The trustees who served during the year and up to the date of this report are set out on page 1. ## **Objectives of the Charity** Objectives of the charity are: - For advancement of the Christian faith, to include worship of the lord Jesus Christ, to conduct religious sacraments and services as necessary, in accordance with the faith and practices of the Mar Thoma church ( parent church ), in particular, but not exclusively. - To advance the Christian faith, in particular but not exclusively, by engaging in missionary and other charitable Christian activities. - To or for such other charitable purpose as the executive committee may from time to time determine. In alignment with the traditions of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church in Malabar and guided by the visionary leadership of Abraham Mar Thoma, Tabore Mar Thoma Church remains steadfast in its mission. Our primary objective is to provide regular Christian worship services to the members of Mar Thoma churches residing in the diaspora within our region. Additionally, the church is dedicated to offering pastoral care and organizing a variety of activities aimed at nurturing the spiritual life of our members. Furthermore, we are committed to fostering strong ecumenical relations with the local community, embodying the spirit of Christian unity and cooperation. As part of our mission, Tabore Mar Thoma Church actively engages in making voluntary contributions to support churches, evangelism, and charitable endeavors both in the UK and India. Moreover, we strive to inspire and empower individuals within our parish to actively participate in evangelistic efforts, fulfilling the Lord's call to be witnesses to the world. We offer our prayers and support as they embark on this sacred journey of leadership, knowing that their steadfast commitment will strengthen and enrich the spiritual life of our church. ## **Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church** Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church otherwise called as Mar Thoma Church in a shorter form or Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar ,which is a part of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. is one of the ancient Churches in the world. It is traditionally belived that St. Thomas (Mar Thoma in Syriac), the disciple of Jesus Christ came to India in AD 52 and established the Church in the Malabar coast. Kerala is known as Malankara in those times. Being rooted in the Bible, the Church maintains its Episcopal heritage and value oriented democratic form of administration. The Church believes in Jesus Christ, the God incarnate for the redemption of humankind, and in the Triune God revealed by him, who himself is one among the Trinity. The Church cherishes its oriental heritage and Episcopacy as a gift of God. The Church accepts Holy Bible as the basis for all matters of faith and doctrine, and the Nicene Creed formulated in accordance with the Holy Scripture. The Church is regarded as a ’bridge’ church in the Ecumenical world. The Church is at present blessed by the able leadership of twelve Bishops and is headed by Most Rev. Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan who is the 22nd Malankara Metropolitan to occupy the Holy Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas. The Church is served by 1184 clergy through fourteen dioceses to 1.6 million people (approx.).The headquarters is located at SCS Campus, Thiruvalla, Kerala, India and has over a million adherents spread worldwide. The Church actively participates in the programs of the World Council of Churches, the Christian Conference of Asia, the National Council of Churches and the Kerala Christian Council. It is in full communion with the Anglican Church, The Church of South India and the Church of North India and has cordial relations with the various denominations of the Christian Church. The Church actively cooperates with the C.S.I. and the C.N.I. through CCI (Communion of Churches in India). ## **Diocese** Our parish has been part of the Diocese of the UK, Europe, and Africa of the Mar Thoma Church since January 1, 2024. Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Ivanios Episcopa serves as the Diocesan Bishop. Prior to this, we were under the UK-Europe Zone, and our Bishop was Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa. Our parish wholeheartedly supports the development initiatives, charity activities, and mission needs of the diocese. Nearly 100 church members participated in the Mar Thoma Kudumba Sangamam organized by the UK and Europe Zone. ## **Our Parish** Tabore Mar Thoma Church Manchester (UK) is one of the parishes of Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar which has been established in 2007 with the approval of Synod. Tabore Mar Thoma Church was registered as a charity organization in Manchester, England (Registration No. 1127602) and its registered office & vicarage is at 195 B, Mount Road, Gorton, Manchester M18 7GG. Own church was acquired in December 2018 & the sacrament of the parish was conducted on 19th of October 2019, by LATE LAMENTED HIS GRACE THE MOST REV. DR. As they embark on their journey to serve at the Edakkara Mar Thoma Church in Malappuram District, Kerala, we extend our prayers and best wishes for their continued ministry. We thank all the members of the General Body for participating in these meetings and for their valuable suggestions for the betterment of the parish. ## **Kaisthana Samithi** The Kaisthana Samithi met on 10 occasions including 