## **BROMLEY METHODIST CHURCH ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING AUGUST 2025**

The Church Council submits its Annual Report and Accounts for the year ending 31 August 2025.

Members of the Church are Managing Trustees of the Church, and the ordinary general meetings are held three times per annum. Day to day administration of the Church is delegated to the Church Stewards and the other officers, including the Treasurer, and to a number of committees, including Finance and Property.

The number of members at 31 August 2025 was 116.

The purpose of Bromley Methodist Church is to glorify God, proclaim the Gospel and seek to win people for the Kingdom of God

- To nurture and care for those who are committed to Christ

- To extend pastoral oversight to the church’s wider family

- To promote Christian values

- To respond in the name of Christ to contemporary issues

- To share a vision of the world church

The following is a summary of the main activities undertaken during the year in pursuit of those objectives:

**Worship** : The Church meets regularly for acts of worship, the weekly 10.30 am service on Sundays averaging 75 adults, 8 children and 5 young people. The service takes the form of Holy Communion once a month and All Age Worship once a month (with occasional attendance of the uniformed organisations). The services are led by the Bromley Circuit Ministers and Local Preachers.

The Church also holds mid-week prayer meetings on a Thursday with average adult attendance of 12. This attracts some of our elderly and more infirm members who cannot attend on a Sunday. This is led by both the local Methodist preachers and members of the Church. Once a month a special service called Soul Space is held for those on a dementia journey and their friends, family and carers.

The Church has hosted special services called SENsational Church, which provides interactive, multisensory worship for those with SEND and their families.

**Pastoral Care:** Revd Karen George continues to take pastoral charge of Bromley Methodist Church. Karen is supported by a team of Pastoral Visitors whose work is overseen by the Pastoral Committee. There are 2 house groups which provide opportunities for fellowship and study for church membership. Bible study courses with other churches in the Circuit have been held at Bromley. Members are supported in prayer by a team of intercessors who will pray for requests from congregation members and the local community.

**Service:** The Church seeks to make itself available to the local community. It is open on a Thursday morning for coffee, fellowship and prayer. The Church also has close links with uniformed organisations which meet weekly on Church premises and participate in regular ‘Parade’ services. At the end of the July, the Scout group meeting on the premises closed and merged with another local group. This was due to lack of leaders. Rooms are also made available for the use of a wide range of groups and organisations (including local Alcoholics Anonymous and Bromley Drug and Alcohol Service). During the year, several collections of food and toiletries were organized in support of the Bromley Borough Foodbank. Since January 2021 the church hall has been used during term time by an independent Preschool. Over the school summer holidays Stay and Play sessions were organized for local families. These were well attended and much appreciated.

**Mission and Outreach:** Members of the Church contribute to the mission work of the Methodist Church, both overseas and at home, through regular giving and by special fund-raising events. The Church has continued to support overseas mission work and a range of charities working at local, national and global level (including Bromley Young Carers, Action for Children, Bible Society and Christian Aid) as well as providing significant financial support for Bromley Town Centre Chaplaincy. Local schools visited the Experience Easter initiative held at the church.

**Ecumenical:** The Church is actively involved in the Churches Together in Central Bromley group. During August we shared services with the local Churches in Bromley and we participated in joint activities for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and on Good Friday.

**Social Events** : During the year the Church held a number of social events, including some as charity fundraisers and some just for fun and fellowship.

**Property:** Our policy continues to be maintaining the fabric of the premises in good condition. Our fire alarm system has been replaced and brought up to the necessary standards. The downstairs toilets have been refurbished.

**Finance:** Details of the church’s financial affairs appear in the attached accounts. Normal church activities resulted in a profit of £32,262.

Revaluation of our investments resulted in a gain of £3 and our Reserves stand at £198,837 compared with £198,834 at the end of the previous year. The Church Council is satisfied that the Church's Reserves are adequate to meet the Church's obligations and to allow for the future development of its work.

**Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities:** Charity legislation requires the Trustees to prepare Financial Statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity as at the end of the financial year and of surplus and deficit for the period. In preparing for the Financial Statement, suitable accounting policies are to be adopted and consistently applied to the best of the Trustees’ knowledge and belief, making reasonable and prudent judgements and estimates as necessary. The statement of Recommended Practice for Accounting by Charities is to be followed, together with applicable Statements of Standard Accounting Practice. The Trustees are responsible for maintaining accounting records, for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and for preventing and detecting Fraud and other irregularities. The Trustees are also required to indicate where the Financial Statements are prepared other than on the basis that the Charity is a going concern.

Bromley Methodist Church Signed on behalf of the Trustees College Road Bromley Wendy Whybrew BR1 3NS Secretary of Church Council
