Achlevements and perlomHnce
There have been a number of signfficanl achievements and developments over the year to end of
March 2024
The Open Dr
The Community open space although predominaiety used for our fry)dbank projecL has also ￿en
opened as a communjty drop in centre following ongoing support grants from Volunteer Cornwall and
the NHS joint project to provide a Warnith bank, during the past 12 months. While this has not
produced any 'sales' as such the space has been a bkssing to people struggling with being able to
heat their own homes and instead have been able to come lo a wam and wethming space. rest, chat
and have help regarding issues they may have where our team have been able to S￿npOSt those
attending lo other agencies that rnay be able to offer further help and rf needed. The grant that
we obtained, was to be used to help towards the staffing costs and ub"lities of keeping this community
drop in space available during that period and light refreshmenls were available to anyone attending on
a donations based system. Our f¢)odbank project has conb.nued to use the spxe to distriLNJte fty)d to
those in need every Monday. Wednesday and Friday.
Coffee Lounge
This outreach uses space provided to us by the LKJht and Life Church based at Walef-ma-Trout
Industrial estsle in our town. Offering a lar9e space where sccial distancin9 was easy to accomplish
and helping to provide a simple yel good quality range ol luht refreshments this has grown and
become a safe haven for many individuals who would like to get out, but in a safe way. This project has
continued to grow and build pace and is very much appreciated by all who come aking. People who
are lonely, young families and young people alike have and are regularty attending and feel part of the
community. Further help and signposkn.ng is made avaiLable if needed and has helped many in need.
Helston & Lizard food bank
The Helston and the Lrzard For*Jbank has continued to meet the need in the kxal area and we have
seen the nurnber of those using the se￿1¢e during the year al 2444 people fed 1838 of whom we
children). The foodbank continues to be extremety well supported by local churches and Christian
oryanisations, and many local people. Mustard Seed continues lo reach out lo the wder community
and proV￿e a safe haven for people who are vulnerable and in need, a5 individuals ￿11 into the Open
Door lo collect their food boxes. During the past year the need has continued lo provide a delivery
syslern for su¢h a widespwd rural especially who cannot use publt transport or have no other
means lo ¢ollect the food. The delNery system has continued lo be an extra expenditure with the use
of the vehicle in fijelhyear and learl associated costs and stsffing costs and with the need being
so prominent did result in the inevitable replacement of our van just before Christmas 2023 at the tune
of £6000. The Open D¢)or historicalty has been the main colWKJn point for the foodbank recipients
and continues ak)ng wrth the Friday ouuet in Mullion Methodist Chapel to be this vital link in combatsng
food povety in our local area.
Mustard Seed Training
Throughout the year much of what we have focused on is continuing to help prevent ￿￿la1 exclusion
and loneliness. The training krtchen on the first floor of the Open Door premises has also provided a
conducive environment for those we have managed lo support our students preparing the food for both
the Coffee Lounge and aso a daily special meal for Students. Volunteers and staff members as

through al their own pace_ Each student is shown how to complete a task by working alongside a
member of our team and then assessed using an observation checkhst as and when they feel ready.
Christrnas Hampers
Another PToject that has been operating now for the last 10 years and has grown signific8nlty is our
Christrnas Hampers for faMil￿S and individuals who woukj othemise not be able lo have a meal on
Christrnas day and during that tr.me of year. 126 Hampers feeding 504 people were organised and
delivered by a team of over 1CQ volunteers during the week before Christmas day wrth all deliveries
taking place on Christmas Eve. This covered a very large area of over 125 square miles and all
individuals and families were referred lo us by professional agencies working wlhin our community.
