Thetrusteespresenttheirreportwiththefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyear ended
26August2024.ThetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordancewith the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

SummaryoftheobjectsofthecharitysetoutinitsgoverningdocumentToadvancehealthforthe public
benefitbypromotingandprotectingthephysicalandmentalhealthofsufferersofphotosensitive skin
diseasesandrelatedconditionsintheUnitedKingdom,sufferersofotherdermatologicaldiseaseswhich are
treatedwithphototherapyand in particular(butwithoutlimitation)by providingorassistingin the provision
of researchgrants, facilitiesand equipmentnotnormallyprovidedby thestatutoryauthoritiesat Guy;'s and
St Thomas' NHS Foundation trust.
To advance education and training for the public benefit in the field of Photodermatology

thissectionthestatutorydeclarationthattrusteeshavehadregardtotheguidanceissuedbythe Charity

Promotingand/orcarryingoutresearchinthesubspecialityofPhotodermatology,includingresearch into
photosensitive skin disorders,carried out by the Photodermatology Unit, St John's Institute of Dermatology
Providinggrantsforand/orassistingintheclinicalcareofpatientsunderthecareoftheUnitinways not
normally provided by the statutory authorities at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
Providinggrantsfor and/orprovidingspecialistequipmentto the Unit not normallyprovidedby the statutory
authorities at Guy's and St St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
Providing and/or assisting with the training of staff working in the Unit
 Awarding fellowships and/or studentships to enhance experience in the Unit
Promotingand/orsupportingotherprojectsand causeswhichpromotethe developmentof the  subspeciality
of Photodermatology in the UK
Presentingresultsofresearchinthesubspecialityofphotodermatologytoconferences,meetings and
workshops for the purposes of training and education within this field

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

Althoughwehaveanetprofitthisyear,thisisanartefactoftheyearboundary:the Photodermatology
Course runs once every
twoyears,andraninSeptember2024----theCoursefeesincomehadmostlycomeinduringthe year
2023-24, and the expenses were largely paid out during the next year.
It wasa goodyearin termsof theteamhostingand organisingconferences,and presentingresearchdata at
conferences.
TheS.E.EnglandPhototherapynetworkhashadmostofitsfunctionstakenoverbythe national
PhototherapyNetworkwhich is what we alwaysintended.The Networkwas intendedto be the first step to  a
nationalonesupportedbytheBritishAssociationofDermatologistswhichiswhathashappened.Thus the
part-timenursewhoadministeredthenetworkhasnowleft,reducingourexpenses.Theonlyfunction we
haveretainedforthenetworkisthewebsitewhichhasusefuldocumentsforphototherapynurses so
maintaining that is the only expense left of the network.
Aswellastheusualconferences,weranaonedayEuropeanXPSocietySymposiuminLondonattended by
XP scientists and clinicians from Europe and further afield and it was a great success.
As a result of all this,  there was a net increase in our resources of £53237.22 in the year 2018-19.
OveralltheCharityisroughlyinbalance,thoughnowslightlyincreasingitsresourcesoverthistwo year
financial 'cycle' because of the part-time nurse's salary no longer being paid.
ThemajorsourceofincomethisyearasusualwasfromthePhotodermatologyCourse£59767.25 as
explainedabove.Becauseof financialstressin the NHS, we are no longerreceivingthe moneypaid by private
patientsforworkdonefortheminthePhotodermatologyUnit.Thatmoneyisnowbeingtakenby the
Hospital and not shared with the Trust.
 The Charity continues to effectively achieve its charitable objectives.
 The Trustees effectively represent the various stakeholders.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Principal funding sources

Principal sources of funds: Course fees and Sponsorship of the Photodermatology Course we run.
TheexpenditurehassupportedthekeyobjectivesoftheCharitybyhelpingtoprovidesupportfor patients
withPhotodermatologicaldiseasesforthingsthatarenotcoveredbytheNHS.Wearealsosupporting the
objective of supporting research as detailed above that is ongoing.

Investment policy and objectives

OurinvestmentpolicyistokeepourrelativelysmallreservesinNatwestbankaccountwhichissafe and
secure in times of financial instability

Reserves policy

OurreservesareneververylargesincethescaleofouroperationandoftheTrustis small.Whatwehave is
held in a Current Plus account at Natwest.

Trust) for the year ended 26 August 2024.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charitytrusteesof the Trust you are responsiblefor the preparationof the accountsin accordance with
the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I reportin respectofmyexaminationoftheTrust'saccountscarriedoutunderSection145oftheActand in
carryingoutmyexaminationI havefollowedall applicableDirectionsgivenby the CharityCommission under
Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordance
withthe FinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland(FRS102) (effective
1 January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the
UKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCharitiesAct2011.Thefinancialstatementshavebeen prepared
under the historical cost convention.

Income

All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesonce the charityhas entitlementto the
funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructive obligation
committingthecharitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswill be
requiredinsettlementandtheamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditure is
accountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall cost
relatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadingsthey have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Grantsofferedsubjecttoconditionswhichhavenotbeenmetattheyearenddatearenotedas a
commitment but not accrued as expenditure.

Tangible fixed assets

Depreciationisprovidedatthefollowingannualratesinordertowriteoffeachassetover its
estimated useful life.
Equipment- 25% on reducing balance

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestrictedfundscanbeusedinaccordancewiththecharitableobjectivesatthediscretionof the
trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthe charity.