2 emergency committee to transact important matters concerning smooth functioning of the parish. We believe that all the Kaisthana Samithi members are chosen by our Lord Almighty to serve the parish. The members spend considerable time organizing the various activities of the year. All members over the age of 18 constitute the general body of the church. During the reporting year 2023-24 many families have joined our church and constituted our membership to 195 families as on 31st March 2024. ## **Area Prayer Groups** We have 9 area prayer groups & Around 160-plus families are active members of the parish, Prayer groups plays an active role in the Spiritual nourishment of our members. We are grateful to all those who have supported the financial need of the church. This year we got £49868.00 as subscription. ## **Offertories And Collections** Offertory collections during every worship service and special collections for any special events will serve as primary sources of income for the church. Both contributions are voluntary and made by members to meet the needs of the parish. ## **One Day Income** This voluntary contribution from members signifies their gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon them by God. Each salaried member is encouraged to share their one day income with the church. This year, the collection took place on March 10th. ## **Anduvary** This is a contribution from the members to the Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association for its missionary work. ## **Recessa & Uposhanam** Recessa represents the yearly payment by each adult member of the Mar Thoma Church which is remitted to the Sabha Office whereas Uposhanam is the sum contributed by the members from the savings generated by fasting during the Passion Week which is sent to the Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association. ## **Suvishesha Nidhi** This fund is utilized for the missionary activities of the Diocese. The active participation of the area prayer groups in this collection is appreciated. ## **Diocesan Collection** This Collection is utilized for the All the activities & day by day expenses of the Diocese. ## **Parish Convention** This year's Parish convention was held from September 22nd to 24th, 2023, at Tabore Mar Thoma Church, Rev. Sanoj Babu Mathew Achan, the Vicar of Bristol St. Thomas Parish, was our main Speaker ## **Charity** A portion of our proceeds is dedicated to supporting various charitable endeavours, benefiting individuals and communities in need, both locally in the UK and in India. Our commitment to charitable work extends to partnering with Rochdale Council for local charity initiatives within the UK. Charity Aid by Sevika Sangham: £1,750 (Please refer notes under Sevika Snagham) ## **Family Sunday & Parish Day** This year, Family Sunday was celebrated alongside Parish Sunday on November 12, 2023. We were honored to have Fr. Anoop John K from Sheffield as our esteemed chief guest, who delivered a profound message during the Parish day celebration. As a symbol of our collective dedication, families are invited to contribute a special offertory and join in Holy Communion together with all their members. ## **Merit Awards** Students who scored Highest Marks in GCSE ,A-level examination were honored by cash prices on the Parish Day celebration. This year 3 students for GCSE & 2 students for A-Level got the merit award ## **Family Retreat** The parish's three-day family retreat was held from September 1st to 3rd, 2023, at Castle Head, Cumbria. Based on the theme 'Surrender & Let God Work,' Rev. Thomas Baby Achan and Rev. Abu Cherian Achan conducted classes & for Smart Heart. Professor Dr. Cecil Thomas also gave a lecture. ## **Harvest Festival** The parish's Harvest Festival for this year was a joyous occasion, celebrated on both the 10th and 24th of September 2023. During this festive time, members from all prayer groups enthusiastically contributed the first fruits of their harvest. These offerings, symbolizing gratitude and abundance, were collected with heartfelt generosity. The proceeds from these first fruits play a crucial role in supporting various initiatives and endeavours within the parish community. Through the collective efforts and generosity of our members, the Harvest Festival serves as a testament to our unity, stewardship, and commitment to serving one another in love. This year We raised approx. £9205.00 ## **Door to Door Carol Rounds** This Year under the leadership of Parish Vicar Thomas Baby Achan, the parish organized a door-todoor Christmas carol service from November 24th to December 16th, 2023. With the assistance of various prayer groups within the parish, we were able to visit homes in different areas and share the Christmas message. This year, we collected approximately £6541. ## **Christmas Carol** The parish's Christmas carol service was held on December 24, 2023, at 2:00 pm under the chairmanship of Rev. Thomas Baby Achan. Both the Senior and Junior choirs of the parish performed beautiful songs. Our esteemed chief guest, Rev. Dr. M.J. Joseph (Keekozhoor), delivered the Christmas message. ## **Watch Night /New Year Service** Watch night /New year service was conducted on 31st December from 9.30 p.m. onwards at our church. Rev. Dr. M.J. Joseph (Keekozhoor) led the service and the New Year Holy Qurbana. Approximately 215 members attended the Service 7 ## **Tabore Mar Thoma Church, Manchester** ## **Trustees' Annual Report** ## **Year ended 31 March 2024** ## **Lent & Passion Week