The funds of the Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common Arts Festival society were transferred to the company at that date. Charitsble status was 8ranted on 9 January 2009. Governing document The Hurst Festival is controlled by its governing document. its memorandum and Brticles of association in¢orporat¢d 15 April 2008 as amended by special resolution 6 January 2008. Risk manqgemeDt The trustees have a duty to idenlify and review the risks to which the Hurst Festival is ¢xposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
A comprehensive risk and controls review exercise was conducted by Trustees in 2019 and updaled in 2022-23 to fleet current circumstances and experience with e.g. the pandemic. It is the int¢ntion to fomially review risks and controls every 3 years. OWECTIVES AND AcfiviTIES ObJeetive8 And aimy Hurst Festival's principal objective is to organise and produce an annual festival for th¢ benefit of peopl¢ of all ages in the community of Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common. 2023 Festival During thc year. the trustees oversaw the holding of the 2023 festival which look place from 16 September to l October 2023. The running of th¢ festival was delegated to a separate festival committee chaired by Colin Matthews. The festival manager was Katherine Jackman. The objective was to a¢hieve a balanced programme with income generating events alongside community events which required funding but with little or no income, aiming aEso for sponsorship and donations so as to a¢hieve a Small surplus if possible. The festival held in September 2023 resulted in an overall deficit of £819 (cf a deficit of £3046 the previous year). Th¢ fimds ¢arri¢d forward at 30, April 2023 amounied to £26318. No restricted funds remained at that datr, the small sum of £154 carried forward from the 2022 year having been drawn down during 2023 for winding up of the Music Club. The policy of the trustees is to maintsin the reserves of the company to enable future festivals with a wide range of community events and also to provide for future contingencies. I report on the attached accounts of the Hurst Festival for the year to 30 April 2024
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As trustees of the Hurst festival you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

follow the procedures laid down under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act), and * to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
