Bodmin Road Church ha5 served the
Bransholme community since 1968. providin8
a wide range of holistic support programmes
designed to impact the physical, mental.
emotional and spiritual well-being of the
people with whom we work. Bransholme. an
estate 8 miles in perimeter, comprises two
wards. both of whith fall in the bottom 0.5% of
wards on the national indi￿$ of social
deprivation. Over the last 25 years. we have
delivered a wide range of community projects
and servi￿. employing between 4 and 9 staff
at any one time (currently 41. We are a long-
established, grass-roots organisatim with a
fabulous team of experienced staff, volunteers
and trustees. Our unique selling point is the
relational atmosphere and sense of belonging
that pervades our work and our two buildings.
Across those two sites. Church site and
Pennine Centre. we r40rmally have contact with around 150 people each weeK who come in
to enjoy our groups. activities and supp)rt programmes. In short. our aim is to be a for￿ for
good and a Pla￿ of welcome and hope in the local community. meeting the needs of the
whole person through a range of ser¥ice5 and programme5 which are open to all. regardless
of faith.
rall, 22123 has been a smooth and successful year with no major 1￿MP5 in the road. and
no big thanges in personnel. We have seen steady attendance at all our midweek group5
and Sunday service attendan￿ h35 grown. with a congregation averaging around 60. On the
buildings front, the addition of a scooter shelter at the thurch srte was big success, and
across both sites we have gradually transitioned to ec(Ffriendly LED lightin& Our two
buildings are in ex￿lIent shape and remain a valuable resource both for our own work and
for income generation through room rentals.

Total income for the year was
£172.075. arK4 total expenditure was
£157.653. These are true cash flow
figures without any capitalisation or
depreciation element. There wa5 an
excess this year partly because we
lost, and have not immediately
replaced. a member of staff, but
over a full cyde we will spend every
penny reorved. maintaining onty
such reserves as are required by the
Charity Commission. As this report is
being typed, we do in fact have an
advert out for a new position. Not
immediately replacing this staff
member also helped to offset the
massive spike in energy prices which
everyone suffered in this perlod.

who made donation& THANK YOU! We are also working hord to generate income ourselves
and the income split for the year (combinin8 both sites) is shown in the pie chart above.
It is important to note that we are an independent
church. operating without any denominational
supporL We are therefore entirely responsible for
our own financial management and sustainability.
All decisions are made "on the ground" by our own
fully-involved twstee& whith allows a flexible and
dynamic approach to both opportunities and to
challenge5. All ring-fenced 8rant funding for
community projects is or course managed separately from the ordinary church finances.

deal of our community project work,
covering overheads like utilites and

AcllviTIES
Both our Church site and Pennine site latK)Ut a mile away
in a different part of the estate) are open as muth as
possible durin8 the week fvnrtioning as dropin
community facilities. Specific artivitte5 are then timetabled
for particular times (see box). The Church site also has an
under-5s soft play area.

The two toddler groups and tharity shop are run by
volunteers. Salaried staff are workingto support those
artivitie5 as well as runnwig other groups and providing
one-to-one mentoring and home VISI￿ The Toddler
Groups are full and have grown again through w(xd of
mouth alone. The Charity Shop is inundated with
donations and making an excellent contribution to our
finan￿. as well as providing the community with cheap
goods and dothes.
The Men's Group, targeting particularly older rnen. m05t of whom live alone, has gone from
strength to strength this year. We are seeking to combat loneliness and encourage posittve
mental health. Table tennis. pool and darts are popular. a5 well as quiet conversation over a
coffee.
We expected the Carers. servi￿ to lose its C￿nCil fundin& but in the end, fvndin8 was
extended till June 2023. fina was therefore able to continue that work running groups and
home support. The Knit and Natter groups have been popular and well-attended all year.
The Debt Support has expanded from I momin8 per week to 2 mornings. It is run by
separate professional organisation, Igntte Communities, in retum for a grant whith we pay
to them on 3 qltarterly basis. Demand for their services is high and the team offers benefits
advice alongside the work on debt and budgeting. We have committed a significant Spend
from our reserves in order to put this work on a firm footing (xrt till April 2025. We were
able to do thi5 because our reserves figure had grown higher than our reserves policy
requires. and this is an example of our earlier-mentioned commitment to spend our
resources serving our community. and of the way in which our Trustee5 manage the budget
in a manner which allows us to commit to new opportunities, wf)tlst safely covering our own
risks in line with Charity Commission guidance.
Overall. it has been a steady and successful year which has seen many live5 touched and
strengthened in many different ways.
