**Southern Lurcher Lifeline Charity No. 1126665 Trustees' Report For The Year Ended 31 July 2020**

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 July 2020. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015).

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## **Objectives and aims**

The Charity previously operated as Southern Lurcher Rescue which was a small registered charity re-homing Lurchers given up from home environment or handed into the Rescue. All dogs were fostered in homes and fully assessed. All treatments, i.e. worming, neutering and vaccinations/microchipping were carried out before re-homing. We did not re-home to anyone who works full-time and only re-homed within 200 miles of Harlow, Essex. All prospective adopters were home checked under our strict criteria.

Since May 2018 the charity has operated as Southern Lurcher Lifeline which is a small voluntary organisation operating nationally, supporting sighthounds through sponsorship. We currently have 6 hounds that we support for medical needs and are open to grant applications from vets and owners who have insured their beloved hounds, but have found the medical needs have surpassed the insurance limit. We fundraise to support this cause.

## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE**

Details of the achievements and performance of the charity are shown in the Chairperson's Report and Administrator's Report which form part of these financial statements.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

Our income for the financial year was £59,843 and our expenditure £20,587 leaving an increase in funds of £39,257 over the year. Our net assets at the end of the year are £108,940 which do not include a Gift Aid tax refund due for the year from HMRC.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**

## **Governing document**

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes an unincorporated charity. Constitution adopted August 2008. Southern Lurcher Lifeline is a Charitable Trust.

## **Recruitment and appointment of new trustees**

Trustees are appointed or re-appointed annually at the Annual General Meeting.

## **Organisational structure**

All Trustees and volunteers give their time freely and receive no remuneration. Volunteers previously carried out fostering or transport of animals, and home checking of potential homes. Any volunteers were first home checked before they were allowed to help the charity in these ways. Following changes to its objectives, the charity now requires less input from volunteers.

## **Chairperson’s Report for the year ending 31 July 2020**

This financial year started very sadly with the death in September 2019 of our founder, Jenny Symmons, from cancer. Her illness during the previous year put a hold on most of our fundraising activities, though we were of course able to continue to support our Lifetime Sponsor dogs and to award grants.

In March 2020 Southern Lurcher Lifeline along with the rest of the world was faced with COVID-19, with lockdowns and a further cessation of fundraising events.

We were extremely fortunate to be in receipt of a large bequest in 2020 and this, together with the efforts of our volunteers and fundraisers in previous years, meant that we still finished the year in a healthy financial position.

We supported our Sponsor dogs to a total of £2943.00 during the year.

Grants and donations were made to a total of £12551.00.

With the lockdowns and travel restrictions it was not possible to hold an AGM this year; not all our officials and supporters had access to the technology necessary for ‘virtual’ meetings.

There were a number of personnel changes amongst Trustees and Committee members during the year, with retirements due to ill-health and relocation. We also had to change our accountants twice and this regrettably resulted in delays to our reporting to the Charity Commission.

We would like to thank all our supporters, Trustee and Committee members past and present for their loyalty to Southern Lurcher Lifeline during this extremely difficult year. We look forward to continuing our Mission to help those hounds who need us in the future.

Julie Stringer

Chair of Trustees
