## **Trustees report Year ended 31 March 2021**
The trustees present their report with the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2021. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts and followed applicable accounting standards.

## **Objectives and activities**
The charity’s principal objective during the year was to relieve the suffering and distress of cats which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to the welfare of cats in general.
## **Achievements and performance**
Whilst there is little doubt that the affects of the Covid-19 pandemic have proved somewhat restricting over the 12 months since our last report in March 2020, we are pleased to advise that our efforts to further educate cat lovers have continued unabated – and been very well received.
Dr Margie Scherk (Canada) penned a really excellent article for our website – on the subject of Pancreatitis. We announced this to all those on our mailing list and also in one national and one local magazine. The number and length of views on the new page were both exceptional.
In October we sent out a mailing entitled ‘Your Cat’s Christmas’, written by one of our Trustees – Eric McCarrison. The mailing, which highlighted the many different dangers to our feline companions over the festive season, was extremely well received. So much so that Cats Protection asked our permission to use it, and it was also published as editorial in the CatWorld Magazine.
We have taken advantage of the lockdown by making some significant changes to our back-up procedures during the year. We have appointed Dey & Co as our new accountants, and we are already delighted with the firm’s input.
Our bankers are now the Yorkshire Bank (soon to be Virgin Money), and we hope that a more personal approach will result. Only time will tell!!
Another new page was added to our website, this time it was on the important subject of feline ‘Nail Care’.
We have also been assisting other feline organisations with their surveys.

As can be seen above, the affects of the pandemic provided us with some useful ‘thinking time’, but did not overtly hinder us in meeting our objectives.
## **Structure, Governance and Management**
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes an unincorporated charity.

## **Independent Examiner’s report to the trustees**
This report is on the accounts of Feline Friends (Derbyshire) (the Trust) for the year ended 31 March 2021.
## **Responsibilities and basis of the report**
The charity trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- Examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act
- To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act; and
- To state whether particular matters come to my attention.
## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Trust and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a true and fair view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
which could have given me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements both to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act and to prepare accounts which accord with those records and comply with the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 have not been met; or
to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts.

## **1. Accounting policies**
## **Basis of preparation**
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis.
## **Income**
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has received the funds.
## **Expenditure**
Expenditure is accounted for on a payment basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a commitment.
## **Tangible assets**
Tangible assets are initially recorded at cost, and are subsequently stated at cost less any impairment losses.
## **Taxation**
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the Trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
## 2. Trustees’ remuneration and benefits
There were no trustees’ remuneration or other benefits for the year ended 31 March 2021 nor for the year ended 31 March 2020.
## Trustees’ expenses
The charity purchases a trustee indemnity insurance policy at an annual cost of £711.

## **3. Employee numbers**
The average number of persons employed by the trust during the year amounted to 2 (2020: 2).
No employee received emoluments in excess of £60,000.
