The governing documents of the Methodist Church are the Deed of Union (1932) and Methodist Church Act (1976).
Methodist Church Act 1976 states
The purposes of the Methodist Church are and shall be Purposes deemed to have been since the date of union the advancement of —
(a) the Christian faith in accordance with the doctrinal standards and the discipline of the Methodist Church;
(b) any charitable purpose for the time being of any Connexional, district, circuit, local or other organisation of the Methodist Church;
(c) any charitable purpose for the time being of any society or institution being a society or institution subsidiary or ancillary to the Methodist Church;
(d) any purpose for the time being of any charity being a charity subsidiary or ancillary to the Methodist Church.

Our vision is to be an inclusive, justice seeking, welcoming communities who cares for all in an environment where all feel they belong. We aim to share the love of Jesus Christ by responding to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the people in our communities.
Our mission is to respond to our calling as Christians to live the gospel by word and deed and to introduce people to Jesus Christ, helping them grow to be more like him, and then to reproduce the process in others.

From the Minister
Welcome to our Annual Report which I hope you will find informative and stimulating. This will be the final report as Timperley Methodist Church.
First of all, a word of thanks to all those who have been involved in preparing this report but also to all who have supported the church in whatever way during the last year. The start of the connexional year 2023/2024 gives an opportunity to look around us for fresh vision as we approached a new year with a renewed energy for growth.
Plans are underway with a reconstituted building development group – a new entity “South Trafford Methodist Church” and a new circuity identity “Trafford Methodist Circuit.” We have formerly merged with Altrincham, Bowdon Vale and The vine Methodist Churches to create one church on 4 sites – South Trafford Methodist Church. Working together in the gospel.
The challenge for the Church in the year ahead is to continue our development plans for our new build. As the church at the heart of the village our mission will be focused on this community focus and engagement.
It was good to be able to recognize and affirm the ministry of our Pastoral Visitors at the annual recognition service in January and the Leadership team meetings; and in addition, getting to know some of you a little better through pastoral visits and conversations.
Thank you to all of you who contribute time, energy, gifts and talents to the life and work of Timperley Methodist Church, it is these many contributions that make it the vibrant church that it is.
We have an exciting time ahead as we continue to be the heartbeat of our community.
I am reminded of the prayer attributed to Oscar Romero, which I offer to you today for reflection.
A FUTURE NOT OUR OWN
It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view.
The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts; it is even beyond our vision.
We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God's work. Nothing we do is complete, which is another way of saying that the Kingdom always lies beyond us. No statement says all that could be said.
No prayer fully expresses our faith.
No confession brings perfection.
No pastoral visit brings wholeness.
No programme accomplishes the Church's mission.
No set of goals and objectives includes everything. That is what we are about.
We plant a seed that will one day grow.
We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces effects far beyond our capabilities.

We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.
This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.
It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord's grace to enter and do the rest.
We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders, and ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own.
My prayer for the future of us is that we are enabled to do something and we do it well, that it provides an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest. Amen

Steward’s Report
Throughout the year our drive and emphasis on being at the heart of the village continues to drive us forward in mission and community engagement.
Our community engagement remains at the core of our mission and outreach. The Manchester Marathon and Altrincham Festival allowing the church to be open, gift bags produced and wigs to be worn.
Our main successes of the past year are shown below:
Establishing the redevelopment group and engaging architects.
Continued engagement with the community in how we might best serve our neighbours Musical Memories and Friendship Clubs providing space for friendship and togetherness Maintaining our buildings with all due care to safeguarding and health and safety whilst recognizing its life span under for future development.
Community activities – the Manchester Marathon, Altrincham Festival
Our committed work with young people – Girls Brigade, Guides, Brownies, Holiday Club, toddlers, Tiny Praise and Messy church
Our “angel bombing at Christmas” – 800 angels and our church light up – being light into the world. Our developing relationship with Trafford Choices and the Orchestra.
Uplifting and thought provoking Advent and Lent studies written and led by Rev Jackie, Rachel F and Jackie D. Joining our sister churches for New Song Café and Looking Deeper

