SORP reference
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Shirley Methodist Church has continued to offer weekly Sunday worship to an average of 80 people in the congregation, a few on zoom, as well as providing a community for around 160 adherents in total. The premises are are popular and hired at reasonable rates to local community groups. The Christmas Carol service was popular and attended by the wider community. A one-off event the Tree Festival exhibited Christmas trees made by a wide range of local community groups, and drew together disparate parts of the community and neighbourhood. The following activities took place during the year: • The ‘In Touch’ Pastoral Scheme continues to offer pastoral support to members and adherents throughout the year. • Special one-off events included the Great Book Sale, which drew crowds from a wide region. Apart from selling second-hand books to raise money for the church, the event also offered tea, cake and fellowship to the local community. • Our support for TWAM (Tools with a Mission) continued, enabling tools and equipment to be donated and put to good use in the world’s poorer communities. • Donations were made to Christian Aid, and also to NCH Action for Children and the Leprosy Mission. • We have continued to support Shrublands Foodbank throughout the year. |

Financial Review
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 |
Receipts have grown slightly which is pleasing. Due to our temporary bank account closure, the payments appear lower than they should be. However, even when all payments are eventually made relating to this financial year there will be a slight surplus. So we are in a good financial position to carry out our charitable objectives. |
|---|---|---|
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 |
General funds are held for any legitimate general expenses which the Trustees approve. We aim to have reserves in order to meet normal expenditure during the next six months. This year the reserves are currently larger than in the previous year, as due to our temporary bank account closure, some payments could temporarily not be carried out. Restricted Funds are held for the Minister to give to deserving individuals at their discretion, plus a small sum used for any expenses. |

Unfortunately, the bank account closure will also Impèct on the accounts for 2023-24 as finar¢cial performance for that year will be affected by the 2022-23 costs that had to be paid.