Services** Lent worship services were conducted from mid-Lent, on March 6th, at 8:00 pm via an online platform. These services were held every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday during lent until passion week. Many families participated in this service. Sandhya Namaskaram during Passion Week was conducted at our church. Our vicar, Rev. Thomas Baby T, lead the Sandhya Namaskaram, Maundy Thursday Holy Communion, Good Friday service, and Easter Sunday Worship. ## **Onam Celebration** We celebrated Onam as a Parish to revive memories of the Maveli Nadu, vibrant flower fields, fluttering butterflies, OnaSadya served on the tushanila, and the dazzling Chingapulari. This year's parish Onam celebrations occurred on the 16th of September at the Sale Moor Community Center in Sale. The event was highlighted by the active participation of parishioners and various folk art performances. ## **Guest Speakers** During this year we were privileged to have the following eminent speakers to share the Words of God Dr. Sunny Stephan Rev. It is good to sing praise to our God; it is pleasant and right to praise him. This year new choir members has reformed after Voice test conducted on 26th March. Church has been registered under DSMC. Choir is assisting for church service on every Sunday. We have every Sunday choir practice session regularly which is led by choir leaders. Our Choir has Senior & Junior Choir Group. Junior Choir Group always assist in English Holy Communion Service every 1st and 3rd Sunday. Choir members has partake for the Holy week service where we had Lent Meditation and our Guest Speaker was Dr Sunny Stephen renowned Music Director and Founder chairman of World peace Mission. Choir was blessed by Choir workshop by Mr. Thejus George Palooran (Choir Master) on 20th May 2023.Choir has actively participate on church Onam programs where they sing a song .Christmas Carol choir practice started on 20th August 2023 online and later after church service. Choir members has participated for the Choirs of the UK Europe zone a virtual choir in presences of Diocesan Bishop Rt Rev Dr Issac Mar Philoxenos. Christmas Carol service was on 24th Dec 2023 which was held under leadership of church choir, a blessed service for congregation. All this was under guidance and support by our Achen Rev Thomas Baby and family. Our special gratitude and thanks to Achen and family . Choir is assisting for church service on every Sunday. We have every Sunday choir practice session regularly which is led by choir leaders. Junior Choir Group always assist in English Holy Communion Service every 1st and 3rd Sunday. ## OFFICE BEARERS The office bearers of 2023-2024 were: 1 Choir Leader : Mr. Joji Mathew 2 Asst. Choir Leader : Mrs. Tessy Abraham 3 Choir Secretary : Mr. Sam Varghese 4 Choir Master : Mr. Thejus George Palooran ## **Edavaka Mission** “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” Luke 6 : 35 Tabore Mar Thoma Edavaka Mission, Manchester successfully completed another blessed year by the abundance grace and guidance of our God. Following the decision made on January 28, 2024, it has been decided that every 5th Sunday after the service will be designated as the Edavaka Mission meeting. This initiative aims to enhance communication, spiritual uplifting and collaboration within our Church , fostering a stronger sense of community. ## **Sevika Sangam** 2023-24 has been a blessed year for the Sevika Sangham. The office bearers remained unchanged from the previous year as per the election meeting. Susan Parayil led the Sevika Sangham as the Vice President and was supported by Elizabeth Jacob as the Secretary and Rojy Santosh as the Treasurer. The Sevika Sangham meeting was held on the 4 th Sunday of every month after the Holy Qurbana service. In our previous monthly meeting held in January, it was decided to hold a monthly prayer meeting in each prayer group are. The first meeting was held on 10 th February in the Ashton/Stockport area. Our members also participate in the Sevika Sangham UK/Europe weekly chain prayer. The zonal Sevika Sangham one day conference was held on 7[th] October 2023 in Birmingham church. Around 15 members participated from our church and 5 of them took part in the bible quiz and won the 2nd prize. We also celebrated Sevikha Sangham day on 17th September 2023 – members assisted with the worship service and Sunita kochamma delivered a powerful message from the word of God. We also led the coffee shop following the service. As per previous years, we continue to actively raise funds to participate in various charitable deeds throughout the year. This year we held a pickle sale and a Live Dosa fest – through these we raised almost £800. From this, we donated £250 to the Salem Childrens Home in Tiruvalla and £500 towards the renovation of the Shanti Nagar church in Andhra Pradesh. The report showcases the dedication and commitment of the teachers, student support staff, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to nurture and educate the children in the ways of the Lord. Through various activities, lessons, and events, the Sunday School has strived to instill values, faith, and knowledge in the young minds, preparing them to be strong and faithful followers of Christ in the future. Throughout the year, the Sunday School organized a wide range of engaging activities, all of which were skill-fully overseen by Rev. Thomas Baby Vicar and President of Tabore Mar Thoma Church The Sunday School plays a crucial role in nurturing our children and fostering