STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Strueture
Hurst Festival was incorporated as a private limiled company (No 6565917) on 15
April 2008 and commenced activities on that date. The fimds of the Hurstpierw)int
nd Sayers Common Arts Festival so¢i¢ty were transferred to the company at that
date. Charitsble status was granted on 9 January 2009.
The company has applied to the Charity Comission for conversion to a Charitable
Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and the outcome of th&t application is awaited.
Governing doeument
The Hurst Festival is controlled by its governing document, its memorandum and
articles of association ineorporated 15 April 2008 as amended by special resolution 6
January 2008.
Risk management
The In￿teeS have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the Hurst Festival is
exposcd and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable
assurance against fraud and error.

A comprehensive risk and controls review exercise was conducted by Trustees in
2019 and updated in 2022-23 to reflect Cu￿ent circumstances and experience with e.g.
the pandemic. It is the intention to fornially review risks and controls every 3 years.
ORIECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
Hurst Festival's principal objective is to organise and produce an annual festival for
the benefit of people of all ages in the community of Hurstpierpoint and Sayers
Common.
2024 Festival
During the year, the trustees oversaw tlie holding of the 2024 festival which took
place from 14 Sept¢mber to 29 September 2024. The running of th¢ festival v
delegated to a s¢parate festival committee chaired by Colin Matthews, with the
services of a new festival manager Susan Eskdale.
The objective as always was to achiev¢ a balanced programme with Income
generating events alongside community events which required funding but with little
or no income. aiming also for sponsorship and donations so 05 to achieve a small
surplus if possible, The festival held in September 2024 resulted in an overall SUTpIus
of £20501 (cf a deficit of £819 the previous year) principally driven by a one-off Post
Cod¢ Lottery grant of £15000. Trustees intend to use this Lottery 8rant money for
longer t¢rni improvements which will benefit the Festival over many years, for
example a better web51te and ticketing system. The funds carried forward at 30th April
2024 arnounted to £46819.
The policy of the trust¢¢S IS to maintain the reserves of the company at ca. 6 months
of expenditure, to enable future festivals with a wide range of community events and
also to provide for futur¢ conlingenci¢s.
