the aims of our charity and helped to find new homes for our dogs. In particular we want to thank.. Contribution made by ' volunteers Para 1.38 Keith Gill for stepping in as our new Chairman following the retirement of Margaret Burgess Karen King for once again doing a great job on our accounts. Sandra Longbottom for helping out regularly, advertising our dogs and contributing monies raised from tombolas, car bool sales etc. All the kennel staff, also Churchfield vets for taking good care of our dogs. Numerous regular contributors for their generous donations. Numerous volunteer dog walkers who help exercise our dogs. Val, Julie, Sarah, Lindsey, Trish, Karen & Janice who have been very active in promoting our cause, advertising dogs and holding regular fundraising events for us. Rehoming of dogs has remained relatively constant in 2024125 compared to the previous year. The high cost of living continues to be a factor preventing people from committing to the extra expense of dog ownership. Vel costs and the price of pet food rernan high and we continue to receive numerous calls and emails on a regular basis from members of the public asking us to take in their dogs. '. Summary ofthe main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity's work has made lo the circumstances of its ' beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as Para 1.20 We have taken in dogs via Woodhaven, Leeds and Barnsley slray kennels and worked with Good Life Dog Rescue and Homeward Hound to try and save as many as possible. In addition, we have taken dogs via Churchfield vets and Abbey House vets (these would otherwise have been eulhanised) and one dog via Barnsley Social Services as the family were struggling to cope. We have also continued to help with the rehoming of ex-racing Greyhounds via the retirement coordinator at a local Greyhound stadium. They are a lovely gentle breed, easy to look after and make great pets. Overall, we rehomed 44 dogs during the year, just one more than the previous year. We would have liked to have taken in more dogs to give people more to choose from but have been severely constrained by the amount of available kennel space. Other rescues use the same kennels and dogs aren't finding new homes quickly so lurnover is slow. It has been particularly frustrating because we have funding to lake in more dogs if we could get kennel space. Our Facebook page has continued to flourish and is, in part, responsible for the number of dogs finding homes. Facebook attracts many visitors every week, we get photo's and regular updates on dogs that have been rehomed and is really popular with our supporters. i The Sighthound Social Club adopted us as their nominated charity again and have received donations of cash, sardines, pet food and miscellaneous dog accessories from their supporters. Thanks go lo Stephanie and Paul at Treats2sit4 for their help in storing and distributing the donations. We joined Ihe Sighthound Social Club for the Great Global Greyhound i Walk again in September and had 2 stall there with a lombola etc. It was a tremendous success, building on i the previous year. An incredible 687 dogs turned up with their owners, making it the largest gathering anywhere in the worldl We look forward to repeating it in 2025 if the I car parks can take the strain. Claire & her mum Cath from the Greyt Yorkshire Walkers I another Sighlhound group} are also promoting our i cause having both adopted Greyhounds from us in the past. Once again, grateful thanks to our regular fundraising volunteers, Val, Julie, Sarah, Lindsey, Trish, Karen & Janice who were out and about in all weathers at numerous local venues doing tombolas, selling goods etc. and doing car boots. Val arranged a local gala and dog show which we are hoping to do again this year and the team also gave much needed help al the Rabbit Ings event. Julie held a wire workshop at her home where paying participants made wire animal sculptures. Janice did particularly well making and selling countless dog biscuit Christmas wreaths. | The charrty's principal sources of funds (including any fundraising) Para 147 Ann & Steve have continued to raise funds as well, attending numerous local events, selling goods and through regular attendanS at partnered Pets at Home stores. All our volunteers now have smart jackets, embroidered I Wlth our logo and charity details. Thanks go to Keith, Richard Cooper from Wybone and Martin Jeffs from MBS Workfare for their kind sponsorship. We charge an adoption fee for our dogs but taking account of vet and kennel costs etc, this is heavily I subsidised. Kennel costs increased again this year and vel fees have also gone up. We have increased adoption fees for dogs other than Greyhounds but kept this to a minimum. By taking in retired Greyhounds we were able to get some financial help from the owners I which went towards some of the costs of rehoming and | therefore enabled us to maintain lower adoption fees ! for Greyhounds. The Greyhound Board of Great Britain have also provided backing via the Greyhound Retirement Scheme which is very much appreciated. Thanks also go to New Lodge Post Office for filling I collection boxes on a regular basis and likewise to Greenside podiatry who also sold goods on our behalf. i Epworth garden centre have also been sijpportive, raising money via collection boxes and helping us to I sell goods. We also received donations from our Trustees and regular contributions from numerous individuals. Our grateful thanks go to them. We received substantial donations during the year from the Pets at Home Foundation and would like to thank all the staff for their continued support and generosity. They donated monies we joinlly raised during the Santa | Paws fundraiser (Give a pet a Christmas dinner) and the Easter fundraiser at our partnered stores in Rotherham, Bamsley and Cortonwood.
