Trustees report 31 March 2023
The trustees present their report with the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts and followed applicable accounting standards.
Trustees
The trustees who served the charity during the year were as follows:
Mrs C W Fawcett Mr E G D McCarrison BVMS MRCVS Dr E F Crowther
Objectives and activities
The charity’s principal objective during the year was to relieve the suffering and distress of cats which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to the welfare of cats in general.
Achievements and performance
Yet again it was another very busy year for the Charity.
Our local, national and international advertising campaigns were increased, and these have proved to be a huge success – with many thousands more cat lovers and veterinary staff finding out about a wide range of feline welfare guidance from numerous highly regarded international experts.
Our mailing list, only referred to on our website, continues to grow at an amazing rate; and we are able to ascertain from the number of emails which we receive that our newsletters (particularly those providing seasonal guidance) are extremely popular with cat owners/carers and also vets.
In one such newsletter we gave our own views on what we would like to expect of our vets when our feline friends require “End of Life” release. We included an anonymous poll for our readers to say whether or not they agreed with us. 97% of the replies which arrived did agree, and we received many emails on this one subject alone. As a result, we are including details of this in the “Vets” section of our website.
We have also been continuing to add more pages to our popular website as cat lovers bring us more subjects to ask veterinary experts to write about.
Our commitment to, and passion for, our feline companions and for helping their owners/carers to understand more about their charges, continues unabated. Indeed, so much so that we have extended our lease on our offices in Derbyshire.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the board of Trustees on the preparation of the financial statements of Feline Friends (Derbyshire)
31 March 2023
Independent Examiner’s report to the trustees
This report is on the accounts of Feline Friends (Derbyshire) (the Trust) for the year ended 31 March 2023.
Responsibilities and basis of the report
The charity trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
Examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act
-
To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act; and
-
To state whether particular matters come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Trust and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a true and fair view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
which could have given me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements both to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act and to prepare accounts which accord with those records and comply with the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 have not been met; or
-
to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts.
