Chair’s Annual Report for the Year ending 30[th] September 2025 to Building Better Futures International Annual General Meeting Held on Thursday, 16[th] October, 2025
This Report is to the seventeenth Annual General Meeting following upon our registration as a charity by the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Our original Trust Deed was signed and submitted on 17[th] November 2008 and a letter from the Charity Commission dated 25[th] November 2008 confirmed our registration as a charity in England and Wales as of that date. We were assigned the Charity number 1126907. We are therefore duty bound to keep the Commissioners updated on any change to our details on the Central Register and to comply with all other requirements of Charity Law. On 30[th] September, 2025, the trustees under the Trust Deed were Simon Bell, Philip Brown, Jim Burgess, Laurie Green, Gillian Hopkins and John Wilde. Maureen McPherson served as Secretary to the charity.
Andrew Crighton resigned as a trustee during the year. We thank him for his service to the charity both as a trustee for many years and also as Secretary to the charity. We are pleased that Andrew has agreed to continue to support the charity as a volunteer.
During the year ended 30[th] September, 2025, the charity applied to the Charity Commission to change its status from a trust to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. On 30[th] September, 2025, that application was approved by the Charity Commission and from that date the charity will operate under its new Constitution as a CIO. The Registered Charity Number of the CIO is 1215180. The trustees of the original charity have agreed to become trustees of the CIO and are joined by Alison Stringall who has agreed to become a trustee of the CIO. The trustees are arranging for the assets of the original charity to be transferred to the CIO. In making this application we have received pro bono legal assistance from the law firm of Morgan, Lewis and Bokius for which we are very grateful.
The Trust Deed for the Charity stated that the objects of our charity are “1. the relief of financial hardship, either generally or individually, of neglected poor people living, in particular but not exclusively, in the State of Tamil Nadu, South India, and in such other parts of the world as the trustees may decide, primarily by providing or paying for items, services or facilities and by aiding small businesses and other activities to create sustainable incomes.2. The advancement of the education of the public, in particular persons living in the State of Tamil Nadu South India and in such other parts of the world as the trustees may decide. 3. The relief of sickness, the protection and preservation of health, in particular but not exclusively of persons living in the State of Tamil Nadu, South India, and in such other parts of the world as the trustees may decide.” The objects of the Constitution of the CIO are identical to those under the Trust Deed.
All expenditure from our accounts has been in accordance with the aims of our charity. All meetings during the year ended 30[th] September, 2025 have been carried out in accordance with the regulations and procedures agreed in our Trust Deed, as above.
Activities during the year ended 30[th] September 2025 have included the following. The trustees have met on three occasions during the last twelve months with minutes of the proceedings being
kept in the minute book. One meeting was conducted remotely via Zoom and two meetings were held in person.
We are grateful to all our officers and other trustees for their care and hard work. At our Annual General Meeting held on 4[th] December, 2025, Mrs Maureen McPherson was elected Secretary, Mr John Wilde was elected Treasurer and Mr Philip Brown was elected as Chair. The trustees have received regular and full reports of our financial situation and transactions. We have applied for and received Gift Aid tax rebates where applicable.
We seek to keep all our donors fully informed of our activities by means of our website at www.bbfintl.org.uk and by continuing email and postal communication, including our occasional Newsletter.

We have continued to maintain close communications with ISARD, our partner NGO in Tamil Nadu. During the past year trustees Andrew Crighton and Gill Hopkins visited projects in Tamil Nadu.
We expect strict ethical standards to be always maintained by our partner projects in India and note that they undertake regular safeguarding training, using UK online training resources. We receive continuing reports from all our funded projects in India and are pleased to see that our donations assist in the transformation of many poor rural villages and groups.
This year has seen the Coconut Plantation operated by our partner NGO continue to increase its production and also use the land to raise goats for sale, thereby providing additional income for its activities. Our partner NGO has used donations from us to replace equipment used in tailoring training programmes in addition to regular maintenance and further development of programmes continuing from former years. This year we were able to expand our education programmes by starting two additional evening tuition centres for children from the charcoal burners community. We are pleased to report that more than 110 women received tailoring training and more than 250 primary school children received educational support through evening tuition classes. We are delighted that some of the former pupils who attended our classes have now started university courses. During this period, the tailoring co-operative formed by women trained at one of our centres continued to expand and now exclusively produces very high-level products for Japanese enterprises This co-operative has enabled the women to achieve a high degree of economic security whilst also avoiding sexual harassment from some of the agents of the smaller garment factories. Our partner NGO continued to provide sanitary product support to more than 100 women and girls as well as small rope making, milk cow and coir programs. Our partner NGO has recently started to produce honey at the Coconut Plantation, the income from which will help support its other activities.

We have fully conformed to Government Data Protection regulations and have published our Privacy Policy and a Legitimate Interest Statement. Personal data information is securely protected. We are currently undertaking a review of all of our data protection documentation to ensure it meets best practice standards and conforms with our obligations as a CIO.
Our work continues to expand with emphasis on financially self-sustaining projects and such educational and building programmes which underpin this employment-creating process. For our ongoing work we rely increasingly on the regularity of generous donations often made by Standing Order.
We continue to remain true to the distinctiveness of the work of our charity as follows:

We have good local access and knowledge of all the projects we fund.

We support financially self-sustaining projects and programmes.

When possible, we personally visit and monitor the projects, ensuring transparency.

All of the work of the charity is performed freely by our trustees and volunteers; trustees claim no expenses and no one is employed in the UK by our charity.

We encourage self-help, by funding training programmes for deprived women and tuition support for very poor children, thus enabling them to build better futures - and all this in one of the poorest parts of our world
In this seventeenth year of our existence as a charity, our total giving to date is nearly £650,000. More than 3,000 women and children have been given the opportunity to radically change their life prospects. We are very pleased that so many important programmes continue to expand and look forward to the year 2025-26 greatly encouraged and with much gratitude to all our donors.

CHARITY COMMISSION FOR ENGLAND AND WALES Independent examiner's report on the accounts Section A Independent Examiner's Report Report to the trusteesl members of Building Better Futures International On accounts for the year ended 30th September 2025 Charity no (if any) 1126907 Set out on pages 1to3 I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity ("the Trust") for the year ended 3010912025 As the charity trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the Responsibilities and accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act"). basis of report I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have examiner's statement come to my attention (other than that disclosed below ') in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect,: the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act; or the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair, view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
