The trustees present their rèport and the financial statements for the year ended 31st March 2024. The
trustees who are also directors of The Workin8ton Herita8e Group Limited for the purposes of law and who

Structure. go¥ernance and management
Governing document
The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 1st March 21)05. The companv
was established under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and power5 01 the
charitable company and is governed under it5 Articles of Association. In the event ol the company bein8
wound up, members ale required to contribute an amount not ex¢eedin8 £1
Recruitment andoppointment oJtrusrees
Under the requirements of the Memorandum and Artitles of Associatlon. Irustees are elected at the Annual
General meetin6 or by invitation from the Board of Dirertors of Workington Heritage Group Limited. Trustees
retire by rotation and may, if willin8 to act, be reappointed.
The board members are l Mercia Haughan, John Cook, Gail In81is, Tom Ryan, Ann Warelng and Eleanor Bates.

Rlsk Monogement
The Trustees have reviewed all risks to which the chafity is exposed and have taken step5 to mitl8ate these
risks where appropriate. Iniernal control risks are minimised by the implementation of procedures for
authorisation of all transactions and projects. Procedures afe in place to ensure compliance with health and
safety of staff. volunteers and visitors.

Our charity's object5 as set out in the companws Memorandum and Articles of Association are to ensure the
advancement of education and the public benefit. in particulaf through the mzintenante of historical artefacts.
management of museums and organi5ation of events and publication relevènt to the lotal historical and soclal
development. We have referred to guidance contained in the Charity Commission's 8eneral 8uidance on publi¢
benefit when reviewing our aims and objectives.
Moin octivities undertaken
The charity has continued to work closely with officers of Allerdale Borough Council to ensure the continual
successful management of the Helena Thompson Museum. the building and contents of which were left to the
people of Workington in the will of Helena Thompson.
Volunteers
The trustees wish to thank the volunteers who in the turrent year supported Workington Heritage Group
Limited by donating time amounting to 10.cth hours free of charge to the companv.

The Museurn returntd to more norrnal operations fO1￿l￿g the slow lake up during the 202212023 period but
few of our re8Utar user5 for meetln8s have not retumed and there has also been a 5i¥nifi£3ni down turn in
weddings which is one of our main source5 01 Income. As a consequence, Tr6cia has been actively pursuing
atternatlve events to help supplement the £30X annual grant vthich we ￿(eive Irom Cumberland Councll and
which has not been *ncreased in the lasi 12 years. The calé continues to open 3 day5 In the week and has
become very popular with local resident5 and user 8roups t*tho are now makin8 re8uiar visit5. The hard work
by Trfjcia and the team ol volunteers has s*niftcantty contrtbuted towards a posltive finoncial outcomè to the
year.
The NILt5eum remains a very popular venue ILV I￿al user groups, sth0015 •nd ¥lsi¢of5 to ihe area which all8ns
wlth the Wish￿ of Helena Thompgon albeit at •ffDrdable prlces.
The lack ol bulldln85 maintenance over the prwous years was hi8hll8hied to A8C in 2022 whlch resulted In
detailed suf¥ey which must have addressed the silnrficant ijamp issue5 In both ends of ihe educatSon gallery
and the rotting wlndow frames ￿(. Curnbedand Countil have now taken over the ownership of the buildin8
and are statin8 that they unnot art on afty works untll their new budgets have been agreed.
The Museum staff and volunieers ha¥e tontinued io keep the internal trthsekeep4￿ of the buildln& and
gardens. In Impeccable condition which is often remarked on tsy ￿5•tOrs.
Durlne the year we rec•lved the Workin8ton Commode t•thlch orlOn•lly ume Irom Worklngton Hall and Is an
Imponant part ol the Town s and th• Hall's history. It is now part of ihe collection owned by Cumberland
Councll. We a150 rffe￿ word from Sothtbys that they wouhj be re￿rnINg the Luck to US.

The net incomin8 resources for the year amounted to £ 4790.CX) The balance on the vnrestricted reserves at
31st Marth 2024 is £108179 and the restricted reserves are £ 231824

It is the policy of the tnjstees to hold in reserve a minimum of 12 months working capital which is lo be found
In the Number 2 account at the Workington branch of HSBC.
Prlnciplefunding sources
The charity receives an annual grant from Allerdale Borou8h Council towards the cost of managing the Helena
Thompson M￿seuM. Extra fundin8 Is obtaSned through grants, sale of 8oods, hjnd ralsln8 and donations.

The trustees (who are also directors of The Workington Herita8e Group Limited for the purpose of company
lawl are responsible for preparin8 the Trustees Annual Report and the ftnancial statement5 in accordance with
applicable law and Unitèd Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statèments for each financial year which give a true
and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and applications
of resource5, including the income and expenditure of the charitable company for that period. In preparSng