their spiritual growth. It convenes every Sunday following the holy communion service, providing a consistent opportunity for our young ones to engage with their faith. The Sunday School has an outstanding enrolment of around 165 students attending regularly, with all of these children having their parents complete electronic registration. Sunday School is proud to offer 13 classes, each one led by dedicated and enthusiastic teachers. We are proud to have a team of 42 dedicated teachers, who are supported by our strong student mentors, to nurture and guide our future generation in their journey of faith. It is important to note that all our teachers have undergone thorough background checks through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to ensure the safety and well-being of our young students before they begin their work with them. These educators put in a great deal of effort to make sure that every child receives the necessary guidance and support to enhance their comprehension of religious teachings and principles. Sunday School commences immediately after the conclusion of the holy communion service every Sunday, except for the fourth Sunday. On this Sunday, Sunday School will commence at 13:30 hours, prior to the holy communion service. Starting in April 2024, there will be a change in the schedule for Sunday School. Following Holy Communion, Sunday School will now take place every Sunday, as there will no longer be Holy Communion in the afternoon on Sundays. Furthermore, children will have the opportunity to lead the congregation in prayer, showcasing their involvement in the spiritual aspect of the community. This will be followed by a common session led by senior children, who will deliver a brief speech on various topics. As part of the Sunday School routine, there will be an offertory collection and announcements made before the children are dismissed to their respective classes. This structured approach aims to provide a well-rounded experience for the children, incorporating both spiritual and educational elements into their Sunday School sessions. Tabore Mar Thoma Church Sunday School adheres to the curriculum established by the UK Europe Zone, and we administer the UK and Europe Zonal examinations in accordance with this curriculum. Our academic year runs from September to July, providing students with ample time to delve into the rich history of the Mar Thoma Church. 10 ## **Tabore Mar Thoma Church, Manchester** ## **Trustees' Annual Report** ## **Year ended 31 March 2024** Through the study of the Mar Thoma Foundation and Vision, which are integral components of the Diocesan curriculum, children gain a deeper understanding of the historical and spiritual significance of the Mar Thoma Church. This comprehensive approach to education ensures that students not only excel academically but also develop a strong connection to their faith and heritage. We concluded our academic year with final examinations held with the presence of invigilator arranged by Zonal from Liver pool Carmel Mar Thoma Church on July 2nd 2023, and each classes conducted mock exams before the final exams with the preparation of children to get very good grades. During this exam, students who achieved first, second, and third place were recognized and awarded for their outstanding performance. This acknowledgment serves as a source of motivation and encouragement for all students to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits. ## **Students Dedication:** On Sunday, September 10th, 2023, we celebrated Student Dedication Day, where all the students wore white and black attire. A special dedication prayer was held for each child as they embarked on their new academic year. It was a meaningful and inspiring event that brought the school community together to support and encourage the students in their educational journey. Senior students will be assisted to Rev Thomas baby on this dedication prayer. ## **Teachers’ Dedication:** The teachers at Tabore Mar Thoma Church showed their dedication on September 17th 2023 by participating in a special prayer ceremony. All the Sunday school teachers gathered to sign their covenant on that day, committing themselves to guiding the children on the right path and instilling in them a fear of God. Special prayers were offered for the teachers, asking for strength and wisdom as they continue their important work of educating the youth in the ways of faith and righteousness. ## **Onam and Sunday School Sports/Games:** Despite the unfortunate cancellation of the original Sports Day scheduled for July 8th, 2023 due to inclement weather, a successful event was eventually held on September 16th, 2023 at the Sale moor Community Centre and the adjacent park. The entire event was meticulously organized under the supervision of Teachers Mrs. Kripa John, Mr. Sanoj M George, Mr. Koshy Thomas, and Mr. Aji Varghese, who efficiently coordinated all the sports activities throughout the day. A total of 250 participants, including adults, actively took part in the various sports competitions, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. Following the conclusion of the sports program, prizes were awarded to the first, second, and third place winners of each competition, fostering a sense of friendly competition and acknowledging the hard work and dedication of all the participants. ## **Teachers Retreat:** All Saints Mar Thoma Church, Peterborough has successfully organized the 2023 Zonal Teachers Retreat, which took place on September 