Aims and Objectives The aim of the Newcastle upon Tyne District of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel af Gad’s tove in Christ and to work in partnership with others te fulfil our calling. Thus the District will seek to suppor. encourage. challenge and equip Circuits. Local Churches and individuals lo~ at underpin all activities with Ged-ventred worship and prayer: bd) promote a culture ia the Church which is peaple-centred and Mexible: ct make and nucture disciples who have confidence in speaking about their faith and in engaging in evangelisnr: d} engage in communnty development acts of loving service and action for justice: and e} veniure into fresh ways of being church The Methodist Conference further gave direction to every Distnct to produce a District Mission Plan to give facus 10 the above, District Mission Plan 2020 "The calling af the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of Gadl's love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.“ The purpose of the Neweastte upon Tyne Methodist District ss “to resource focal charches in fulfilling Our Catling” Through the District Mission Plan (DMP) the District aims wo resource local churches to be more fruitful in: Worship Evangetism Smatl Group Discipleship fuwilt seck to achieve this through A process of retlecting back 1o Cireuit Leadership Teams on the Mission (Le. Growth or End ofLife) Plans that local churches and circuits produce. The establishment ofa "District Evangelism Team” with a particular focus on urban priority areas. rural areas, fresh expressions and the Together project. The appointmentofa “Worship Working Party” (o consult widely in order to help the District discern how we can suppor an improvement in the quality of both congrgational and small-group worship and what resourcing is needed to help churches implement this. Working with Superintendent Ministers and Circuit Leadership Teams to seek the best way to suppor the development of small groups which promote faith development and church groweth. The DMP will be regularly updated With its implementations and achievements achics ements. The September 2018 Synod appointed a District Leadership Team from amongst the District Officers to ensure that the District fulfils its purpose. Synod appointed a District Community Engagement Enabler in September 2019 10 further enhance its goals in all that we do remember that Gad is with us. that we seek to serve God alone and make disciples of Jesus Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit 2 ~~ Achievements and performance The District docs not seek and, in large measure, does nat attain direct contact with the public. Under the heading “Collaborative arrangements with connected charities” (3.3 below) there is information on how we obtained our funds. In this paragraph we show how they were spent. The money collected, or availabte for dissipation. was used as grants to support Churches and Ciceuits throughout the District with their work in their lecal communities and te subsidise the administrative costs of the District. TMCP acts as custodian trustec for all real estate held by<br>Districts and for all large (over 20K ) hequests and for the proceeds of sale of any propeny formerly owned<br>by the Distric., These sums are invested in unitsed investments or held on deposit, The investment<br>returns are close lo uacking the movements in the FTSE100 index. The deposit income mirrors the<br>deposit rates available elsewhere Newcastle District trusices’ investment poticy is aligned with that of the<br>CFB and TMCP because these organisations take toto consideration the social. environmental and ethical<br>consideratuns. both negatively: and positively. that make investments suitable for the Methodist Church<br>Shon term deposits are lodged directly with the Cenual Fmance Board (CFB) and atiract good rates of [interest]<br>**----- End of picture text -----**<br>

3.3 Collaborative arrangements with connected charities The Distriet’s main source of funding is the assessments obtamed from each Circuit witht the Disotct based on the membership and staffing levels of the Circuit and this was used to defray most of the cost of administering the District, The sum amounted to £59,654 (2019 - £617 400) The Dastnct oblamed from each Circuet with a reserve, known as a Circuit Medel Trust Fund (CMITF), a levy based on the size of the Circuits’ CMTFs at the start of the conmexionat year (1st Seplemtecr). In 2019/20 this sum was £70,165 and was credited tu the District Advance Fund The District ufse obtained an allecation trom the Connextonal Advance and Proper Fund of £138,593. This fund as obtained from a lesy on all property sales of Methodist property The District holds no funds as custodian Trustee It does. however. quarterly receive from Circuits

- The District is largely risk averse but, especially in making granis to endues embarking on new and ymaginative initiatives. the District is prepared to underwrite considered risks Distnets do not need their own risk register because most of what is covered tn the Connexienal Risk Review will be the same for the Distnet. The Connextonal Risk Review has just been updated in the hght of Covid-19 so it is even more relevent and we can refer‘defer to it 

- § Structure, governance and management The District is ap unincorporated associaion and 15 governed by the Methodist Church Act 1976. the Deed of Union and the Medel Trust Deeds of the Methodist Church and was registered with the Charity Commusioners on 21st January 2004 The Trustees are appoinied from within the Distinct as and when the aeed arses and appointments are approved by Disurci Synod. 

- 51 StructureCircuits are the coordinanng charittes for local groups of Churches, Circuits pay the stipends of the ministers and employ tay staff to serve the Churches in the Circuit, most decisions are made at of raiified by the half yearly Circuit Meeting. A District is the coordinating charity for a group of contiguous Circuits and makes its decisians at half yearly synods The Methodist Conference mezis ance each year as the supreme denominational body for all Methodist Churches. 1. Overall regulatory authority rests with the Methodist Conference 2. The Connexional Office implements decisioos made by Conference and is also responsible for the stationing of presbyters and deacons (collectively known as ministers) in individual Circuis within the District. 

- 3. Connextonal decisions are passed to the Chair ofthe District and the appropriate officers of the 4.
