CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022
The chairman presents his slalernent for the year.
2022 was a strong year for FINCA UK 85 we continued lo see growth in fundraising, exceeding our financial tsrgels and
maintsining 8 healthy pipeline of fuluie funds.
We hit a key milestone. secuiing FINCA UK'S first muhi-year 6-figure grant, supporting our work investing in eady-stage
social enterprises. We also saw gifts in kind and pro-bono support increase. Unrestricted cash income has mostly been
from the support of FINCA UK Board members, with smaller additional support from a handful of donors.
It is also worth noting that as well as the recorded income on the FINCA UK annual accounts, FINCA UK has helped to
secure additional funding from UK and European donors directly to programmes, including a multi-million Euro results-
based finanang award from a European funder, and a five-figure grant FINCA Zambia from a UK foundation.
One additional exercise that we carried out in 2022 was to increase the size and diversity of our Board of Directors. We are
looking fon￿ard to these highly experienced professionals joining FINCA UK in 2023 in our mission to support the world's
poorest people.
We extend our gratrtude to 811 of our partners and supporteis and to our h8r(Iworking te8m. We have rnade some good
progie5S this year, and we hope to continLJe this success Into 2023 8nd beyond. Thank you for your continued support.
In mtmoriam
Sadly, in November, we leamed the heartbreaking news that our founder, visionary leader and dear friend, Rupert Scofield,
passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Rupert believed the world to be rich in potential but lacking opportunity.
He was convinced that that the cycle of poverty could be broken by investing in the untapped wisdom, talent and work ethic
of those we serve through social enterprise and financial services. He maintained that innovative and revolutionary thinking
is needed to help people see beyond how things are to how they could be.
Rupert's leadership led lo so many innovations. from Village Banking to the first global rllicr0flnan￿ financial consumer
protection standards. He helped 811 of us realize the potential of the miciofinan￿ movement, while leading FINCA into
developing social ènteipiises that expand access to energy, water and sanitation, education, health, agriculture, and
rintech. His encouragement and support inspired so many to pursue careers around financial inclusion and soaal
enterprise. Here at FINCA UK we promise to continue Rupert's excellent work, and continue to grow his legacy.