30th. Despite facing some last-minute sickness and other commitments, a total of 10 out of the planned 25 teachers managed to attend the event. The retreat proved to be highly beneficial for the participating teachers, providing them with valuable insights and knowledge. Additionally, those teachers who were unable to attend expressed their desire to be a part of such retreats in the coming years, recognizing the value it brings to their professional development. ## **VBS 2023:** The Vacation Bible School (VBS) organized by TMC Sunday School was held in Heywood, Oldham from October 26th to October 29th, 2023. The central theme for this event was 'ROOT AND FRUIT’, inspired by the biblical verse "Once more a remnant of the kingdom of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above" from Isiah 37:31. With an impressive turnout of over 130 children, the VBS proved to be a truly enriching experience for all the young attendees. The dedication and hard work of the leaders, along with the support of 56 teachers and student assistants, contributed to creating a memorable and educational environment for the children. The teachers went above and beyond to bring back the nostalgia of their own childhood and make it relevant and beneficial for the younger Mar Thoma generation. The children thoroughly enjoyed the various activities and sessions organised during the VBS. From engaging processions to interactive lessons, the teachers made sure to captivate the attention of the young participants and instill valuable lessons rooted in faith and spirituality. The event not only provided a platform for the children to learn and grow but also fostered a sense of community and togetherness among the attendees. As the VBS ended, the positive impact it had on the children was evident. They not only gained knowledge about their faith but also developed important life skills and values. The success of the VBS can be attributed to the collective effort of the organizers, teachers, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to create a nurturing and enjoyable environment for the children. Special thanks to our Catering team. ## **World Sunday School Day:** Tabore Mar Thoma church hosted the World Sunday School Day on November 4th 2023 at Liverpool Birkenhead school, with approximately 150 participants from our church and a total of 500 attendees from the North zone different churches. The event featured sessions tailored for children, parents, and teachers, providing a comprehensive experience for all participants under the supervision of Mr. Siju George Zonal Secretary and manger by Mrs. Tessy Abraham, Head Teacher. A dedicated team, led by Mr. Varughese P John, worked tirelessly to organize food for all the attendees throughout the day, ensuring everyone was well taken care of. The success of the event was greatly attributed to the hard work and support of all the teachers involved, who played a crucial role in making ## **Annual Exam Prize Distribution:** Students who achieved first, second, and third place in their Sunday school exams, which took place on July 2nd, 2023, were presented with trophies on November 5th following the holy communion ceremony. We take great pride in our diligent students and the unwavering support of their parent . ## **Mar Thoma Meet Participation:** The Mar Thoma meet took place in the Midlands on November 11, 2023. During the event, our children from the Sunday school were given a wonderful chance to showcase their talents. They presented a delightful singing performance and captivated the audience with an engaging action program during the public session held in the afternoon. ## **Charity Gift Collection.** The Wood Street Charity received an overwhelming number of gifts from our children during the Christmas season, which proved to be a remarkable achievement. Thanks to the unwavering support of parents, we were able to gather an impressive collection of items, filling up almost an entire van. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who encouraged their children to participate in this noble cause. The immense effort put forth by everyone involved in making this event a success is truly commendable. ## **Mid Year Exams:** The mid-year Sunday school examination covering 10 chapters was administered on Sunday, January 28th at 1pm, just prior to the commencement of the holy communion service. ## **VBS Directors Training:** The Tabore Mar Thoma Church Sunday School team experienced another moment of pride as they had the privilege of hosting the VBS Directors Training at the White House on March 8th and 9th, 2023. The event was attended by 30 delegates, including Reverends from each parish, along with their families. The team received appreciation for their hard work and dedication in ensuring the success of the program. It was a collaborative effort that involved the entire team working together to make the event a memorable and fruitful experience for all participants. ## **Talent Contest:** On the 17th of February 2024, we organized a talent contest that saw an impressive participation of 105 children. The event was graced by esteemed judges from Liverpool Carmel Mar Thoma Church and Birmingham Church churches. It was a moment of joy and celebration when, on the 14th of April 2024, we awarded the winners of the contest with their well-deserved prizes. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the generous contributions made by our church members, who selflessly supported us in meeting the financial aspects of the event.
