Objectives and aims
Our vision.. BailitTgaie Museum and Gallery- Heritage at the Heart of the Community.
Our Mission is to be a People's Museum, preserving and celebrating the heritage of A]nwick and district, and to provide an
excellent community, educational and tourist resour¢e.
The specific aims of the charity are as follows..

- to interpret the history, culture and lat]dscape of North Northumberland, and Alnwick and District in particular,
to siage a varied and constantly changing programme of exhibitions, showcasing the work of local and national artists,

CHAIR'S REPORT
Exhibitions
This yeaT we decided to hold four exhibitions over the year, one of which, Childhood, was an internal exhibition. This wa5 our
most profitable exhibition of the year and demanded a huge amount of Work from the volunteer ieam. The exhibition was
inspirational and tull ol'fun for the m￿Y lainilieb who visited.
Fusion Textiles- Lost Words
It was ¥Teat to welcoine back the group of textile artists who belong to Fusion Textiles. Their blend of art15ts gave u5 eXqUlSIte,
challenging and sometimes qiiirky ivork. New people, followers of individual artists and those with a keen interest in textiles loved
thi5 inspirin¥ eclectic exhibition when they visited between 10 September and 27th October 2024.
A sleave unravelled- 29th Oetober- 2nd Febrnary
Sue Bowhay PTingle's work, also textiles, provided such a stionbF coiittast to Fusion. Her largFe -5cale pieces wei"e reflective and
thought provoking. The Carefully Chosen mixture of recovered silk and fine fa￿7¢$ with their special links and memories were hand
Sli￿7)ed using a ra]ige of techniques and bkills Ironi einbroidery, to quilting and applique. Sue's love of fabric and the iactile nature
of her work fascinated and intrigued visitors to the exhibition.
Gillian Lee Smith broubTht Lost and Left behind 4th February -30 M#rch 2025. A short video of Gillian at work wa5
watchcd many timc8 throughout thc cxhibition with many vi8itors including local arti%t8 rcturning timc and again to %cc thc
exirdordinary portraits and imageb (Tillian Lrealed. Many of (tillian's portraits were worked and reworked many limeb. Some of the
paintings, had bleach within the paint,. they were Iiaunting and captured a seiise ofloss keenly well ￿ tliey visibly faded during the
exhibition. One of Gillian's worksliops brought togcth¢r young poets from the local High School to create a sjnall volume of i￿Ork
in response io her arl.
People Make Alnwick, a five-year programme thnded by Community Lottery to develop VL)lunteering and work skills in the
coinniuiiity was launched. The project teaTn devised an exciting progtainnie of Lominunity involveTlltnl to make people aware of the
gTant and thc opportunitics it offcrcd. Two national pocts workcd with gyoups of local ￿0p]e on 3rd Octobcr, National Poctry Day,
to write and perforrn a poem for Alnwick in one day. In Novernber local groups enjoyed silk painting workshops where they created
IlllilbFeS of Alnw'ick Market Pldce. In ddditivn, local art15tb met to discu&s tlieir wurk, a 'NIuseuin vf Ordindry Things, Wdb set up in
tlie Market Square and the exliibits and associated Stories were cap￿red online. The }'ear continiied with several workshops and a
speLial event celebrating International Women's Day. Local people were inpited 10 talk aix)ut iheir memories and stories of life in
Alnwick. Aiound 420 people were enbaged in these events, 64°/o of whom had not be£n involved in Bailiffbate before, ELnd artists
were given 24 days of employment.
Alongside this, the team developed a new strategy to aitract and work wilh volunieers which is ready to roll out in the second year
of the programme.
Events
This year, our volunteers were involved in a wide range of events including an o￿n event for teachers, Alnwick Town Council
Volunteei Fair in April, Heritage Open Day in Septembei and Al￿￿.1¢k Gardens careets, fair.
Loans boxes
Loan5 boxes went to schools a5 far afield as Berwick. Widthin¥ton, Shiney Row and Thropton.
Storyfesr
Bailiffgate hosted two talks for Storyfest on 1st March..
Jake Morris-campbell, well krt0￿￿ poet in conversation with Katherine Rentoi), local artist.. Between the Salt ai)d the Ash
James Braxton, TV personality in discussion with Mark Hobrough) local musician and antiques dealer.. Antiques, Mysiery and
Mischief. The talks were gold out and were very well received.

The Dei'elupmtni fund aW(￿ded by The Naiion(Il Lotttry Httilage Fund INLHFknabled us to employ consult￿15. lo drnw up
detailed plans for restOTing North￿nbe[la￿d Hall, creating at]d testing out designs for liousing the pern]anent collection and
fostering community work. It also allowed us to create a five-year business plan and to test out assumptions about audience groups,
sustainability ol. tlie museuin aiid a ivhole host of meltsures tlidt would enable us to build a rebilient dnd lasting visitoi attraction to
bTing Alnwick Town Centre lo life. I'olullteers alld consultants worked tirelessly to prepare and submit the work the outcome5 of
the development phase in support of an application to NLHF to fund the implementation of the project.
Cirant Funding
The Arcl)itectllral Heriiage Fund provided financial support to help with the many surveys that were neded ro check on the
condition of Northumberland Hall and Northuinberland County Council supported us fvlly throughout the development Stage and
whcn crcating a bid for Bordcrland Funding to providc additional funding for Bailiffgatc's r¢stordtion of Northumbcrland Hall, a
key element in the regeneration of Alnwick's Town Centre.

FINANCIAL REVIE1¥
In the Swear ended 3 1st March 2025, Ihe charity had unrestricted net eX￿nditUre of £41.173 before transfers and restricted funds had
total net income of £7,743 before transfels.
At 3 1st Mareh 2025 the ctmrity's unrestricted Eunds were £120,560 and its unrestricted net current assets were £114.578. Restricted
fund5 totalled £181,880 of which £113,472 represented the net book value of tanbTible fixed assets.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The BailitTgate Nluseum and Gallery is a regstered charity and a company limited by guarantee as defined by the Coinpanies Act
2(N)6. Under the ineinoranduin and article5 of association with whicli the organisation is goveTned, the trnstees have control of the
charity and its property and funds.
Recruitment and appointment of trustees
Twstees are elected ai each annual general Meeting of ihe chariiy, though the irustees have powers to co-opt appointees i¥'hen they
deem necessary. One-third of trustees mubt retire at each annual gFeneral meeting. thuu¥h a retirinb t￿Stee may be reappointed.
