St Nicholas WDG Finance Report for 2025 (Reg. Charity: 1125836)
1. Overview
| 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Income | £50,663.01 | £38,189.57 | £41,039.38 |
| Expenditure | £45,156.00 | £39,994.09 | £42,727.09 |
| Balance | £5,507.01 | -£1,804.52 | -£1,417.71 |
The overall finances for the year were significantly enhanced by an appeal in the autumn for new toilets at the school in Uganda. FML school was visited by inspectors in August and were informed they needed a new toilet black or the school would be closed. Fortunately, we were able to raise the money that they needed (£8,000); in fact through the appeal we raised much more.
The majority of our expenditure (93%) is sent to FML School in Uganda. We kept the bi-monthly payment to FML as £5,000 (except the December payment) in order for the expenditure to remain close to the income. We know that this is insufficient for the running of the school since the continuing war in Ukraine keeps food prices in Uganda very high. We continue to look for ways to raise funds and remain active in our fund raising.
2. Detail of income
Standing orders: £13,599.35 (2024: £13,803.20)
Income from standing orders was similar to last year last year. The good news is that although we lost three regular donors we gained four new ones.
Trust Funds
We continue to apply for money from trust funds with successful bids from the Hatfield Trust (£2,500) and the Souter Trust (£2,520)
Donations: £23,605.65 including £3,333.98 through JustGiving
There was a significant increase in donations from friends and family and parishioners due to our emergency appeal in the autumn. Appeals at St Nicholas and HolyCross churches raised a further £2,323.96 with a number a parishioners donating through JustGiving. Special mention to Rory Hickey in Australia who raised almost £3,000 for the school in Uganda as part of his school project. Catholic Peoples Weeks gave £902 from their events.
Events: £539 + £437
Other than our direct appeal in the autumn we held a thank you coffee morning after weekend masses in December. We raised a further £539. St Nicholas Primary School raised £437 for FML at their Christmas/Nativity events.
3. Detail of expenditure
Projects
The donations to the three projects were similar to last year, Albania and Romania each received £1,500 and Uganda £5000 every two months except December when we sent extra funding. We also sent money to FML to pay the medical insurance and £8,000 for building a new toilet block.
Shipping
We decided not to send a shipping this year so that we could concentrate on raising funds for the new toilet block.
4. Lloyds Bank: Charity Account
Lloyds bank are now charging for dealing with cheques and cash. Charges for November and December are £2.17 to be taken from the account in January (£1.75 for the cash and £0.42 for a cheque)
5. 2026
The overall balance in the account is just under £20,000, once again significantly better than was predicted at the beginning of 2025 and will help support financial decisions through 2026.
