Structure, governance and management
The trustees who served during the year are set out on the first page of The Methodist
Church Standard Form of Accounts which are attached to this report.
Objectives and activities
In accordance with the foundational documents of the Methodist Church and the United
Reformed Church. Our purposes are the advancement of:
a) The Christian Faith as understood by the Methodist Church and United Reformed
Church.
b) Any charitable purpose for the time being of any denominational, local or any other
organisational level of the Methodist Church or the United Reformed Church.
c) Any charitable purpose for the time being of any society or institution subsidiary or
ancillary to the Methodist Church or the United Reformed Church
d) Any purpose for the time being of any charity being a charity subsidiary or ancillary
to the Methodist Church or the United Reformed Church.
In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission guidance on
public benefit at our trustee meetings.
Achievements and performance
The year has seen a gradual return to a full range of church activities, though with reduced
numbers attending which are only slowly approaching previous levels. This has had an
impact on our income, both through reduced freewill offerings during worship and the
smaller number of hirers of the premises. Both of these factors are being addressed in our
regular Church Council meetings and the meetings of the Finance and Property Committee.
Sunday worship services have been held every week with a monthly morning and evening
Communion Service for an average of 55 attendees. Those unable to attend are offered the

opportunity to view the morning services live via Zoom for those who are not able to attend
in person, and an edited version of the service is available after the event.
The membership stands at 128. Members are kept in touch with Church News through the
quarterly In Touch magazine and all members and adherents are visited in order to pass this
on. The Pastoral Team also ensure that members are visited in times of particular need.
Activities
There continues to be a great deal of contact with the local community though the shop,
which is open at least three days a week, through Saturday snacks and through special
events. We have a close relationship with Trinity Care and Support which hire our premises.
A team from Trinity holds a monthly Communion Service in the local Dan-y-graig Care
Home.
Our members have been very active in supporting Methodist and U.R.C. charities as well as
other appeals in the areas of relief, development and well-being.
The Church is an active member of Churches Together in Porthcawl, which in the process of
building up a fuller programme of events.
Challenges for the coming year include building up attendance at regular meetings, adopting
new patterns of working as part of the Bridgend United Area, with new ministerial staff
members, and bearing a larger proportion of the Area costs following the reduction from
eight to seven churches.
Financial review
The unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2022 are
shown in the attached Standard Form of Accounts. The accounts show a deficit for the year
of £30,158 which has been funded by our reserves. The Finance Committee has drawn up an
action plan aimed at increasing our income and making cost savings where possible with the
objective of returning the charity to a surplus position as soon as possible.
