Vlcar's Report
I wanl to begin by giving Ihonks. The past year has brought moments of joy. challenge. ond
quiet failhfulness. ond through it all we trust that God has continued lo work in and through
our parish. It is a privilege to serve alongside you.
I wanl to express my deep gratitude to our churehwardens. whose steady leadership ond
good humour have supported both me ond Ihe wider congregation. Especially to David
Groombridge who is stepping down this year but has worked incredibly hard for us all. My
thonks also go to the PCC for their Ihoughtful govemance, and to our many volunteers
those who read. pray. sing. welcome, clean, garden, count. teach, visit, ond quietly keep
the life of the church moving. Much of whot sustains our parish is unseen. but never
unnoticed.
The worship paltem of our church is lorgew unchanged. The Book of Common Proyer is used
on Sundays at 8am (Hoty Communion) and al 6pm IEvensongl and once a month on
Wednesdays at l 0.30am Ifirsl Wednesday in the monthl. Common Worship (with modern
English) is used at our main loom Holy Communion services eoch week. At our 10am main
seNice we ore on average between 90 to 110 adults ond some 20 to 30 childrenlyoung
people. Attendance at 8am Hoty Communion s between 10 and 15 people most weeks.
and Evensong is between 15 and 20. The Wednesday congregotion numbers be￿een 20
and 25 people each week. and for mony who attend on a Wednesday. it is like Iheir

"Sunday serwce" and forlhis reason we don't see them on a Sunday. The church has
continued to grow. and we have seen new member5 join us. However in recent years many
hugely talented and committed church member5 have gone to glory, and thi5 has
impacted our capacity as o church. There is an urgent need for us to nurture and grow
younger talent in the church.
The choral tradition continues to be at the heart of our worshipping lrfe with traditional hymns
and the eucharist each Sunday. apart from the fami￿ seryice once a month. Our music
direclor. Luke Green has continued lo bring great commitment and energy to this role.
Michael King has continued to do a steding job os our Organist and our Choir continues lo
enrich our worship. The Music Group conlinues to support the Famity Services that happen
once o month. We are blessed to have such a talented musical team.
Our work amongst children and young people and families has continued to flourish. We are
most grateful to Shery Snowden. Efttabeth OIu-Garrick and Stephen Toylor-Hunt who hove
looked after our young people as volvnleers. We are glad to have We￿OMed K8lvin Shabee
as our new Youth Minister in Seplember and his contribution.
Our children's groups have continued to flourish and Ihonks go to the leaders of these
groups; Kim McLachlan's for Sundoy Club, Vicky Cox for Messy Church. ond Fay Wyatt for
Sunbeams. Our thanks also to Moggie Tumer for the children's craft lables during family
service5. The 14th West Kent Boys Brigade and Girls Association hos continued to go fomard
under the leadership of their Coptoin Andrew Church.
Our Saturday moming café. Josle's Vintage Café, hos continued to go from strength to
strength. There hove been many weeks when Josie's Café hos been full up ond it has been
hard lo find a spare seat. Our other community outreoch initiatives- Wednesday lunchtime
concerts. knilting group, craft group. the lodies meeting ond our monthly church services in
the care home have continued to thrive. Our thanks to the leaders of these
groupsfinitiotives.
Our links with the local community ￿rna1n strong. We are engaged with oll of the schools in
the parish ILift Bexleyheath. Townley Grommor. Upton, Uplonds. Crook Log. Gravel Hill) and
this include5 the taking of assemblies. schoots visits to Ihe church ond Christmas
nalivities/concerts. The Guides have Sad￿ left us. but the Beon Road Cubslscouts are still
much engaged with us.
It has been a privilege to walk with fomilies through many boptlsms. weddings, ond funerals
that we have had. These moments remind us of the breadth of our ministry and the trust
placed in the church at significant points in people's lives.
We should pause for a moment and remember those sainls in our church that left U5 for glory
in 2025- Patricia Dyer. John Richords. Melody Salom. and Shidey Rumsey.
We are all blessed to have such a talenled ministry team who have continued to help with
the preaching and the wder ministry of our church. Our Licensed Lay Ministers ILLMS) Marilyn
Ormes. George Johnson and Yvonne Fowler hove continued to preach regulorty. mari￿n
organises our visiting team for these who can't get to church and home communion. Our

Iporish lunchl-
Vicky Cox has continued to do a great job as our parish administrator church office. working
'Ihe extra mile 'on many occasions to deal wtlh various things thot have come up and
emergencies. Our thanks also go to Tony Duck for keeping the grounds looking so tidy and
to Ros and Francis fibbles for their work wilh ttie flower beds. Our new treasurer. Elisabeth
Petchey, has done really well picking up from where Glenda left off. Huge thank5 are due to
Elisobeth who has taken this on os o volunteer and we should all be mindful that this role
takes several hours each week dealing wilh the finances of the church.
The life of the church is greally enhanced by the provision of refreshments ond food at many
of our service5 and events. We are very blessed lo have Jane Hilless. who heads up our very
committed calering teom who look after many social events including the Parish Lunches
that are much loved. We should also acknowledge our lolented team of flower arrangers
who make the church look so love￿.
The redevelopment project IBuilding Our Future or BOFI has moved forward with a grant of
£25K from centrol church that the Diocese has received for developing yoposols to
redevelop the site. Outline plans have been drawn up ond a pre-app ts being prepared for
submission to Bexley Council in 2026.
We continue to ensure that we create a safe place and o sofe church for all who come lo
us. We have the necessary Safeguarding information on our church website, and this subject
is a standard item on the agenda of the Porochiol Church Council IPCCI meetings and also
of the Mintstry Leadership Team IMILT). Vicky Cox has been our Safeguarding Officer.
Christ Church Bexleyheoth continues to be a growing church. and we simply could not
manage lo do all that we do without the support of so mony who volunteer and do so much
to help and support the life of the church in ils various minislries. A huge thank you to
everyone who helps in whatever way- however great or small.
As we look to the coming yeor, I believe we ore being called to deepen our discipleship.
strengthen our welcome. ond continue seNing our community with compossion. My hope is
that we will grow nol onty in number but in faith. generosity, ond joy. l am confident thal God
will continue to guide us as we seek to be a church that reflecls Christ's love.
It continues to be a huge privilege me to serve here at Christ Church 8e￿eyheQth as
Vicar. I look foword lo many blessings as we continue to grow Ihe life of the church and go
forward together in failh ond love.
In Christ's SeNice.
