Para 1.17 and ', Our fundraising activities and donations from supporters l {see next sections) have enabled us to cary out our j main obieclives ie. to rescue as many unwanted, mistreated and abandoned dogs as possible, give them veterinary treatment where necessary, microchip to prevent future strays, neuter and find them new forever Ihomes. We have continued to offer to take in animals via stray . kennels and from members of the public who could no . longer care for their pets. We have also taken on a .. number of ex-racing Greyhounds due for retirement from their Irainerslowners. Our policy remains to lake as many I dogs as possible from risk of being pul lo sleep as we I believe they deseNe a chance of life They were given a ,,full vet check, vaccinated, scanned for microchips and if i appropriate, given necessary medical treatment. All were ', either neutered or we provided a free neutering voucher. l They were also cared for in kennels or by one of our fosterers until suitable homes could be found. Before ', rehoming, potential owners were usually subject lo . home check lo ensure premises were suitable and Ihal gardens were properly fenced and gated. We had lo work round this during the Covid-19 pandemic and in most instances vel reference checks were undertaken instead lo ensure dogs were being rehomed lo .responsible owners and we also made use of Google Earth to check on premises. We have continued to adopt this policy as It has proved to be efficient and successful. Individuals were made aware of the commitment needed to care for the lifetime of a dog and assurances soughl that dogs wouldn't be allowed to stray, that they wouldn't be left for extended periods without companionship. that booster vaccinations would be administered and that I proper diet and exercise would be given. Pafa 1.38 I Policy on social investment including program related investment We are indebted to our volunteers. They have helped us to raise funds, publicise the aims of our charity and helped to find new homes for our dogs. In particular we ', want to thank.. I Par91 38 Contribution made by volunteers Karen King for once again doing a great job on our accounts. Sandra Longbottom for helping out regularly, advertising our dogs and contributing monies raised from tombolas, car boot sales etc. Netherlands kennels, also Churchfield vets for taking good care of our dogs. Numerous regular conlribulors for their generous donations. Numerous volunteer dog walkers who help exercise our dogs, including regulars Keith, Tracey & Lexi. Val, Julie, Sarah, Lindsey, Trish, Karen & Janice who have been very active in promoting our cause, advertising dogs and holding regular fundraising events for us. Their help is very much welcomed and appreciated. Lexy for fostering Boe and giving him a proper loving home until he passed away all too soon. Sharon for fostering Jude while we found a final solution for his digestive problems. She subsequently adopled him and renamed him Bobby. Rehoming of dogs has been mediocre in 2023124. We suspect this is due in particular to the cost of living which is preventing people from committing to the extra expense of dog ownership. Vet costs and the price of pet food remain high and we continue to receive numerous calls and emails on a regular basis from members of the public asking us to lake in their dogs. . Summary ofthe main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity's work has made to .. the circumslances of ils beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. Para 1.20 We have taken in dogs via Woodhaven, Rothetham and Wakefield stray kennels and worked with Good Life Dog l Rescue and Homeward Hound to try and save as many as possible. Vve have also continued to help with the rehoming of ex-racing Greyhounds via the retirement coordinator at a local Greyhound stadium. They are a lovely gentle breed, easy lo look after and make great pets. Of the 43 dogs rehomed during the year, 24 were Greyhounds, however, this is less than the number rehomed in previous years. We know that other rescLtes are in a similar position and as a consequence dogs are staying with us longer and available kennel space is at a premium. Since the beginning of 2024, however, 21 dogs were adopted, around half of the total for the year so hopefully this is a turning point and we hope the upward trend continues. Our Facebook page has conlinued to flourish and is, in part, responsible for the number of dogs finding homes. Facebook attracts many visitors every week, we get photo's and regular updates on dogs that have been rehomed and is really popular with our supporters. The Sighthound Social Club adopled us as their nominated charity again and have received donations of cash, sardines, pet food and miscellaneous dog accessories from their supporters. Thanks go to Stephanie and Paul al Treats2si14 for their help in storing and distributing the donations. We joined the Sighthound Social Club for the Great Global Greyhound Walk in September and had a stall there wilh a lombola etc. It was a tremendous success, around 500 dogs . turned up with their owners and we look forward to I repeating it in 2024. We also took one of our harder to I rehome Greyhounds on their walk in February lo I promote the breed and lo try and find him a forever I home. Claire & her mum Calh from the Greyt Yorkshire Walkers (another Sighthound group) are also promoting i our cause having both adopted Greyhounds from us in I the past. We met up with the group at the end of September and they surprised us with a large donation of cash collecled from members during the year. Additional information {optionall

Our fundraising remained constant and we did numerous car boots, tombolas and collections al several venues including Campsall garden centre, Lakeside, Alhambra shopping cenlre, Pets at Home, Cannon Hall and various local galas. We had a particularty successful evenl at Rabbit Ings Country park where we ran several stalls and also organised the fun dog show. The charity's prirscipal ! sources of funds (including any fundraising) Para 1.47 We charge an adoption fee for our dogs but taking account of vet and kennel costs etc, this is heavily subsidised. Kennel costs increased again this year and vel fees have also gone up significantly. We kept our adoption fees at the same level for several years, ! preferring not lo pul people off adopting bL*I have been forced to increase the fee for dogs other than Greyhounds. By taking In retired Greyhounds we were able to get some financial help from the owners which went towards some of the costs of rehoming and I therefore enabled us to rnantaln lower adoption fees for Greyhounds. The Greyhound Board of Great Britain have also provided backing via the Greyhound Retirement Scheme which is very much appreciated. Staff al Wilkinson's store in Wombwell arranged collections of pet food, treats and knitted blankets on l our behalf. The donations were pul to very good use for our dogs. We extended sincere thanks to all the staff and customers for their support and expressed sadness when the store closed. Thanks also go to New Lodge Post Office for filling collection boxes on a I regular basis and likewise lo Greenside podiatry who i also sold goods on our behalf. We also received donations from our Trustees and regular contributions from numerous individuals. Our grateful thanks go to them. Special mentions go lo Austonley Irish Wolfhounds for Iheir generosity, | Sheffield Sighthounds for sharing proceeds from their raffle and lo Phil Ruston who has a local pel sitting business and conlribules every lime he has a new booking. We received substantial donations during the year from the Pets at Home Foundation and would like lo thank all the staff for their continued support and generosity. They donated monies we jointly raised during the Santa Paws fundraiser (Give a pet a Christmas dinner) and the Easter fundraiser at our partnered stores in i Rotherham, Barnsley and Cortonwood.
