As a PCC, we have spent lime reflecting on the 'Truscott report,. and particularty the
changes that we need make to transition Sl John's from 'being a good church into a great
church,.
In January we had a vision day with the PCC and staff team 11 Is was wonderful to hear the
encouragements that included..
The pow&r of the Holy Spirit al work al SJC
The partnership wrLh Alilla and Adele in Romania
The Thursday Generation working with those primarlly over 75

Teaching, Worship and focus on Child￿n and Youth

A church full of families, single peop18 and couples and a whole range of ages
Our diversity and devotion lo Jesu5
The roorn for the prophetic
We have been exploring our values as a church:
1. Everybody is Welcomo.. We recognise that welcome is far more than just good
inlenlions.11 is a heart attitud& that impacts every aspect of Sunday, from the lasle of
the coffee. lo the slate of our loos. lo who w& chal lo. and in ensuring that we
prioritise our guests.
2. Make Filends: Al Sl John's we want lo bg a churth, not just that you come lo. bul
you are part of it, where you long lo come lo, because11 is a place whgie we make
lifelong friends.
3. Bulld Great teams., Rather than servtng out of a sense of guilt we want lo make wr
teams lo be life giving and fun, where we can grow. slep out in faith and know that
we are making a difference.
4. Develop Posltive Partnershlpi. I hop8 Ihal St John's acts as a ¢ataly5t for
partner9hlp$ across th8 ￿tY wh8re we can b8 a springboard for misslon and mlnisty
lo impact our community partnering with churches and organisatSons that we may
see the Klngdom of God grow.
5. Llv• Generously.. Not only is generosity al the heart of the Gospel but it should be at
the heart of our Church. We long not only be hospitablg bul generous, and that bwll
mean that we wlll also have lo consid&r how own personal givlng 8nabl88 us to grow
and flourish as a churth.
6. Have lalth wlth d••p roots: Fabth wllhout acllon 1$ meanirtgless. Dlsciplashlp.
community and mlsslon go in hand. Being in accountable sm811 groups lo work
out how we grow as followers of Jesus 1$ oss8nlial.
7. Encount•rs wlth Jesus: We wlll Inlenllon811y build In 8p8ces lo our programs 8nd
services so that we can bo empower8d by Ihe Holy Spirit lo become Ilke Jesus. This
includes, Encounter Evenings and Kingdom Come.
8. Everyon• Matters.. I would lovo everyone not onty to feel valued, but to know that
everyone has a role at Sl John's. we all h8v8 a p8rt lo play. You will be mi886d if you
can't make il in a Sundayl To quot& John Maxwa15, the author speaker and pa$lor.'
'Every person has a longing to be part of somelhSng noble and purposeful,. Thls is
your opportunity.
Whllsl the￿ Is much to give Ihankg for there arg also a number of key ch8118nge5 golng
forward. th81 if left unaddressed will hinder the fuiur8 growth and life of SJC.
1. Income.. In 2024 unfortunately, there was a signffjcanl drop laround 13.hl of income
malnly due lo a reduction in regular giving. We have invited everyone lo consKier
their regular glving. We are seeking an extra £50,000 of Income.
2. Planned maintenance and inv8slmenl. The Church building is an arnazing resource.
However, we wll need 19 not only bring il up to me81 th8 current legislative
quirement5 (such a5 adequate fire protection measures) but also lo invest in
planned maintenance and renewals.
3. Teams.. As we many churches we over reliant on 8 few angels who cary 80 much.
The Inwlalion that I have given is that ev8ryone gets to play- everyone is vit81 in the
kingdom ofGod.
I want lo say thank- you lo the fantasllc staff team, the paid members of staff, Clare, Ruth,
Andi and Derrek, and to the unpaid membgr5 of staff, Celia, Mary, Viv and Nicky. We are so
blessed lo have such a great team. We have also said good bye lo Ewan, Jo and Sarah.
they are all greatly missed and thank them for all they have done over the last year.

Yet of coursè, l also want lo thank 8very one of you who plays a part in eath and every
leam. whether that be sorving coffee. bglng on a klds team, S8Tvlng our dder generatfons
on a Thursday, helping at Relresh, serving our communlty at Messy Church, Familie8 at 4
nd Kaleldoscope and on every other team, together we are the body of Chrfst brlnging
good news and hope to the cty of Colche5ter.
