VETERANS IN ACTION LTD (REGISTERED NUMBER: 06715319)

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2021

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 October 2021. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Veterans In Action Limited (VIA) is a UK based charity specialising in the social reintegration of socially excluded HM Forces veterans.

The overriding aim of the organisation is to develop a national veteran support framework centering on the principles of outreach work and adventurous activities, in support of the UK's veterans community.

Therefore VIA organise outreach projects designed to maximise opportunities to firstly identify, then offer support to veterans within a regional and national context.

We have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing our aims and objectives and in planning our future activities. In particular, the trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives they have set.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

Veterans in Action has continued to both grow in size and stature and continues to develop its policies and procedures to maintain this growth, it is very quickly becoming one of the leading charities dealing with Post Traumatic Growth with numerous agencies recognising the great work which is being completed.

Since the last accounts and report the Charity has worked in incredibly difficult conditions to provide support to the local community during the Covid 19 period. This has proved to be extremely successful in raising the profile of the Charity locally, and internationally with exposure on numerous radio stations and national TV news stations. This course of action was initially a cause for concern, but it actually proved to be of huge personal value to the beneficiaries who participated.

During the reporting period, Veterans in Action continued to provide a full service to all the beneficiaries of the Charity. Whilst this proved very difficult at the very beginning of the Pandemic, we could not close the doors of the Charity while those who needed our help the most still needed access to us and have assistance provided.

Veterans in Action continues to meet all its legal duties and requirements as set out by the Charity Commission, this is a course of action which will not change and one which will always remain a priority of the Trustees. We continue to review all legal duties and ensure that we can comply in both a legal sense and morally. We are committed to providing a top class service to our beneficiaries and this will remain the top priority of the Charity and all its employees.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Veterans In Action Ltd ('the Company')

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 October 2021.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

Since your charity's gross income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a listed body. I can confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a registered member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants which is one of the listed bodies.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

  4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