We are thankful to all who enable our outreach, mission and activities.
Timperley Redevelopment Group
In the last year much work has been undertaken to create a new redevelopment group to take forward the exciting plans for the site.
Selling a portion of the site to enable us to build a new, environmentally friendly and sustainable church to serve the church for the future.
The following actions have been taken:
Meeting with experts from methodism and the community to create meaningful conversations and develop our vision and plans.
Stakeholder engagement – users and the public
Both Trafford Choices and Foodbank have been consulted re their needs recognizing the churches overarching needs and responsibilities.
Feedback from the public - t hrough Timperley Facebook page that we are planning to redevelop the site and asked for feedback, most of which was very helpful and positive. During Altrincham Festival, the public on the pavement for their thoughts. Again, the feedback was positive and helpful. We need to do more though.
Grant Funding and Fundraising are a key aspect of our growth plan. We have a small grants team and a fundraising group has been established – quizzes, lunches etc all being arranged.
Visits to other churches
Many members of the group have visited other churches that have been through a similar process, in the hope of learning from their successes and their mistakes. So far, there have been visits to the Life Centre, St Ninian’s, Bramhall and Clitheroe with more to come.
Architects
We approached four different architects for quotes to apply for outline planning permission on both the land we intend to sell and the new build/redevelopment. Their quotes came in very differing formats. Ellis Williams has been mandated to take this work forward working with Neil Adshead.
We hope plans can be submitted in 2025 to allow for the development to move ahead swiftly.
Worshipping Life
It has been another year of developing our worshipping life alongside our sister churches.
Our worship is enhanced by the many local preachers and our members who assist with local arrangements and we are grateful for their calling and generosity of time.

Our worship has had many highlights over the past year but a reminder of some of them with peoples comments where available:
The Circuit Carols by was considered to be the best for a long time and so well attended.
The Christingle service went very well and some people attended who don't normally come to church.
The Pastoral Visitors rededication brought a feeling of togetherness.
The Ash Wednesday service led by Rev Jackie – a new experience to some and well attended. Our remembrance service with time outside and in a full church and many uniformed organisations. Our fortnightly shoppers service continues to be a sacred space in the busyness of our weeks – ably led by Rev Jackie, Rachel F, Kevin J and David O
Our monthly explore services allowing us to visit and worship alongside others. Our online worship allowing others to view services on youtube
We continue to join with our Methodist family for special services.
Pastoral
The Pastoral work of the church continues under Rev Jackie’s leadership, with two Pastoral Visitor meetings during the year.
The work undertaken by the Pastoral Visitors is given recognition each year at a service in January and highlights the importance and value of this work carried out within our church family.
The Pastoral Visitors’ meetings are used to bring feedback regarding the wellbeing of our church family and provide an opportunity to voice any concerns, or highlight items of good news or celebration. Jackie is most happy to visit people and in addition, to take Holy Communion out to someone if requested.
We have a team of six Pastoral Visitors who keep in touch with those on their list either through regular visits or phone calls or conversations in church. The Pastoral Visitors also deliver information through the year.
During 23 -24 sadly some of members have journeyed to glory and we are thankful of their care and love towards others. It is painful to lose church members yet we hold to our hope in Jesus and our togetherness in Christ.

Mid Week Activities
Advent and Lent Studies
Popular sessions on Monday/Wednesday evenings led by Rev Jackie and in her absence Rachel and Jackie D. A total of 24 people attending as we journey together in faith and growth.
Coffee Mornings
This group continues to meet on through the week and Saturday – a time of fellowship with decent coffee.
Musical Memories
A weekly gathering of music and togetherness for all who not only enjoy a sing but in a safe environment reminisce of the past. Recognized as a dementia friendly event all are welcome and we enjoy so much our time together. Refreshments and laughter plentiful. With sadness the passing of Peter Orpet leaves a gaping hole – we miss his creativity and fun.

Knitting Group
Fellowship and togetherness are a key aim of our group, This year hundreds of items have been made and produced for charity and also our local community.
Our big challenge was given by Rev Jackie to knit angels for our community – over 800 angels were knot and flew into our community bringing peace and prayer.

Monday Toddlers and Tiny Praise
Our weekly gathering on Monday morning continues to attract parents and small children who come along of play, friendship and some food.
Once a month tiny Praise enables parents and children to stay for a themed act of worship targetted to children for the younger age.
We are thankful to the helpers who support this work. More help is needed in setting this activity up and being present please.

Messy Church
Our messy church session take place on one Monday in the school holidays. Attended by hundreds of children and parents this remains one of our busier activities.
Our facilities lends itself to this number of people – with gathering spaces for activities, prayer and song and food.
Holiday Club
Another highlight of the year where it seems shaving cream makes a special visit. Held in the summer holidays over 70 children attended ably led by the team and The crew. The crew being a group of young teenagers learning the skills of leadership and teamwork. All safely recruited with safeguarding training all leaders are ie equipped to respond to the needs before them. A varied support team is around to help with registration, group work and refreshment. Overall over 30 volunteers enabling this activity led by Jackie Davies and Rachel Foster.
