Most aspects of church life have continued this year as normal.
Worship
We have five services a month – three on a Sunday morning and two Shoppers’ services on a Thursday morning. The Sunday morning ones usually have a congregation of 30 -35 people. While the Shoppers’ service has fewer, it attracts people from across South Trafford Methodist Church and even people from other denominations. On the fourth service each month, we ‘explore’ other churches in the circuit and it would be fair to say that our congregation is excellent at doing that!
Many of our members have started attending New Song on the first Sunday evening of the month, where we tend to learn more modern songs than the ones found in Singing the Faith. For any who haven’t attended New Song, you really should as it is very uplifting and a great act of worship to share with a much wider audience and led by some very skilled musicians.
Learning and Caring
Timperley lacks its own structure for providing Bible Study or prayer groups and relies on the circuit to provide course on our premises. Is this something we can put right by organising our own regular Bible Study?
Service
We have six regular events that provide our congregation and the wider local community with an opportunity to meet up. Firstly, there is Coffee Corner, where people can find a decent cup of coffee and a place to meet new and old friends on a Wednesday and Friday morning. This has been running for the past twenty-five years but is getting harder to staff. Sadly, we lose people, due to illness, but struggle to attract new helpers. There is also Saturday morning coffee with less posh coffee, but which also provides refreshments for the orchestra that practices on our premises. Secondly, there is a Book Club that meets roughly monthly and can include a wider church family. There is the Friendship Group, which meets monthly on a Tuesday afternoon, Knit and Natter, which meets every Wednesday afternoon and finally, Musical Memories, which also meets weekly, but on a Thursday afternoon. All three of these groups are well attended by a wider audience, but they include our own people too.
Evangelism/Outreach
For the past thirty years, there has been a Holiday Club every summer at the church. This used to be attended by over one hundred children until other churches started to run their own and so more recently, there have been more like 60 – 70? This does not include the young people who have outgrown attending Holiday Club, as a child, and continue attending as a helper through their teens and beyond. These young people have their own afternoon programme of activities – thanks to Rachel and Jackie D.
We also hold a Messy Church every half term, from October until Easter. These are always well attended – some more so than others – and almost all who attend have little, if anything, to do with the church normally. We have tried half term in the summer, but we found families tend to want to do more outdoor activities, at this point in the year, so we abandoned the idea.
Manchester Marathon – For the past seventeen years, the Manchester Marathon has passed through Timperley village on an April Sunday morning, giving us no chance of holding a Sunday service, but giving us
a huge chance to use our location to embrace and fully immerse ourselves in the event. Every year, we have been joined by the Rock Choir, which is always a great attraction and very much appreciated by the runners. They use our premises as a base for them to meet, get refreshments and from which to sing. Members of our congregation contribute towards the cost of the goodie bags we give out to the children in the village, which provides them with a drink, a healthy snack, some activities and – most importantly – information about all the children’s activities on offer in the whole Trafford Circuit. Members of the church are also fantastic in turning up to set the grounds and premises up, to serve coffee, give out the goodie bags and clear everything away afterwards!
Altrincham Festival – a similar opportunity, but without the Rock Choir. We could do goodie bags, but up to now, we haven’t. It would be a good opportunity to advertise the Holiday Clubs and any other summer holiday activities. What we do usually is embrace the theme of the BB/GB float, which is The Wizard of Oz this year. We encourage people who are helping out to dress up accordingly and we hand out relevant snacks/cakes.
We understand that there is currently an attempt to resurrect the Timperley Village Fair in September, where we used to run a tent with activities for children, which enabled us to engage with the parents and again give out information about children’s activities.
Timperley Redevelopment
Early in the year, we selected Ellis Williams as our architects for the redevelopment of our site. Up to that point we had been consulting with a wide range of interested parties to make ourselves as well-informed as possible before embarking on such a challenging process. These have included local estate agents, local councillors, Trafford planning, TMCP and Helen ‘Llandudno’ Norman. We also went on a visit to the Methodist Church in Clitheroe to hear their experience of a redevelopment, which was also very helpful. We have made progress in developing plans with Ellis Williams and anticipate the submission of our plans as a pre-planning application in the coming year.

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention (other than that disclosed below*):

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act;
